They referenced this ad in "Kentucky Fried Movie", in the segment entitled "Catholic High School Girls in Trouble". This kid is on top of some woman having mad, passionate sex with her, and he looks at the woman and realizes he's mistaken her for her teenage daughter. She says "People often mistake me for my daughter."
How much lacquer must she have on her hair to be diving in the pool and still have it look like that? I think the chemicals must have soaked into their brains; she comments, "We're often confused!", and it's obvious they were. It probably took years of therapy to help.
The Burkes ARE alive and well! This is Adam Burke, the little kid by the pool. My mom, Mrs. Burke, and my sister Dale are now often mistaken to be sisters!

All cereals are a farce, they have no nutritional value and they will make you fat. Kellogg invented cornflakes as a measure for boys to stop self abuse/masturbation! Have a good wank for breakfast, that's what i say!
It's a long-running mistake they never bothered to correct. There was a Palmolive commercial involving "mistaken identity" similar to the "I thought you were Dale!" Grape Nuts commercial, and the writers just forgot which slogan went with which commercial. Doesn't matter. It's still funny. :]
Actually if you read the MST3K Episode Guide, Mike's episode entries are fraught with inaccuracies. Funny, funny guy, but he doesn't know shinola from that other stuff.
It seems about half of the MST episodes reference this commercial. I had to look it up finally to see what the commercial was. The palmolive thing makes sense, though, since about all of the "dale" mst references are about hands.
Dennis in this video is my Uncle. Not even kidding.

Dale was an instructional aide at my grade school back in 1972.
I was in the seventh grade. She was a sweetheart.

Thanks for the information. I tried Grape Nuts as a child, I liked them, I havent eaten them in years. They look hard to chew.

@Sheri451 You have to pour in WAY more milk than you think you'll need - otherwise it all gets soaked up. Otherwise, its like eating gravel.

Ah, the commercial often referenced by MST3K!

I asked Mike Nelson about that line when I met him in person. But I think he said it was an old Palmolive commercial.

I'm eating grape nuts right now... they're fucking disgusting. This commecial is so stupid it's funny.
JitterBob 3 years ago
It's just a shame that Grape Nuts are utterly disgusting, I guess.
They stay crunchy in milk, yes, but they also stay foul tasting in milk.

add sugar, lots and lots of delicious sugar.

Or keep the nutritional value high by adding stevia.
They're too crunchy for my taste--I let them sog for a while before eating them. With some sweetener, they're pretty good.
