I see most of you don't understand.

1. Yes we need protection from terrorists who are in this country communicating with their leaders to plan attacks.

2. Yes, the telecom companies need immunity from blame for doing this surveillance.

3. UNLIKE the original bill, which allowed the Bush administration to bypass the FISA courts, ALL eavesdropping needs to be done by a court-approved warrant.

4. The Attorney General will prosecute any case, past present or future that was done illegally.

Guess it must be hard for you to realize that what the telecommunications company did was illegal. For reference, please read the 4th amendment concerning searchs, propable cause, etc... The bill of rights are God given unaliable rights, meaning there is no reason they can be suspended. (exception being "probable cause") These companies knowing broke the law, and now that they are caught they are scrambling to get immunity put into the fisa bill.

At this point I'm convinced it doesn't matter. The McCain administration won't be fundamentally different from the Obama Administration or the Clinton Administration.
