if you listen to the song, ull realize that the second and third chorus riffs..(something like that) are syncopated different to the chorus

I think using the open notes is easier, but many people swear by using fingered note virtually all the way through the riff. I like the way the open notes ring on the acoustic--they just seem to fit the riff better for me. Plus, yes, they're a bit easier to play. :)
