  • 2nd best song of the Beatles is the 1st on their 1st album, the best is the last on their last album, somehow the circle closes

  • @immortelle3 Get Back for the best?

  • who would dislike this

  • Paul is so nice :D

  • What a true musician is, playing that riff on bass and singing at the same time; not so easy my friends. In fact, @ 5:10 he kind of flubs his bass part making the transition; never hit a wrong note, though.

  • @jsmyers24151 I can sing it while playing bass, it wasn't so hard at all!

  • @jsmyers24151 HOW DO THEY DO THAT!!! they are sooo amazing

  • The one-two-three-four intro is from Take-9 Edit piece

  • thanks

  • 8:19 is hilarious.

  • i like George's solos in these takes.

  • look at the beatles there still young!

  • It's really interesting that Take 1 is actually the album version, and the ULTIMATE version we all know. But then they go on to do like 12 or 13 other takes...

    very interesting.

  • @LikeWiseLikeYou They did this so that once done they can choose the best take.

  • @DJWantonDestruction I'm aware of this. It's just interesting that they went through another...wow... 14 other takes? damn. What's also interesting is how Paul's infamous "1, 2, 3, 4" (Probably my all time favorite count-in) was originally take 9's count-in. Their engineer, Norman Smith, just snipped it off and stuck at the beginning of take 1. GREAT, GREAT DECISION!!

  • the best! my fev song

  • this is fooking great

  • Cool!:)*****

  • who are these guys? some pommy poofters that play techno or oonst oonst music.

  • @nerdflanders8710 Do some research before you embarrass yourself. Unless of course you're just being deliberately ignorant in which case grow up.

  • @SonicCrakpot nah i like my way better

  • ah excellent, en stereo faut dire que sa déchire !!!!

  • Is take 1 the version we all know?

  • @DailyBrusher Ya it is. The final was mixed from take 1.

  • paul looks like hes gonna get sick

  • Why is Paul holding his own throat and the others r grabbing each others.is there some sort of story there or summit?

  • @brambleberger

because he's dead sinse Please Please Me

  • I love this song. It's one of the best.

  • I LOVE THEM.REALLY!

  • WOOT I LOVE THESE GUYS =D

  • one two three FAAAHH!!!!! =D

  • I really really wish Apple would release all of these treasures once and for all. Instead they have them guarded like Fort Knox. We've already lost two Beatles so what's the use of holding onto them, open the vaults and release them.

  • @westfield90

you just have to search for it, i have every survinving take from every song they did at the please please me sessions.

about 50 takes of strawberry fields and so on, just search for it.

  • Oh hello, a couple of different solos? But I rather like them. ^____^

Loving the rawness of the other takes. Really great sound.

  • This did not OVERNITE!!!

  • HELL YEA TEY TE BEATLES!!!!!!

  • That's a crazy bass line Paul lays down on this on.

It's moving out the entire time.

  • haha i love this! john always mixed up the lyrics, and when he messed up live, you could always look at their faces for a laugh... they were all like D: hahahaha :) thanks for uploadin'!

  • john paul george and gringo

  • @nerdflanders8710 who the hell is gringo?

  • @beansterman1998 he's the guy thats tapping your mom. after me of course.

  • @beansterman1998 you need a fist in the chops . a gringo is the mexican word for foreigner.

  • Someone says "Seventeen take one" at the open of this, because, the working title of this song was "Seventeen" and this is take One.

That being said, I love the raw energy here. Thanks for posting

  • @BartShore john lennon could really wail in the early days.

rock and roll music was one.

  • Stereo really brings this song to life, I know many people prefer the mono mix, but to me that just sounds flat and lifeless compared to this. A rock n roll classic, hard to believe this was recorded 47 years ago.

  • i like how it says 17 at the begging. im pretty sure 17 was the orginal title. correct me if im wrong

  • just what they would've sounded like at the cavern club,, awesome noise..

  • who did the solo, george or john?

  • @starprincess66 - Sounds like John.

  • @perfuzz really? u can tell? john is reeeeealy good, but george is like better, right?

  • @perfuzz i also meant who did the guitar solo?

  • George ;)

  • @starprincess66 George

  • ok. he's so goooood at it!!

  • @starprincess66 paul...this song is write him

  • sadly it was really hard to find someone had take 10...i never heard that one...but my friend said it was fantastic than other takes

  • Fucking Amazing.

  • I knew it! Take 1 was the used one, but the counting ''One, Two, Three, FAH!'' is from Take 9, and the solo...i don't remember which take was. 12 takes. Amazing.

  • Fucking Brilliant.

  • Hard to believe that this was a band recording for their first album what is now a rock n roll standard.

  • @jim25shwp - Yeah and they were in their early twenties.

  • In mono the music is recorded to the left side of the track and it is played through both speakers. So its the same thing in both speakers. In stereo the vocals and music is usualy recorded on different sides of the track meaning when you turn the balance on your stereo to the left you will get just vocals and when turned to the left you will get the instruments. At least thats the way it is on the mono and stereo recordings of Meet the Beatles! on lp that I have.

  • i don't understand..what's the difference between stereo and mono? they both sound similar.

  • The best little rock n roll song ever written. It's got everything. This is how you do it!!! The end.

  • @Musicman11389 I HAVE BEEN SAYING THAT FOR 30 YEARS-- I bough this single when I was in kindergarten--i beleive it is the B side of I want to hold your hand--it is hands down the most well balanced rock and roll song ever written--thanks for your post

  • Hahahah the previous post was actually written by my mother (musicmom11389), logged in as me. Don't get me wrong - I really like this song as well!

  • Superb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • tight they are locked in listen to that bass and drums... out of sight. no click track back then.... wow!

  • thing is ... there was NO click track back then and they are lock in. that rythum section is a lock. McCartnee's and the rings man are a locked in. tight brother. I mean tight.

  • Paul's "whooops!" in the middle make me smile. =)

  • One of their best songs, love it so much, thanks for posting

  • this album was all the material they had at the time. They did record the tracks the same day and by the end of it lennon had lost his voice but they had one final take of money! as usual he nailed it but lennon being the perfectionist he was hated that recording till the day he died! the beatles are not just for christmas! there for life :-)

  • Wasn't Twist and Shout the last song recorded? I looked it up on Wikipedia and it says two takes were recorded in 15 minutes, and Take 1 was used.

  • it was! sorry mate, i was a little bit drunk when i wrote it lol and you are correct! he did lose his voice and twist and shout was the final song! i stand corrected :-)

  • John's voice broke down during take 2 so they only had one full take and it was used. Luckily like most Beatles recordings it was excellant.

  • @ywba yup. the second take was like.. miserably impossible for john. I've tried to find it but the only person that has it is george martin.

  • @ywba because twist and shout were very difficult to sing said john. He said that in the end the song almost kill him to sing

  • @ywba

that's right. On take 2 John's voice had gone almost completly.

  • Garethfeb16: As you know, McCartney had the lead, Lennon & Harrison backed up. So "(l)ennon lost his voice?"

  • Waldo: on I saw her standing there... it's only Paul and John. George does not have any vocals. .. but on the other point you're correct... John screamed Twist and Shout and he could only get out a couple takes before it would rip his vocal chords for the rest of the day.

  • fantastic!

  • I have not heard the stereo version of this song since ages. This is really great. Twin-track stereo in its full glory!!!

  • it sounds like take 1 was the issued one, just missing the count in. it mustve been overdubbed

  • This is a fine clip. Your audio is in stereo, and is culled from the master twin-track tape. Actually, I have this audio set, but it's in mono. So this is wonderful.

  • George seems to struggle with the solo?

  • George was pratically learning how to make guitar solos in the studio ;) =D

    Vive les Beatles!

  • that's a great solo for that time, I don't see much wrong with it, and it flows very well so it didn't feel like much of a struggle.

  • There were multiple solos for this song, if you listen to a live version they offer differ. The original live song ran for about 15 minutes and was punctuated by around three or four solos.

  • Interesting that the engineer calls it "Seventeen" at the beginning. No official title at this point I guess.

  • I believe that the original title of it was 'Seventeen' but they changed it for the track listing on the album cover. That's my understanding of it anyhow....

  • yes, it's true, the original title was Seventeen it was an official title, but later was changed by I Saw Her Standing There.

  • seventeen was the official title at the time, but before they released it they changed the title.

  • yeah. i saw her standing there is a more fitting title. its repeated more often, while 17 is only mentioned once.

  • john's "henry crun" impersonation at 8:20 is as close to peter sellers' as anything i've heard

  • yeah that is funny how he made them do 7 more, what a perfectionist, and a good thing, because if he wasnt, they probably wouldn't have made so big :)

  • the more amazing thing is that 10 of the 14 songs of the album (all takes of that 10) we're recorded THE SAME DAY! in 10 HOURS!, it was amazing.

  • This sounds so much better in stereo, as do the Please Please Me album tracks. Thanks for posting!

  • The first take sounds like the issued version

  • Yes, the issued version is basically Take 1, although the 1-2-3-4 count at the start of the issued version is from the beginning of Take 9.

  • guauu!! really,really great audio!

  • It's amazing that after such a killer take 1, George Martin put them through another 7 takes! Must have been something he heard that he didn't like in take 1, but I'll be damned if I know what it was!

  • it might have been paul, many times paul put them through take after take like after the master version we all know of obla-di-obla-da he still wanted to put them through another take of the song he still wasnt happy with it.

  • you're probably right...they were perfectionists even then!

  • During take 1 the guitar solo was recorded on track 1 of the Twin-Track tape (heard on the left) with all the other instruments; The solo should have been recorded on track 2 (heard on the right) so that when they remixed the song into mono they could adjust how loud it was or add more echo etc. Also John's guitar is on track 2 (usualy just for vocals or solos) throughout take 1. They got these things correct on all the other takes - take 1 must have been a mix-up in the control room.

  • It seems like he wasn't happy with the ending which in the final ends on an up note rather then down as they did on the first versions. Also on the first 3 versions they didn't have any of the screaming and shouting between chorus and verse on the final version. Final product we all know...

  • Their first take became the master take...

  • Stereo?! It's so weird not hearing this song in mono . . . pretty awesome, if you ask me.

  • Wow! What a really clean sound compared to their Cavern rehearsal. The Fabulous Four, even here, show themselves to be heads and tails above everyone else of their era. And I am really pleasantly surprised to see how their sound improved over their Cavern rehearsal of the same. It's faster, cleaner and clearer. Better all the way around. Two thumbs up - WAY, WAY UP!

  • Really great audio on this one!!!
