  • This is the best cartoon ever created. Go to the myspace page i created to see who you can write to get it released on DVD. Universal owns the rights to "Amazing Stories". It appeared on Season 2 and right now only Season 1 has been released.

  • 3:57 shes santan

  • This is the best show. I loved this as a kid. They really should put it on DVD.

  • Brad Bird, btw, is the genius who brought us Pixar's great animated film, "The Incredibles". (He even did the voice of Edna Mode in that one!)

This is sheer genius; possibly the funniest animated short of the last fifty years.

  • mom looks like medusa from the rescuers

  • YOU CAN SIGN THE ONLINE PETITION TO GET THE WHOLE SERIES PUT TO DVD here therealbenjimadden (half way down page) it is a myspace page

it WAS on LASER DISC in the late 90's but no-one thought to put it DVD yet...

there is something uncanny, about how good this series was (only 1 season), and I guess that was due to Tim Burton...all the funy parts are funny, and that damn dog is Soooo cute...

  • wow thats realy funny LOL :)

  • OMFG! HOLY HELL YES! I have wanted to see this again for SO LONG! I remember watching it the first time with my new boyfriend and his 4 lesbian friends. Laughed till I about passed out. *sigh* Two weeks later, when he DUMPED ME and I was bawling my eyes out like a big ol' 21-year-old gay sissy...the lesbians popped in this video and even through tears, it made me laugh. I am sorry to say, I no longer see Tim...damn him....he hanged himself and I never found out why. True story. *sigh*

  • @BelfastBailey wow thats horrible i'm so sorry to hear that dear

  • damn that dude must be chuckie's twin

  • damn i aint seen this in years

  • Was at a store many yrs ago and found a stuff version of the dog from the cartoon so I bought it---we own an Italian Greyhound and looks and acts like this dog--2nd day we had her I called her PinHead and it has been her name since.

  • I can't believe I just found this - this made me cough up a lung laughing when it was new and I was impressed that Spielberg was involved. I loved the comic realism. I didn't know who Brad Bird was at the time, but I do now! He is one of the Pixar geniuses and is responsible for one of my favorite films - The Incredibles!!!

  • Brad Bird is a genius, this just proves it.

  • The kid named Billy looks like chucky not from the rugrats but from that scary movie when the guy goes in the good guy doll yeah I see them very alike.

  • The kid named Billy looks like chucky not from the rugrats but from that scary movie when the guy goes in the good guy doll yeah I see them very alike.

  • Damnit I can't find 13 other Family Dog episodes! (wtf i can't find it on itunes either) HELP!!!

  • I loved Amazing Stories. Tales From the Darkside predates this series, but Amazing Stories was funny rather than scary.

  • I love this show!!! I have spent so many hours trying to find out where i can get the whole season from but so far with no luck! Can anyone be of any help??? Thanks

  • @117Bec

You can get both Amazing Stories Seasons on NetFlix!

  • Reminded me of the good 'ol days of when I was growing up in Millington, Tennesse in the mid-1980's. My father, had recorded this pilot when it aired. I enjoyed watching the "Family Dog" tape over and over again. -Johnny Red

Thank you very much for sharing your "Family Dog" tape.

  • old school famly guy

  • my dad and i love this show so much...remember laughing our asses off at it back in the day.

  • Thank you for posting this!!!!

  • I remember seeing this short as a kid. It's been many years since I saw it but I never forgot the image of the dog peeing on the carpet, then getting punted out the door into the yard...which is where he wanted to be all along. I wouldn't want to be around that family either.

  • 1000 thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I see a little bit of Hogarth in the maih character.

  • fantastic remember

  • I remembered this being shown right before The Land Before Time with it's theatrical release back in the late 80s. Especially the part with the dog food slowly coming out of the can and when the dog spits it out in the slipper. I still remembered even though it was like 20 years ago.

  • same here. this is the first time i've seen it since then too. i'm 25 now, but i still remember it after all these years. now thats nostalgia.

  • 4:57 made me lol so much! XD

  • I loved this as a kid, but had no idea until now that Brad Bird directed it. Watching it now, it definitely has the feel of a Pixar movie. :)

  • @JanieJane96 Tim Burton was also a part of this, awesome stuff :)

  • thank you SO MUCH! I think it was originally an episode of Amazing Stories, wasn't it? I recorded it that night, the videotape has since died from us watching it over and over again. Best sound: "t'plah" into the slipper at 4:24 *grin*

  • I remember seeing the promo of this as a kid. As a kid, it creeped me out, but in a way that made me curious to watch it. I didn't know the animation was by Tim Burton. That totally makes sense. Now that I watch it as an adult, I can clearly see that [metaphorical] flashing red neon sign above the Mom's head that says "I have PMDD!" Lol!

  • @Jenna424 I don't believe Burton was involved, but director of The Incredibles, Brad Bird wrote and directed it. It was one of his first, if not his first official role as director.

  • Actually if you watched the credits at the end of part 3 it says animation & design is by Tim Burton

  • Ah cool. Just saw that. So, it says Animation Design by, which usually means he designed the look and feel of the characters, I believe...which makes total sense as you said. Totally got his style, particularly the little brother. The actual animators which are shown after his credit are a who's who of animation though. Duncan Majorbanks, Mark Kausler, Chris Buck and Tony Fucile, who's now one of Pixars lead animators. Cool stuff.

  • It's created by Steven Spielberg!

    Love it since 1983!

    3:40 :o)))

  • That rotten boy needs to be getting a boot to the teeth.

  • LOL I love that. The dad farted and blamed it on the dog. I remember my ex-husband used to do that...except he blamed it on the baby. XD

  • This was my family's favoret ep. from the Family Dog... I was about 9 years old when it came out. LMAO!

  • I just LOVE the crazy little girl!!!!!!

  • i just want to say thank you very much. i remember this from back in the day. my sister and i watched this over and over and over. i missed it so much and i can't wait to show her this. maybe she might even give me a hug.

  • lol, omg.

  • this is awesome, thanks for posting.

Family and friends watched a tremendous amount.

  • Meant to add, I somehow was lucky enough to tape this when it first aired. I must have seen a commercial. Anyhow, it was watched so much the tape died.

  • This show was part of that really kick-ass TV series Amazing Stories from the mid-80s and again in the late 90s. I remember having this vid but I lost it!!! My family LOVED this one!!!

  • This was executive produced by Tim Burton!

  • the boy looks a lot like Chuckie from childs play. If I were the dog I would have ran away from that awful family

  • looks like? he is!

  • definite Brad Bird.

family relations, emotions, dynamics - even the character design all similar to Iron Giant, The Incredibles. awesome.

  • This is an all time classic. I love this show, brings back my childhood memorires!

  • Universal ?they dont care what fans want ... fans have been bugging them for years to release PHANTASM 2 and now after years of fans bugging them .they are going to release it on sept 15, 09..

  • This thing just SCREAMS "Tim Burton." LoL I remember watching this movie when I was a kid. It kind of creeped me out back then, and it still does a little today, but, it's a classic, I will have to admit. ::sigh:: Ah... memories from my childhood. LoL

  • Yah! I remember seeing this on Spielberg's Amazing Stories as a kid. We recorded it on VHS and watched it over and over... This was my favorite as a kid! Thanks for the post.

  • @benjoiner777 ME TOO! We also recorded it and watched it over and over.

  • This was originally an episode of Steven Spielburg (sp?)'s NBC anthology series, "Amazing Stories". I remember Annie Potts', as the mom voice, in this was very amusing (so, different then she sounded, at that time, on "Designing Women").
