The fact that we borrow 44 cents of every dollar we spend clearly tells us and our government that our credit rating is going to plummet. @megarational Although I'm by no means wealthy, I recognize that the executives of my company and most big companies out there are...and they are already cheap as it is...costs go up, they lower benefits quality and raise it's cost to keep the money in their pockets. The rich frequently have the ability to say "oh, it's going to cost me $X more because of taxes or whatever" and then pass it on to the little guy through lay offs, lower raises, cut bonuses(for us workers, not them). Etc.

They were created as factions grew between Hamilton and Jefferson—neither of which had anything to do with the creating or signing of the constitution. Checks and balances is what was supposed to prevent dictators. The 10th amendment stopped the federal government from "taking over" from state governments.

@salvadory The Taliban supported Al Queda who did attack us. Afghanistan was completely justified. At the time of the Iraq invasion, Russian, British, and American intelligence all pointed to Hussein having WMD. It turned out to be wrong but hindsight in 20/20. Iraq, at the time was justified. For defending obama, you must be one of the 45% of the country who pay no taxes yet used 95% of it's social services...no wonder you stick up for him. Leech.

The result of you downgrading the people will be that WE will have to pay more of all the things WE buy, not the Federal? Government, because they do not make the money they have, they take it from us. I will go to the point that a good part of the companies, CEO’s, and board members are the same elitist left that helped get President Obama elected.

Whether we all care about a program or not is not a reason to continue taxing us to pay for it. A chicken in every pot was once a popular campaign slogan. Everybody could get behind that, right! BUT, that is not the to job of government to take from one taxpayer to buy that pot bound chicken for another. The US budget is rife with "let's-do-this-to-get-reelected" programs. Programs that when once in place cannot be removed with raising the ire of some group: old, young ,veteran, poor illegal!

Do what the republicans plan on doing and buy heavily into the market when it gets shocked lower. The whole thing does sound like a deliberate attempt to manipulate the stock market, and knowing that, playing their game with them will prove quite profitable.

@WildPhoenix01 Gonna happen regardless. S&P has already said that raising the debt limit WILL NOT likely forestall the down grading of our credit rating. The fact that we borrow 44 cents of every dollar we spend clearly tells us and our government that our credit rating is going to plummet. You cannot just continue to pay the interest on your personal credit card and continue to use it. That is what our leaders continue to do. Well, the piper payment has come due.

Obama's vision for this country is simple. He wants the rich Wall Street types to keep their 50,000 sq ft homes, private jets and 300 ft yachts, he wants the number of poor people to grow so they are dependent on his universal healthcare plan and he wants to Middle Class to disappear because they are not dependent on him.

Small business employs 75% of the nations workforce. If Obama really wanted to soak the rich, he would raise taxes on those people making more than $10 million a year. @megarational Although I'm by no means wealthy, I recognize that the executives of my company and most big companies out there are...and they are already cheap as it is...costs go up, they lower benefits quality and raise it's cost to keep the money in their pockets. The rich frequently have the ability to say "oh, it's going to cost me $X more because of taxes or whatever" and then pass it on to the little guy through lay offs, lower raises, cut bonuses(for us workers, not them). Etc.

@moviebuff383 no. it won't help the debt. social security is paid for out of its own special tax (take a look at your pay stub), not the general federal income tax. in fact, a lot of federal government spending is /borrowed/ from the social security fund.

It sounds like it'd fix the debt, but that much money in our system would create a massive inflation. Printing money = inflation, Burning money = Recession, why printing money isn't illegal while burning is illegal, i don't know.

@TheIxtlan I know it sounds like a good idea, but understand that if you were to print money it only helps you, and hurts everyone else. For example, if i could illegally print millions of dollars and get away with it, then the value of money drops. Since money is now worth less, large savings that people had in their banks are worth much less; everyone hurts a little, but i'm a millionaire. That's how printing works. And on a large scale for our debt, the worth of our dollar would drop big time
