fenderstratguy - you are onto something. I'm going to move on and will watch The Last Waltz instead and then listen to a better version of this song. Houuuuullll!!!!
John Hammonds background is not that of the stereotypical bluesman. He wasnt born on the Mississippi delta and hes not a poor black sharecroppers son. Instead, he was born in New York City, the scion of a well-to-do family whose father, also named John Hammond, was a legendary talent scout and record producer. His uncle was Benny Goodman.
I can never put my finger on what I can't get into about GT. I've seen him live and he's very energetic and I love his blues roots. But I think it's the fact that he rarely leaves a quiet space in there and to me, the pauses say more than the notes sometimes.
Goddamn this boy can play the harmonica! This is the best version of this song that I have ever heard without a doubt! It just blew me away! I had never seen this version - & I give total props to the dude that put this video up! Just absolutely great! John Hammond together with George Thorogood just rocked the shit out of this song!
Wow!!!!!!!!! Great version!!! Absolutely fantastic version - they are in raw form here - John Hammond is just down right funky - What a terrific harmonica player!
Has anyone else out there Noticed that G.T did something radically different in his Equipment setup for ONLY this 1 show ? Listen to all his other videos/ CDs/ bootleg shows. NEVER EVER did his guitar sound this POWERFUL ! agressive, raw, Fuzzy ! He never duplicated this type of sound . there has to be some other Gutiar guys out there who noticed this ? its so easy to tell difference.
But even if you Listen to his Earlier concerts, His Guitar setup NEVER sounded anything like this !!! This was a 1 Nite only set up. Ive heard him in Concert either in Person and CD Tons of times and He never had this same Fuzzy 'grungy' Tone ! This to me, is clearly His Best sound. Its sad he only used this equipment 1 nite only ; (
i've seen both, and i'll give you that zz top and thorogood are probably the best live shows ever (along with the nuge), but no one alive blows zz top "out of the water"
Billy Gibbons of ZZ TOP is obviously a much more skilled guitarist. They both fused hard rock and blues together in one powerful tight package, but just in different formats. Both are fabulous and quite Unique
RIP Hank Carter on the sax
