  • Thanks! That was a great review :)

  • Nice wallpaper lol

  • looks like the vista default wallpaper with linux shopped into it.. miss windows? O.O

  • how big is the download

  • smaller than 800mb

  • Ya man! I love slow computers! I think I'll install Windows 7 on my commodore 64 to get the full effect!!!

  • that wont work sorry

  • ubuntu is free right?

also can you dl microsoft office on it

  • I know nothing about this, so let me ask, what happen to my current files and software if I decide to switch OS?

  • Try wubi it will not touch your windows instalation.

  • Download wubi. Its a free application that downloads the full version of ubuntu onto windows . It partitions your hard drive for you so there is no need to do it yourself. When you boot up you pc you are given the choice to boot into windows or ubuntu. Check it out, i just installed it yesterday and im using linux now.

  • depends on how you do it

  • FUCK MICRO$oft!!!

  • perfect

  • I so have to install this soon. I have it downloaded... just got to install sometime.

  • Linux is very cool!!!

  • Thanx for the Demo.

  • hey nice background, where i can find it?

  • Dude Ubuntu can run windows Its true

  • Nice Video Man!

  • MacGyver + Linux... BAM! NOW WHAT?!

  • u guys are weird...

    lets talk about SPORTS!

  • sport is boring

  • hahahaha

    not even man...

theres millions of sports out there....theres bound to be one that fits ur interest

    DO SPORTS

    (or work out)

  • i just joked :)

  • lol!

    nice

  • That's sounds a little jockish to me. But I have to say, I love me some skateboarding.

  • I love Esports xD

Also a sport (^;^) no just kidding i love fusball and basketball

  • very nice video. The best I've seen so far about Ubuntu. Most videos play music and don't explain anything. How do you like Ubuntu? I am thinking of putting it on my older computer.

  • Yeah right. Just because you use linux your 'superior'.

  • Besonix, you must be slightly impaired... Linux has VERY little in common with windows... you see, Linux is stable, Windows is not. I have both systems (Vista, and Ubuntu) on seperate machines. Vista is much better than previous versions, at least in my experience (have less errors) but Linux is much less power hungry and the interface is much more aesthetically pleasing. Also, security and reliability in ANY version of windows is training far behind Linux.

  • agreed

  • will Ubuntu Linux work with linkeys wireless adapter

  • did you download any desktop effects, or is that all preloaded.

  • In older versions of Ubuntu, you have to download it, but since Feisty Fawn its comes preloaded, and even works on the Live-CD.

  • abouth 4-5GB

  • what's Feysty Fawn?

also how many GB should i spare for a Linux partition?

    thx in advance

  • Feysty Fawn is a version of Ubuntu...

About the partition, Well you may do something like this:

Separe at least 5 GB on Ext3, recommended is 10 GB if you are going to install software and some stuff.

After this, make a Swap partition, you have to do it depending the RAM you have, if you have 512 mb, then make it of 1 GB, the double of the RAM on your pc.

Assing the / directory to the Ext3 partition you made, and let the Swap alone.

New to Linux?, try read forums about Ubuntu, too much help.

  • thx a lot!!

but yeah, i've been reading a lot about linux, and i already installed ubuntu hardy heron in dual boot with windows xp.

so far it seems to b a great OS =)

  • i deleted some USB worms using linux n___n

They can't run with linux =)

  • u freakin made me wanna use ubuntu

  • Ubuntu sucks my wlan isn't working

  • is this for window XP also?

  • Its linux dude...

  • lol fail, ima chargin my lazer with windows

  • I don't understand how to install aplications on linux. If I have the files from "wine" and I need to install it on the computer, what do I have to do to install it? Cuz it's a bit wired when you can't just open an exe file or something thats compile everything for you.

  • Wine is a Windows compatibility layer, you can install Windows applications with Wine installed.

To install stuff, just use the package manager or download a .deb file for Debian or a .rpm file for other distros.

  • UBUNTU = WINDOWS VISTA KILLA

  • hey men i am new in this program can you tell where i can lear more but in spanish version? i Know english but i am from peru so a prefer to read in spanish

  • does it override windows and delete all of your stuf?

  • No you can make partitions and a boot menu makes you choose between Windows and Linux.

I'm convinced with ubuntu because I can use .doc files with Openoffice, can play music, surf the web and use mail. For games I use console.

Ubuntu works fast, even after months and you don't got viruses or spyware. All the software is free so no freeware stuff.

"Software is like sex, it's better when it's free"

  • ubuntu rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • loooool hes watchin mac giver

  • Do you know the name of this wallpaper please? I like it!

  • wow i ordered ubuntu for free off the site and making the siwtch from vista ultimate to this, ubuntu looks Way better than vista and dosent make me want to drill holes in my mobo. im just pissed off i payed for vista

  • lol i got the .iso but i ordered it to just in case it didnt work..i got the iso to work and i just got my mail order one in the mail

  • You can do all That stuff And No crash? My new Windows xp computer freezes all the time! (it has 2gb of ram, and all the virus protection) So bad that I have to Reset the Computer. It does it with simple things like Making a video with pictures, or even using Window Media Player. If I run 2 applications like sony and Movie Maker it freezes. It seems with linux you can do all those multitasking things and no freezing right?

  • yes, i am running 3 games any no problems with 256mb ram.. i have problem run 1 game on XP..

  • VIVA EL OPEN SOURCE!

  • Nice movie! Makes me wanna use ubuntu :)

  • I gota question.How can i download ubuntu???

  • impresionante

  • where can I get this cool wallpaper?

  • i duel boot Xp and linux

  • ^.^ i love linux.. ubuntu user

  • Yes that makes 2 :)

  • linux = :)

  • HI can someone help me? I already install ubuntu on another computer, but I dont have any sound, it says that nothing is detected, ican still use my cd ports, but I belive that my usb port do not work now, and i dont have internet, i dunno why, do i need to install some drivers or something else?

  • google "ubuntu forums", no doubt there will be an answer to your problems there

  • ok, thanks mate

  • Could you provide your computer configuration?

Also Ubuntu version and kernel version (if possible)?

  • hey how do install wine, sorry if this isnt the right time or place

  • click "Apllications" then "Add/Remove" then in the search bar at the top[ type wine, when it appears check the tick box and click "Apply Changes"

  • Wow, I don't know what's up with the people below commenting on your video, mate! I guess it's true bad things happen to good people... or... bad comments to good videos? heh.

Thanks for taking the time to make and upload this. Truly it'll help to show/prove people that it is a _full-featured_ OS of it's own. I kind of laugh at the Microsoft product comparisons, but hey, gotta make in-roads somewhere, right? :)

    Thanks again.

  • hi guys i use vista ultimate, but this ubuntu

    is fantastic, very good!

i think that i will move for it

eu sou brasileiro & não desisto nunca.

  • eu nao sou brasileiro + tbm nao desisto nunca :D eu sou o q vcs chaman... "gringo" ;D saludos desde California :D

  • There is a great project for those who dont know about it named 'Wine', it allows you to run many windows applications on Linux.

You can even use it to run some versions of Photoshop and World of warcraft.

i think when Wine evolves more and is integrated with Ubuntu we will finally have a true alternative to windows (and a superior one for that matter) ;)

  • i know im finding about wine yesterday and ubuntu sucessfuly installed

  • AccursedSliver i have 3 words for you, your an idiot...

    Grow up ?

  • 1.I Think Thats About 5

2.Thx Fer Noticing i have fun that way

3.Why Should I Grow Up Being A Kid Is Much More Fun

    Grow Down?

  • It seems like that all it is is just eye candy... =\

Could someone tell me if programs like

    -photoshop

    -winamp

    -Game Maker(noobish ,i know)

    -etc.

do they work on linux ? And what about games(Like proper PC games that you buy on the market)?

  • Any windows programs will NOT work natively in linux, though they may have ports. Almost all windows apps have equivilant programs in linux.

  • Oh,ok ! Thanks for the answer !

  • linux is a copy of windows man thats true it sucks

  • linux is a copy of unix not windoze

  • y does it look like vista smart-ass?

  • Because Dumb Ass Linux Is Based Around The User And Is FULLY CUSTIMISABLE And The User Can Change It In Any Way They Want

  • u just a sad lowlife druggie who was raped by his dad

  • sorry i dont need ur live story!

  • @ arsithepspkid

Come On Even A Spaz Like U Could Have Thought Of A Better Comeback

  • here ill me cum in ur mouth little motherfucker,o wait i fucked ur mother so im a motherfucker i guess

  • No Ur Just A Bitch Slapped 11 Yr Ole Queer Kid With Teh Internets

  • linux and unix are the same it just diferen base code... get you facts right

  • Meh Almost Right Thx Fer Clering That Up Fer Me

  • whos the stupid ones here..........you doesn't even know the basic.....

  • stupid tard......

  • ut came out befor Vista... and pernanly i think that linux is better than any os you can get because of the fredom of choice... it run's anthing from an ip to a super computer ( even a 286 for crist sake and it still runs faster than windows / mac)

  • this is really cool but why should i pick this operating system over MAC except the fact that its free and u get free apps?

  • dual boot it w/ your mac. that way you get all the features imaginable

  • tripple boot ubuntu with osx and windows best of all worlds

  • No oneuse ubuntu for the PS3. It's a rubbish striped down version that doesn't work well at all.

  • open office takes less space its free and its better then microsoft office. trust me. i have microsoft 2007 and open office and open office is better.

  • I would have to say I enjoy Ubuntu. I installed Ubuntu because I want to get into programing and from what I understand Linux is a much better platform for it. I still use Windows XP because I have been using Windows since 95 ed. and know my way around it. I am having some problems with my Philips stereo USB connection on Ubuntu (not working in Firefox). I partitioned my drive to run both Ubuntu and Windows. Now if I could get my games to run then I would never use Windows lol.

  • Thanks a bunch for posting this Joseph. After ten years of using Windows versions 95, 98, and XP and becoming very frustrated with them, I took the plunge last September and installed Ubuntu V.7.10. I too am "Windows Free" as you state. Ubuntu-Linux is the best, and for the life of me I can't understand why the whole world is not with the Ubuntu "program". Just sign me, Linux lover....

  • Hey, although it doesn't catch that login screen, you could use GTKrecordMyDesktop for these types of videos.

  • its possible to have office with that?

  • You could use open office (which can also work with your microsoft office documents)

  • Nope. You can, however, run a good part of Win apps using Wine. Linux is not very good for gaming, but you can use wine or cedega to run them.

Or, you can run windows via virtualbox in linux, or just dual boot.

  • can you dual boot with vista and ubuntu?

  • ofcourse... why not... just as standalone both or you can run in from your favorite main OS with software like virtual box (freeware). It's pretty neat but still some errors are appearing.

  • yes. but i tried and it got rid of vista. but thats been a good thing. ditch windows. if not, just install a virtualbox, or get something called wubi (takes a while but worth it), and install ubuntu like that. it runs like an application, but you can use it from start-up

  • Try using Wubi, it takes care of the booting process for you and allows a full install of Unbuntu, just be careful that if your windows gets reinstalled you loose your Ubuntu as well.

  • can some of you do a little test for me? try to open, let's say, 5 youtube videos (in tabs) in your favorite browser in ubuntu. does it get slow? it slows my system down so much it made me switch to vista, right now i have 10+ videos opened + aero + dreamscene and everything runs smooth. i've tried a lot of linux distros even yoper, and still can't surf with more than few opened tabs no matter what browser or flash plugin i use. 3.5 ghz, 1gig ram it's a shame, i really liked ubuntu

  • isnt as bad as that for me. sure it gets a littl e slower with 5 vids open, but not considerably.

  • maybe its a firefox bug.....do you use IE on windows??? did u try Opera???

  • i have linux and windows in my computer... thats more fun!!!! xD

  • One of the videos that automatically tells mac users to stfu about how "cool" their computers are.

    Great video and OS.

  • What advantage would there be to installing it on a PS3? I assume it would be much better for playing video types, but would it still play games?

  • you cant install Linux on a game console. it would either no work or ruin your playstation.

  • What are you talking about?! EVERYONE knows you can install linux on PS3 and it doesn't ruin your console at all. Do some research.

  • You can install linux on almost everything even m$ xbox

  • u r d u m b.j b h c

  • can you play all games as on windows XP ??

  • To be honest, some games work, and some don't. It depends on how reliant they are on things like DirectX.

  • so i hear all this buzz about ubuntu... but im wondering if it would be right for someone like me who is completely NOT computer savvy in the least... is it easy enough to use?

  • ubuntu was made for ppl like u it is very easy to use and very very very fast! i love to use linux for webbrowsing and emailing and IMing

  • thanks for the quick response! im a little hesitant to change around my computer though (like i said, i'm not very knowledgable on the subject..) but i have vista and its very slow, so i might just give ubuntu a try.

  • ya u can run ubuntu as a live cd meaning u can try it with out haveing to install it note that it runs alot slower because its runing from your cd drive

  • you can dual boot and keep windows too.dual booting is when you have 2 operating systems installed in you PC.you will find how to dual boot from the internet or from some magazines

  • yeah ive heard about that... but is that completely safe for the computer? i only have one laptop that i depend on for everything and i'd be screwed if i messed it up...

  • well most times it is safe but backup your data for any case

  • it is safe only if you install windows first. otherwise it won't work cause windows installer doesn't like other OS's.And you should be very carefull with the options you choose when installing the second OS. The default is to overwrite everything. :) good luck.

  • Is it possible to install MSN on Linux and other software that Windows OS supports?

  • yes, the software is called Wine. But ubuntu has its own IM client which supports most IMs, its called Pidgin

  • It's a shame that Linux can't play games like Windows can, I would switch right now. You could have dual boot but... uuuh...

  • feel you

  • what are the system requirements for that? By system I mean the processor, graphics card, ect.

  • i am new to linux and i installed ubuntu yesterday with a dual boot to windows and when i enable desktop effects everything goes white....would anyone happen to know how this can be solved?

  • Those beryl effects only work with certain video cards, such as NVidia. I tried the same thing you did with PCLinuxOS and got the very same thing (I'm currently running Ubuntu, though).

  • do you know how to install an nvidia driver?

  • First of all, you'll need an NVidia video card. This is a hardware issue, not a software issue.

  • i know, i have an nvidia geforce 8600gt. i know i need a driver for it because i have to use my onboard chip. i dont know how to install a video card driver yet. could you tell me or do have a guide that could show me how?

  • Go into Synaptic, enter your password, click "Search", and type "nvidia geforce". Look through the descriptions of each result to see which one you need. That should do the trick.

  • Hey guys, what the the best way to capture screen video in Ubuntu?

  • See my videos about Basic Unix/Linux commands

  • i need

    sonar 7

    reason 4

    cubase 4

    wavelab 6

    pro tools 7

    m-audio drivers for my soundcard

ubuntu is gay he sounds like it too

  • Ubuntu looks good, but like you I also need to be able to run Music Recording software, which needs use of popular audio interfaces and their drivers.

If Linux can accomodate M-Audio, Presonus drivers and has music studio software ability, I'd for sure drop Windows in a heartbeat.

  • Great Job, very informative

  • i need

    Photoshop

    Fireworks MX

    Counter strike

    Archicad

    video editing software

    and Autocad 2008

  • how do i enable the desktop features im running linux right now :D

  • I still think LINUX and lack of software is MAJOR DRAWBACK. Is not like i haven't seen it myself. Software is sooooo limited, I know LINUX is steady etc.etc. that's for sure kick ss over Windows or OSX, but - world will choose it unless Windows and OSX is completly gone, otherwise no chance to dominate market.

You saying is free etc. don't you know everyboby use either torrent or have system with new computer.

  • That's a lame excuse. Virtually any commercial software (e.g., Word, Excel) is available as a free/open source alternative (e.g., OpenOffice). And, oftentimes, the open source alternative is much more feature-rich and stable; this is because of the inherent nature and vastly collaborative effort of the open-source community.

  • Linux is an excellent OS but the BIG BIG BIG BIG...and I do mean REALLY HUGE drawback is the fact the most of applications like MS Office and Photoshop and other software don't support Linux. Although there are so called "equivalent" replacements, no one in their right mind could compare the features and flexibility of Photoshop to GIMP. I have both installed on my Vista(God I hate this OS) but Photoshop is fast and complex while presenting a clear and simplified GUI.

  • It will only be so long until core platfrom software will be more available, alot of corporations use UNIX and Linux to write their programs, and believe me, wide market software like Photoshop, MS Office etc will be multi-platform.

  • As of yesterday, Wine supports Photoshop CS and CS2!

A great leap forward. I can now move fully to Gutsy and get rid of my dual boot.

  • Man I really really want to switch over to Unbuntu But I will miss the gaming, as thats really all that I do.

  • You're dumb

    It's Linux

It's a lot easier, it has Synaptic, and it lets normal people use it, it talks English not super-nerd

And it's cheaper and has a lot of software available, I love it

  • edit, my comment saying 'You're dumb'

Wasn't meant to say 'you're dumb' and it was aimed at redwavestudios

  • a lot software ? like what?.

Besides few poorly written by some students FREEWARE/GNU weak projects that should be count as experimental tools.

What about games? 3D, DirectX, Force-ware, SLI ---- the WORLD STANDARDS!.

YOu are either too old to learn new shit, or have squared head. Well yeah, Linux will fit your needs - which are - check email, open website and story ends in your terminal, big hackers lol

  • Sorry, not everyone uses their PC to play games.

  • redwave, uh, you just haven't looked deep enough into it

It has games, movie editing, audio editing, movie playing, CD playing/burning, printing, scanning, flash player, graphics software and more

And more software is being released on Linux, so it's gonna get better

  • Not to mention programming support.

  • I tried to install this on my g5 imac and i just cant believe im a mac fan boy but i just want to get rid of leopard is so fucking slow and i want this particular version but i dont know how to i did what the page says but that the bad point to linux nerds only i really want ubuntu feisty fawn but i cant...

  • can u tell me how i can install ubuntu, i'm confused bcuz i did install it and it didnt work, i think i done something wrong, can u guide me plz

  • riverriz

After installing it, did you take out the cd or leave it in? Message me if you want

But if not, after installing, before you restart take out the CD otherwise your computer will keep starting from the CD asking to set up

  • i installed it from the net, and the cd was provided in a text document, after i uzipped all the files, thats when i get confused on what to do, if i install it without the provided cd it asks for the cd but if install it with the provided cd, it doesnt give me the option to start using ubuntu.

  • if your not 16 or under id just stop trying to use linux, cuz you sucks.

  • ...

    Learn English.

    Or get firefox.

Just don't speak until you do one of those things.
