Can you hear the 'BUZZING" of those hot tex mex pups before they even start to play a chord?
If you do, you have good ears. You, at least, recognize the sound, because you own a guitar and an amp and you play it. SRV was, and is a magician yet to be compared to anyone with his grace and powerful music. I can play this shit for hours and not get tired of it.
This is by far the best blues rock song ever conceived and played by any human being!
This video should stand on any digital encyclopedia as the foremost example of how blues-rock should sound like, be played like and IS! Don;t tell me about Jimi or any 1 else, I've been a blues rock player for 30 years, own more USA made strats, teles, and all variations you think of I built myself and in all my years this song has all the elements to carry the banner of "kick ass blues rock for fuckingever"!
These may not be his most technical solos. But to me they say "Hi, my name is Stevie Ray Vaughan. I used to be in a really fucked up place. Now I'm back. Watch me." And that's more moving than anything else I've heard by him.
i saw srv several times in NYC on the pier and in NJ . this is so supercharged cuz srv is straight here !!!!!!! he sobered up then GOD took him , how ironic .LONG LIVE SRV !!!!!!!!!!!1
@themrbreezehd1 Stevie Ray always thought someone was better than him. That's why he was such a great player. And that was my opinion, not your or Stevie Ray's.
@SupercatsAcoustic agreed!!! why do the BEST have to meet a tragic end? EVERY last one of them.!!! stevie could move your soul with the best of them. Just my opinion.
@alkimst13 and I fully agree with you bro.. he flies over those strings.. he's the one that fully inspired me on the guitar.. there were many others but his playin'.. is just over the top !!
This post does have pretty punchy sound. Thanks! Unfortunately, in the transfer to VHS and also to DVD for commercial sale, the synchronization is off! (It also took the absurd companies about 10 years after he died to release it!) I'd taped this(VHS) from TV at the time of the original broadcast. That VHS sounds better than the commercial release. No reason for this sloppy production. Frequently on digital TV broadcasts the synchronization will be off, mouths moving out-of-phase with sound.
I never fully appreciated SRV until I saw him on Austin City Limits. When the man performed live, he just played his guts OUT!!! BTW: It made me very sad to post that comment using PAST tense. RIP Stevie.
The band is smokin' but Stevie Ray is on another (even higher) planet. Terrific stuff.I don't know which I love more - the first or second solo! Unbelievably good guitarist. And the vocals are just wonderful. Thanks for posting this so we can all enjoy.
Blues Box is a marketing gimmick and it had nothing to do with SRV's gear. Back in the days when this was recorded, Stevie mainly used several Fender combo amps, bridged together. Sometimes a Marshall combo amp, too. He also used a pair of Ibanez "Tube Screamer" overdrive units (TS808)... cascaded one after the other. When he played lead, he kicked both of them on. When he was just strumming, he kicked one of them off.
So I have no idea what the "Blues Box" is all about.
I will soon have the initials SRV tattooed on my arm. When I was 10 years old I saw the VH1 Legens about Stevie and it inspired me. I got my first electric guitar for that christmas after much begging and I am now 26 and have owned my Fender SRV Strat for 13 years and have never stopped playing. THANKYOU SRV!!!!!
His playing is so damn effortless...an extension of the man describes it perfectly. I thought what I did was "play guitar", everytime I see Steevie I realize I was also mistaken.
That guitar was just an extension of that man. This is just my own opinion but I truly believe he's the best of all time. Jimmy was innovating and awesome and I felt his music, but SRV just kept me in tune at all times. It was like he could take any kind of music and burn it up including Hendrix's own Voodoo Chile or Child, however it's spelled. The chord stacking and solos were amazing. He sounded full all the time.
I'm sure that stevie when play the guitar didn't had any notes in his mind...just feeling the music...the music that we hear, that's the feelings of stevie and his feelings we can hear now and a lot time after....R.I.P. Stevie...!

Hi! My name is John "Marty" Trautman, co-founder & member of a New York City doo-wop group known as "The Chevrons". While Stevie Ray will ALWAYS be the one & only Stevie Ray, let's not forget about "Double Trouble"!. On this particular song, I believe the drummer plays exceptionally well. I don't know why "fairmount1935" didn't post my previous comment, but I hope that he or she posts this one.
Hi! My name is John "Marty" Trautman, co-founder & member of a New York City doo-wop known as "The Chevrons". Stevie Ray is the "GREATEST MUSICIAN" that God ever created! I could watch him work that guitar 24/7! He is "Majestic"! Absolutely incredible! R.I.P. SRV
the whole wide greater soul of texas lies on solid amazing genius of steve ray vaughan and freddy king - god bless that land for give them to our greatful world!
I never thought of it untill you mentioned it, but you're right. Why isn't this guy in the rock and roll hall of fame? My father actually ran into him and talked to him a few times at a 711 when we lived in Austin,Texas back in '83.
WHY STEVIE IS NOT IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME IS THE QUESTION!!! THIS GREAT MAN SHOULD BE THERE. HE WAS ELIGIBLE IN 2008 AND KEEPS GETTING OVERLOOKED!! RIP STEVIE, HOPE ONE DAY YOU WILL BE INDUCTED!!
Everything was so good about SRV. I'm fortunate to have been a fan of his since I first heard Couldn't Stand the Weather, which was back in '84, if I remember correctly (for me). Got to see him twice.
He was a one man freight train aimed straight at your soul. Nobody powered the rails harder than SRV.
I'd say Rest in Peace...but if there's an afterlife, he's rattling someone's windows right now.
Great double hammer on at 1:41. Stevie uses nearly all of a guitar player's tools in this lead -- hammer ons, pull offs, string bends. All he's missing is tapping.
SRV's story of redemption is one of the all-time greats. It brings me great comfort knowing he left us after he got to a place where he was able to truly love both himself and his life. Learning to love yourself isn't easy, but thanks to SRV for showing so many of us how, through your music and also through your character. God bless.
Im only beginning to get into Stevie's music but i have to say that just watching his face when he plays fascinates me and makes me want to pick up my guitar!! Thanks so much for uploading this!!!
did he use a fuzz pedal for the solo?

R.I.P. SRV

God bless.

In terms of nailing down notes and rhythms with feeling, Stevie was the best guitar player at it.
