  • did he use a fuzz pedal for the solo?

  • 1:23 is the best shit ever. The SRV battle cry! Let Fuckin' Loose!

  • this is one of srv's best ever..rip bud..very missed

  • Can you hear the 'BUZZING" of those hot tex mex pups before they even start to play a chord?

If you do, you have good ears. You, at least, recognize the sound, because you own a guitar and an amp and you play it. SRV was, and is a magician yet to be compared to anyone with his grace and powerful music. I can play this shit for hours and not get tired of it.

  • @lapwiz haha yeah did notice it. All part of playing single coils.

  • If you can't play it, don't even think about criticizing it, like you know what's like to play it like so.

  • This is by far the best blues rock song ever conceived and played by any human being!

This video should stand on any digital encyclopedia as the foremost example of how blues-rock should sound like, be played like and IS! Don;t tell me about Jimi or any 1 else, I've been a blues rock player for 30 years, own more USA made strats, teles, and all variations you think of I built myself and in all my years this song has all the elements to carry the banner of "kick ass blues rock for fuckingever"!

  • LOVE AND MISS YOU STEVIE

  • Who"s the one??Can you say,Numb.

  • I don't know why i feel like shit.... after this !

  • Stevie could play a solo for 1 hour and i would still be asking for more..

  • always brings a smile to my face

  • Stevie=dios

  • Wished I could put my emotions and feeling in a solo like he does... Hes just the best.

  • SRV......peace.....

  • i saw srv several times in NYC on the pier and in NJ . this is so supercharged cuz srv is straight here !!!!!!! he sobered up then GOD took him , how ironic .LONG LIVE SRV !!!!!!!!!!!1

  • saw SRV several times

  • This upload might be among the best as the bass truly pops through a pair of Polks powered by an old Luxman.

  • LOVE YOU SRV!!! RIP>

  • MY GOD!!! AMAZING!!!!

  • Stevie all ways going to be in my top list of artist ever R.I.P , thanks for this gr8 share

  • amazing fuzz tone! is this regular fuzz face ?

  • @normalsigara at that concert he used an octavio. hendrix used that same kind of pedal so it sounds like fuzz face

  • @2001imsofly def sounds like octavia! but some people says cezar diaz built his fuzz face circut into the fuzz face pedal. so who knows!

  • at 1:23 hendrix is taking over his body, and thats the scream

  • @hungarianmazdadriver Even Hendrix can kiss SRV's ass! Stevie Ray was and is the greatest!

  • @Ismofani11

true, true! SRV will always be the best guitar player in the whole f.cking world!

  • @Ismofani11 WTF Dude, how can you say stupid shit like that?!?! Hendrix was Stevie Rays idol...Stevie would probably spit on you for saying that!

  • @themrbreezehd1 Stevie Ray always thought someone was better than him. That's why he was such a great player. And that was my opinion, not your or Stevie Ray's.

  • Stevie was a guitar god and pimp. Nobody can touch his skills and soul.

  • God he was so great. Legendary even..

  • Stevie always will be the best hands down.

  • where is he playing in this vid?

  • @thenameiswgoldk austin city limits

  • The one and only

  • he literally sounds 10 times better live.

  • TEXAS BLUES BABY!!

  • stevie is my god !!!

  • @SupercatsAcoustic agreed!!! why do the BEST have to meet a tragic end? EVERY last one of them.!!! stevie could move your soul with the best of them. Just my opinion.

  • @alkimst13 and I fully agree with you bro.. he flies over those strings.. he's the one that fully inspired me on the guitar.. there were many others but his playin'.. is just over the top !!

  • i see he had some fat strings on this show, it pays off cuz it slows him down somewhat and add super tone.

  • The best of the best!!!

  • This post does have pretty punchy sound. Thanks! Unfortunately, in the transfer to VHS and also to DVD for commercial sale, the synchronization is off! (It also took the absurd companies about 10 years after he died to release it!) I'd taped this(VHS) from TV at the time of the original broadcast. That VHS sounds better than the commercial release. No reason for this sloppy production. Frequently on digital TV broadcasts the synchronization will be off, mouths moving out-of-phase with sound.

  • I never fully appreciated SRV until I saw him on Austin City Limits. When the man performed live, he just played his guts OUT!!! BTW: It made me very sad to post that comment using PAST tense. RIP Stevie.

  • The band is smokin' but Stevie Ray is on another (even higher) planet. Terrific stuff.I don't know which I love more - the first or second solo! Unbelievably good guitarist. And the vocals are just wonderful. Thanks for posting this so we can all enjoy.

  • uhhhh....!!

  • love that shout 1:23 when he's starting solo :))

  • @geodati haaaa!!!!!!

  • a master...

  • Stevie was the best. I wish we could trade Justin Bieber in and get Stevie back.

  • @alkimst13 if thats the case, we only get stevie's fingernail

  • @gokil31189 true. we wouldn't get much trade in value from J B.

  • @alkimst13 u said it man!

  • i dont let my guitar watch this video, it would commit suicide...

  • The best guitarist to ever live!!

  • im not good at makin songs so how did he make this? its AWESOME!!

  • This is why Blues Box 1 is named after Stevie.. Tearin dat shit up

  • @FenderRobMan

Blues Box is a marketing gimmick and it had nothing to do with SRV's gear. Back in the days when this was recorded, Stevie mainly used several Fender combo amps, bridged together. Sometimes a Marshall combo amp, too. He also used a pair of Ibanez "Tube Screamer" overdrive units (TS808)... cascaded one after the other. When he played lead, he kicked both of them on. When he was just strumming, he kicked one of them off.

So I have no idea what the "Blues Box" is all about.

  • There's love all around me but I was looking for revenge.

Thank god it never found me or it woulda been the end.

  • Es tan groso que no puedo dejar de escucharlo y mirar su talento

  • I will soon have the initials SRV tattooed on my arm. When I was 10 years old I saw the VH1 Legens about Stevie and it inspired me. I got my first electric guitar for that christmas after much begging and I am now 26 and have owned my Fender SRV Strat for 13 years and have never stopped playing. THANKYOU SRV!!!!!

  • I think he's saying "breakneck pace"

  • Definitely my favourite SRV song.

  • @cerealboxcar Is it at a breakneck pace?....... stevies strat rules.

  • @jeffsdolphin what?

  • @jeffsdolphin "Feels like I'm losing time, at a pregnant pace."

  • @Nem33 I think it's "breakneck pace" not pregnant pace.

  • Thank you for posting this, awesome!

  • God gave us a gift in Stevie Ray Vaughn,,,,,enjoy and never forget!!

  • this is so high quality..

  • His playing is so damn effortless...an extension of the man describes it perfectly. I thought what I did was "play guitar", everytime I see Steevie I realize I was also mistaken.

  • That guitar was just an extension of that man. This is just my own opinion but I truly believe he's the best of all time. Jimmy was innovating and awesome and I felt his music, but SRV just kept me in tune at all times. It was like he could take any kind of music and burn it up including Hendrix's own Voodoo Chile or Child, however it's spelled. The chord stacking and solos were amazing. He sounded full all the time.

  • he just wants to play guitar, not sing about tightropes.

just hear his "AAAAAAHHHHH!!" of joy at 1:22 ...

PS: Stevie, you sang so well too... but your fingers...!!

  • I'm sure that stevie when play the guitar didn't had any notes in his mind...just feeling the music...the music that we hear, that's the feelings of stevie and his feelings we can hear now and a lot time after....R.I.P. Stevie...!

  • Rest in Peace Stevie Ray Vaughan.... We miss you.... August 27 2011 21 years gone by..... 21 years way to soon... R.I.P Stevie Ray Vaughan October 3 1954-August 27 1990

  • 21 years has passed and I still can't believe, he's not here anymore . R.I.P. SRV.

  • Im singing!!

  • Is it a fuzz face he's using for the solo's?

  • Sometimes I wish he at least looked like he was working hard to be brilliant.

    He just was I guess.

  • ...still crying, so true

  • how come there cant be popular musicians like this now a days

  • One of his best songs....RIP Strat Master

  • Genius at work!!! NO ONE played any better period!!!

  • Holy cow...I need a cigarette now!!! RIP, you are missed SRV :)

  • the way he played made drummers feel bad about how good they were at drumming

  • austin city limits baby !

  • I DONT UNDERSTAND.. how could a monkey pressed the dislike button.? who let the monkey out of its cage?

  • he was born to be a great talented guitarist n vocal ... GOD bless u srv..RIP

  • he got cool sound too!!! love it

  • enthutiastics!!!!

  • my o my .....

  • That second solo is just......

  • He was sensitive, talented and semi-god when it comes to playing guitar, especially his favourite, fender stratocaster. Not cocky at all. Love your music. Wish you were

    here, Stevie Ray <3

  • What model is a certain Marshall amplifier behind him?JTM45??

  • @SHOYUMAME marshall town and country

  • I wonder who it is that dislikes stevie ray

  • dear lord!! please have mercy on that helpless guitar!!!

  • SRV and Double Trouble were tight! They always meshed so well.

  • 1:21... Strat explodes in sonic ecstasy!

Thanks fairmount1935, I was looking for this Austin City Limits version for quite a while!

  • 3:37...CLIMAX!!!

  • woah that guitar tone rivals eddie van halens brown sound! I love them both, but that tone is just amazing!

  • The sound he's getting in this video is amazing I love it. I wish I knew the setup.

  • I was showing this to my brother and when the first solo starts, he goes, "I hate how he is so cocky, look at the way he is playing it.." I felt like falcon punching him in the face. I play and I actually have some respect for SRV. SRV FTW

  • @MonsterHunter721 haha. dude, if anything, a guy like him playing like that is understated. you should have falcon punched the gay outta him.

  • @MonsterHunter721 is he the bastard that has the 1 dislike? lol

  • @MonsterHunter721 He obviosly knows nothing about SRV. He was a very humble guy and nice guy, even his ex-wife said so....she also said anytime she hears the song Lenny she still cries. He was by no means "cocky" he was just feeling the music. At least you have respect for him!

  • If I could find the prick who didn't like this, well!!! Nuf said. Go to AA, it works!

  • Is this "Austin City Limits", by chance?

  • @uofm97

    Yes It is.

  • Miss him so much : (

  • I gotta say, every time I watch this I literally jump out of my seat and get the chills @ 3:32 in to the Vid when he kicks in to his second solo.

  • Thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you have done Stevie!

  • He handled a guitar as though he was born with it. Mind boggling!!!

  • 1:20 On... F#*%ing EPIC

  • Holy shit! Again and again I can't believe how awesome Stevie was...!!!

  • Realistically, I can't really play my instrument...

  • @natkingcool98 Makes me want to put mine down.

  • Damn... It's one of the best live versions i've ever heard... SO MUCH PASSION!!

  • @CimpoIlRozzo Because he was HOME!!!

  • what feelings he must of experienced while playing so intensely.

  • oh man 3.56 he hits that note that suprises even himself looks down to see what he did , closes his eyes goes into a trance like state , then lets rip with a few more of them , fucking fantastic

  • oh man 3.58 he hits that note that suprises even himself looks down to see what he did then lets rip with a few more of them , fucking fantastic

  • I cannot disagree with any of the comments about SRV.He was an absolute genius.

Being from UK I never managed to see him in concert.I did see,on many occasions, another guitar genius-Rory Gallagher R.I.P.He DID play with unbridled passion and is an absolute legend to his followers.Sadly he never got the credit he deserved.Check out `shinkicker` and `bullfrog blues` Live.

  • This guy is my IDOL!!!

He is an absloute legend, the man that kept me alive in my depression, and inspired me to play guitar, and live my life to the sound of the blues, one day Steie, I will jam with you, in the great blues hall in the sky!

  • oh and by the way peoles hes playing with 13 GAUGE STRINGS!!!! for those of you who dont know that much about playing guitar thats like playing with PIANO WIRE ON YOUR GUITAR!!! most rock n roll guitarists like EDDIE VAN HALEN, JIMMY PAGE and HENDRIX use 9-10 gauge srtings, theyre way thinner and easier to bend, so to get those kinds of bends and screams out of guitar with those HEAVY AND THICK STRINGS is just frggin amazing!! noone sounds like SRV !!! R.I.P.!!!!!!!

  • this friggin guy was so bad ass on the guitar its sickening!!!! i dont think theres anybody in the history of rock n roll and the blues who played with more passion and fury than the LATE GREAT STEVIE RAY VAUGHN!!! god bless and RIP SRV!!! and thanx for the kick ass music!!!!

  • The first ten seconds of the first solo, he just hits you in the head with a sledgehammer. This performance is sort of like "There's the Beatles and then there's everyone else." Same thing can be said about this.

  • @Jim72344 couldnt agree more!!!! i saw him back in 88 in mansfield mass. and he blew the doors off the place!!! and blew robert plant, who he was opening up for, off the goddam stage!!! hard act to follow!!! SRV KICKS ASS!!!!

  • I miss Stevie Ray. Can't imagine how much music his untimely death has deprived us of.

  • SURE KNOWS HOW TO PLAY THAT GUITAR ♥♥♥ YOU SWEEET ANGEL !!!

  • 1 person must have fallen off the tightrope

  • Hi! My name is John "Marty" Trautman, co-founder & member of a New York City doo-wop group known as "The Chevrons". While Stevie Ray will ALWAYS be the one & only Stevie Ray, let's not forget about "Double Trouble"!. On this particular song, I believe the drummer plays exceptionally well. I don't know why "fairmount1935" didn't post my previous comment, but I hope that he or she posts this one.

  • Better than the studio version.

  • He will always be the best

    god bless him

    hugs from Brazil

    Moyses

  • Nice

  • the whole wide greater soul of texas lies on solid amazing genius of steve ray vaughan and freddy king - god bless that land for give them to our greatful world!

  • i'm not religious but IF there's an afterlife and IF stevie is there playing his tunes it just might be worth dieing today ...

  • I never thought of it untill you mentioned it, but you're right. Why isn't this guy in the rock and roll hall of fame? My father actually ran into him and talked to him a few times at a 711 when we lived in Austin,Texas back in '83.

  • WHY STEVIE IS NOT IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME IS THE QUESTION!!! THIS GREAT MAN SHOULD BE THERE. HE WAS ELIGIBLE IN 2008 AND KEEPS GETTING OVERLOOKED!! RIP STEVIE, HOPE ONE DAY YOU WILL BE INDUCTED!!

  • pantheon guitariste

  • Oh, and who in the heck is the one lost soul who thought this is bad? Jeez, I feel sorry for ya, my man.

  • Everything was so good about SRV. I'm fortunate to have been a fan of his since I first heard Couldn't Stand the Weather, which was back in '84, if I remember correctly (for me). Got to see him twice.

He was a one man freight train aimed straight at your soul. Nobody powered the rails harder than SRV.

I'd say Rest in Peace...but if there's an afterlife, he's rattling someone's windows right now.

  • The earth rattles from 3:42-3:46

  • Hear that scream at 1:23 ? So intense , he plays with so much passion. We miss you Stevie :'(

  • thats swag

  • Great double hammer on at 1:41. Stevie uses nearly all of a guitar player's tools in this lead -- hammer ons, pull offs, string bends. All he's missing is tapping.

  • GREAT!!!

  • Bad ass!

  • SRV's story of redemption is one of the all-time greats. It brings me great comfort knowing he left us after he got to a place where he was able to truly love both himself and his life. Learning to love yourself isn't easy, but thanks to SRV for showing so many of us how, through your music and also through your character. God bless.

  • Im only beginning to get into Stevie's music but i have to say that just watching his face when he plays fascinates me and makes me want to pick up my guitar!! Thanks so much for uploading this!!!

  • stevie is the man. one person accidentally pressed the dislike button.

  • Massive tone, intense playing. One of his best performances of this tune. We miss you so much Stevie.

  • @stratmad yeah MASSIVE TONE!

  • In terms of nailing down notes and rhythms with feeling, Stevie was the best guitar player at it.

  • Some of the greatest guitarist ever are ROCKIN IN HEAVEN , Hell is so jealous.
