This is a very beautiful song. I have a question: What is the lead instrument? Is it, in this recording, a synthesized gezhung (do the Vietnamese have another specific name for the instrument?) -- perhaps performed on a guitar or piano first and then synthesized? Or is it actually a gezhung that has been modified, with pickups and etc, and recorded?

@witkola If one sound had to be chosen to evoke Vietnam, for many it would be the sound of the Dan Bau as it is one of only two traditional musical instruments of purely Vietnamese origin.

Among many kinds of monochord of countries all over the world, there are Tuntina of India, Cung of East Africa, Tushuenkin of China. However, none of them can produce such a popular and highly artistic system of overtones as that of Bau of Vietnam.

@BeckyBui1 Hi Becky, actually this halter top is kind of the equivalent of a traditional vietnamese bra or halter. lower class peasant women might wear it alone with a skirt and sash however most girls in the past (especially upper class) would wear it underneath a blouse or robe, as it would be considered "too sexy" by itself as you said. it's called "yem"
