I had the Van Beuren Felix cartoons on tape when I was little!  Even if they turned him into a generic funny animal, I loved them. Granted, it could be attributed to the fact that I never saw the original silent shorts as a kid.

I was lucky as a kid growing up in the 90s that I had a tape of classic cartoons like this. Cartoons I grew up to were great anyways, but I'd have hated to not have Felix along for the ride =)

Wow--this is really imaginative stuff! I remember the TV Felix as being one of my faves when I was just a little guy...I've never seen this Felix, but I actually prefer the earlier version. Very cool!

@nomyek200 I believe 1936. Its a shame these color Felix cartoons weren't succesful. I mean, when I was little, these unsuccesful color Felix cartoons were actually the first (and olny) Felix cartoons I saw, believe it or not. Now that I see the original black and white cartoons and the 1959 tv series with the magic bag and the proffesor, I realize how different this was for a Felix cartoon.

@SomeFluffer64 Yes, the whole reason these toons flopped is because they took a unique character like Felix and dumbed him down to become a generic funny animal. If you want to see the original Felix in his prime, track down the black & white Felix cartoon DVDs, or better yet, the great book "Nine Lives to Live: Felix the Cat".

I think Felix is due for another return. that Christmas special..... The outlines were horrible. I mean Felix is the first cartoon character with a personality.

It got one revival in all-nite cinema rock-concerts in the seventies at Kings-Cross cinema in London. where everyone loved the Felix films showed betwen acts to us hippies Felix will always have a fan-base. I love the twenties (or thereabouts) background music too.
