I have friends still alive, not much older then I am who heard him in Chicago and I also talked to Maestro Bruno Bartoletti about him, everyone liked his voice. He was short but it shouldn't mean anything. Today they seem even more into looks, stupid! This man sang in Aida, also as calaf and in forza and at times sounded like Bergonzi with more heft on top.I have heard many tenors on stage in the opera house, over 50 years of opera going and he is one of my favorites! Here he is live! RIP

can you believe this fabulous tenore remained all his life in the "second tier" only because he was SHORT??? damn those stupid theater managers. i heard him live at teatro colon many many years ago. a religious experience! such color, such virility!

very fine lyric spinto tenor, in fact he was very short and that sadly is to some people important. Today he would be wanted in every major house in the world. He died because of a tragic auto accident, age 64.

I was lucky to catch him when he sang at the met. BEAUTIFUL voice. No tenor has given me goose bumps the way he did. Thank you for posting.

This is the first time I've heard Flaviano! That's truly a beautiful voice, much better quality than many, many others. A little under the pitch and yes, the conductor was indulging him. I would guess that was the tempo he's used to and with a voice that beautiful no one is complaining very much. The scooping and a little under the pitch is probably what kept him from being hugely famous (of course I don't know his story), it is a fabulous voice!

Could the tempo be any slower? The music almost falls apart! This conductor must have been indulging himself mightily! Labo enters and sensibly picks up the tempo. Beautiful singing, but I prefer others in this music.

never heard such a slow rendition. You are right. many others do it better. Labò has a very "dark" voice.
