@cinefiles "You dissapoint me. You're nothing but a policeman" Also Q IS Major Boothroyd, in fact Anya Amasova calls him that in THE SPY WHO LOVED ME. It's in a scene after they meet and her and Bond have been working together. GOLDFINGER is the favorite among the average person and not the Bond fans, but it is still considered good among the Bond fans. True Bond fans like a deeper story and less camp and comedy, I would imagine.
@cinefiles Alexei Kronsteen is the chess master in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE. Rosa Klebb even says she's going to tell the girl she is still working for SMERSH to keep the ruse going, but it is definitely SPECTRE. In fact, Dr. No even lets Bond in on what SPECTRE is all about in that famous table confrontation. And why didn't you mention Pedro Armendariz as Kerim Bey, who was also a great and memorable performance.
How funny is it that they use Quarrel 2 times in the books in proper order but when they use Quarrel in Live and Let Die his name is Quarrel jr...sooo cheezy! BTW Honey Rider in Dr. No was supposed to be kind of dumb and innocent if you read the book (hell she even mentions it in the movie) she is a lil island girl that didn't go to school but read Encyclopedias for her knowledge.
I love this show. These guys are pretty knowledgeable about film and have a sense of humour about it as well. Plus I'm a Bond fan, so anybody willing to devote 4 freaking episodes on 007 is a winner in my book.
Good video. I agree with most of what they were saying except that Thunderball is better than they were making it out to be. Fiona Volpe is the greatest femme fatale in any Bond film and made up for the slightly weaker villian and they hardly mentioned her at all.
Man, is this guy Eric Cohen is a pompous ass. I love how he picks his nails, looks at them and nonchalantly answers questions, like he can't be bothered with answering stuff these other idiots don't know.
Very good, although someone needs to have a word with Michael about his constant interruptions and the way in which he feels the need to point his finger at his co-presenters whenever he's trying to make a point.
It's also worth noting that, more often than not, the points he tries to put across are badly argued and factually incorrect.
Not quite true... "Like heaven above me, The spy who loved me, Will keep my secret safe from you tonight." ALL TIME HIGH was the first song to not use the title... for obvious reasons. :D
Oh, but I do agree with you about Tom Jones' theme song. It wasn't even supposed to be the song for the film (the DVD allows you to watch the opening titles to the real song that was supposed to open the film: "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" by Dionne Warwick).
I just think the film suffers because of it. It's too bad they had to work the title of the movie into the song. I believe Nobody Does It Better from Spy Who Loved Me was the first song in the series not to have the title in the song.
I wish I was there to discuss with you guys(and OHMSS is also my favorite). Klaus Maria might have been a better villain than Adolfo Celi (and Max Von Sydow is a great Blofeld as well) but everything else is so off and it's not just the lack of the Bond theme. The entire movie to me feels like it was written by 12-year old Bond fans. The character of Fatima Blush especially is a 12-year old's view of a Bond villain, her eeeevil laughter, snakes, needles, etc...
Note: North By Northwest came out in 1959, not 57.'
I think Thunderball has the greatest cinematography of the entire series. The underwater photography is beautiful, especially the shot of the bubbles rising up as Bond and Domino disappear behind rocks. The Bahamas look fantastic.
I know you guys will laugh at me for this, but I prefer the remake: Never Say Never Again. Perhaps, it's because it's the first Bond film I say in the theatre, but I thought they improved the villain, and the pacing. In the original Thunderball, the underwater scenes go on way too long and Connery just looks so bored. I think he's having a lot more fun in Never and the film is better for it.
You need to see THUNDERBALL on the big-screen just as you did with NSNA to fully appreciate it. THUNDERBALL'S soundtrack is exceptional and the set pieces are memorable as they were in GOLDFINGER. Some of the underwater scenes in THUNDERBALL give the film an otherworldly feeling and are important to the story despite the time devoted to them. What THUNDERBALL lacks in character it more than makes up for in SPECTACLE.
I'll have to disagree with THUNDERBALL... I think it's one of the very best Bonds and much better than GOLDFINGER. Largo might not be the best villain, but Fiona Volpe more than makes up for it. John Barry's score, the underwater scope photography, I think it's one of the very best-looking films.
THUNDERBALL is a magnificent film to watch on the big-screen. John Stears won the 1965 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for his work on THUNDERBALL. But GOLDFINGER is still my favorite Bond film. It won an Academy Award for Best Sound Effects. The only two Academy Award winning Bond films.
Dr. No & Goldfinger are the best villains of the 60s, but Thunderball's Largo(Adolfo Celi) had a terrific physical presence and evoked power with his huge muscular form and menace with his eye-patch. Compare that to NSNA's Largo(Brandauer)who acts more like a spoiled child and very, very nasty. Celi was a much more menacing villain than Brandauer.

I love Largo in Thunderball. I do not get why he is considered a weak villian.

Commander James Bond is an officer of the British Secret Intelligence Service (SIS; commonly known as MI6). Not a secret agent.

He is not actually a "Secret Agent". He is an Intelligence Officer, grip over.
Love the show though.

He says "From Russia With Love" the video game followed the film very closely.
lmfao
Right. Because Red Grant was wielding a giant octopus robot in the film, right?

North by Northwest came out 1959. Duh (and he calls himself an expert)

He said that Hitchcock was interviewed after the Bond films came out and said if he had the opportunity to direct one that is how he'd have done it.
You should listen before criticizing !
oliverrhunt 3 years ago
yeah if it was after why say '57 when it was '59 and after means after '62, so theres no excuse
royalefreshness 3 years ago
Perhaps Hitchcock was referring to the Novels which came out in the 1950's?
