  • This is such a fun video! Thank you so much for making it. =)

  • Jeremy Brett makes Benedict Cumberbatch look like Justin Bieber.

  • Jeremy Brett is the most wonderful! He is truly the epitome of Holmes.

  • I discovered this series purely by chance in an UK TV channel and now I am watching the whole series on DVD. Jeremy Brett is (was :-(((( ) fantastic as Sherlock, just unbelievable.

  • Is it me or does he have a Dracula look about him?

  • @InYourHeadChangedMan Yeah kinda with the slick jet-black hair and old timey clothing, but I always imagined he represents an Eagle, sharpe pointy features, long pointy nose like a beak, eyes sitting back and sees everything.

  • I'm so pleased this video has proved as popular as it has - I did it for fun more than anything else. Will have to do the other series' when I get a moment, they're long overdue! =) x

  • @alexlgraham I believe they have been released on DVD. Huzzah!

  • 1:15 - What the heck does "prevaricating" mean?

  • @Calriec Taking overdue time on something, or trying to avoid the issue in this case, kind of going around the main issue =)

  • @alexlgraham Thanks. I seem to have misplaced my dictionary.

  • This man was so under-appreciated. There are so few actors out there capable of making a character truly realistic, there are even less with the dedication to keep going regardless of their personal health or with such eye for detail.

Benedict Cumberbatch is decent as a modern-age Sherlock Holmes, but he would sorely be out of place in such a remarkable classic. The (somewhat recent) movies somehow feel more like parodies to me.

  • @OmegaSamaRed i'm sure benedict could do a classic homes he is a really good actor but yeah it wouldn't be exactly like his current holmes as that wouldn't fit

  • Jeremy IS Holmes end of discussion!.

Oh and that voice of his,it's like George Sanders and Alan Rickman,oh I could listen to them all day long.R.I.P Jeremy.

  • He is brilliant as Sherlock Holmes, as i read the stories I picture him in my mind version.

  • le plus grand Sherlock Holmes

  • Jeremy Brett is a legend best Sherlock ever

  • @ShakyPaulisbk "best Sherlock ever"

Without question. He almost became Holmes; sadly, it destroyed his mental health.

When I watch the recent series vomited up by the BBC, I despair; the glowing reviews given to Benedict Cumberbatch (who is usually a good actor) are just ludicrous. He simply is not fit to lick Brett's boots in this role.

  • "Watson! That is a very loose translation!"

  • Holy cow! He sounds a lot like Professor Snape (though I know he's not).

  • An excellent choice of scenes that captures the essence of jeremy's holmes, well done, thank you tons

  • Nicely done..I busted out laughing at the whistle.

  • I have read the novels, and though they are worth reading before watching these splendid adaptations, Jeremy Brett has not been bested, nor is likely to be surpassed any time soon, in playing the on screen role of Sherlock Holmes.

  • Downey has the character, but not the appearance :( altho sherlock hokmes 2 was a FLAWLESS movie!!!

  • @overlex lol

  • @overlex You're kidding, right? Sherlock Holmes 2 could have been renamed 'The Victorian Batman', and they would have gotten away with it.

  • @impostoroak557 no I am not kidding. Definetly that movie was a big step ahead of those Hollywood shit movies like Twilight, the Tranformers remakes and a bunch of their shit that nowadays only focus on promoting sex and «pretty people» actors instead of entertainment. Hollywood narratives are starting to get incredibly old, but this movie was a huge improvement

  • @overlex OK, I'll admit that the film is good for what it is, and better than all the ones you listed (then again, I think watching grass grow for 2 hours beats watching Twilight), but it's not flawless, and it's certainly more an action film than a detective film.

  • @impostoroak557 well that`s true, I`ll thumbs you up on the grass growing. just been so long since Ive seen a GOOD movie not focusing on sex or pretty people come out in the theaters, which is why I fantasized so much on the 2nd sherlock movie, lol.

  • @impostoroak557

The first one could be named Victorian Rush Hour w/ Two White Guys.

  • His voice... Benedict Cumberbatch's voice... Orgasmic.

  • 3 pipe problem = 3 patch problem

  • @Thenewzboyof2000 i agree

  • 1:39 Steven fry?

  • Everything unknown is taken as important-- :S so loose? :p

  • Watson,. that is a very loose translation!

  • Did I really do remarkably badly?

    -

    -

    -

    'Yes!'

  • As brilliant as Benedict Cumberbatch is, I will always think of Jeremy Brett as Holmes. His portrayal was nothing short of beautiful.

The recent Hollywood attempts are painful to watch, such little care...

  • @ElHanko Indeed!

  • @ElHanko Oh, it's really accurate- fight, fight, fight, explosion, fight, fight...oh right, it's not a Batman film. My bad.

  • He's so adorably indignant when Watson loosely translates :)

  • Jeremy Brett, in my opinion, was THE best Sherlock Holmes on screen!

  • @cardfreaked

I agrree with you my friend

  • @cardfreaked absolutely !! I don't think there is any actor for that matter who represented any fictional character from classic books as good Jeremy Brett did with Sherlock Holmes.

  • 2:54 WATSON look at holmes throw those hips

  • Huge fan of Holmes. I love how he thinks. I also love his reasoning, take away everything which cannot be true and you must therefore be left with the truth. Brilliant!

  • I am watching the Russian version of the series.. can any body give me the link of these black and white series..i am one of the best fans of Sherlock Holmes...

  • I like the another DR.Watson

  • "beyond the obvious facts that you are a bachelor, a solicitor, a freemason and an asthmatic I know nothing of you whatsoever"

  • FIRE but we can do better than that lol classic

  • "Watson, that is a very LOOSE translation!" Holmes makes me laugh so much XD

  • The "FIRE" one is my absolute favorite!

  • This video is perfection! *-*

  • I'm speechless.

  • ...but I abhor the dull routine of existence... I crave mental exaltation...

  • 3:57

Man:Yes! He hanged himself during the night.

    Holmes:*Whistles*

    lol

  • @LittleFanGirl

And it really happened in the original "The Resident Patient" eh xDD.

  • @LittleFanGirl that was funny

  • The way he has his legs at 3:00 is just strangely cute.

  • W: Did I really do remarkably badly?

    H: (thinks about it) ...Yes!

    Love it!

  • Brett was one of the greatest not apreciated actors in history.

  • @gonzak123 couldnt agree with u more

  • @gonzak123 agree.

  • Watson: Did I /really/ do that remarkably badly?

    Holmes: *pause* Yes!

    Haha love that.

  • 1:23 pom pom pom... I love that.

  • excellent editing!

  • Watson: Did I do so exceptionally bad?

    Holmes: *pauses* Yes!

lol Jeremy Brett was an exceptionally GREAT Holmes!

  • the solitary cyclist

  • Which episode is the clip from 3:29 - 3:38 from. BTW very nice work :)

  • @riva1101 this is the solitary cyclist

  • Thanks for posting this, it was very enjoyable to watch! Jeremy did a great job as Sherlock, but I'm a Rathbone fan, through and through! I should seriously consider watching this show, though.

  • @cutecat2345 I'm a Rathbone fan too but I feel Jeremy has realized the true delivery of Holmes wit, sans the Victorian reserve. I love Rathbone in anything. He played a lot of anti heroes, like in Captain Blood.

  • great compilation.

  • He is the best! Ever!!!!! Greetings from Argentina!

  • beautiful

  • does anyone know what episode 0:30 is from: where he says "my mind rebels against stagnation"

  • @sineaddg It's from the very first episode - A Scandal In Bohemia x

  • @alexlgraham thanks!

  • @sineaddg it is from The Sign of Four

  • @sineaddg that would be the first one scandel in bohemia

  • I never watch Jeremy that much. I may have to start checking him out. I am strictly a Basil Rathbone man! ahahah thanks for the post!

  • I love how he acts when he doesnt like watson's translation.

  • If memory serves, it is from 'The Norwood Builder'...or a title incredibly similar. I think it's something like the third last or something in the first season x

  • What episode is 3:40 from the fire scene?

  • So very dramatic in every single line. I wonder if it's necessary?

  • Comment removed

  • Haha the whistle at the end was perfect.

  • Could anyone tell me what Holmes says in The Dancing Men scene at 1:16? Many thanks. :)

  • @Emi101 "And you have a way of prevaricating with your answers, Mr. Cubbitt." =) x

  • @alexlgraham Thank you very much! Ive always wondered about that.

And sorry not to have said it before, but I do love your collection of quotes. Isn't Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes just a gift from the gods? :)

  • @alexlgraham GET TO THE POINT, CUBBITT!!! pwnage

  • Jeremy Brett has defined sherlock holmes! no one will ever be able to act as sherlock holmes the way he did it! it will not be the same

  • @daemon0A

which is precisely why I look at other actors: I don't want an exact copy of Brett.

  • @academicsrule fair enough

  • @academicsrule Don't worry. You'll never find it.

  • Am I the only one who thinks JB looks EXCEPTIONALLY young and beautiful in 'The Speckled Band'?

  • @xxdrosexx I know, right? When he was watching that guy, he looks so young and handsome! XD

  • @prolifeprincess Why, thank you very much! I ought to crack on and do the second one in that case =) x

  • @alexlgraham Oh yes! Please do! :D

  • Season 1? That would be.....the adventures? I am ordering my first set of dvds but i don't know what to get! Which ones come first?

  • @prolifeprincess Yes, Adventures Of come first. Then Return Of, then The Case book, then there are a couple that I don't think belong to a particular named series (or I'm just not sure what it is!) and then finally The Memoirs. Have you read any of the books? Both are just as amazing as each other =) Have fun!!! xoxox

  • @alexlgraham Thank you so very much! Yes, i've read all the books, i have them all in 2 volumes! And (hehe) i have them just about memorized. :) The adventures are my fav, but i was just wondering if they made the movies in order. Sometimes they tend to mess things up a bit....with order, y' know. Well, thanks!

  • @prolifeprincess if you live in North America, there is 12-dvd-set that includes ALL of the episodes and films... best buy ever.

  • Holmes: could you please join me..in the call of fire..1 2 3..FIRE!!!

    Gentlemen: fire........fire.......(In a lazy way.)

Holmes: You can do better than that.

  • PC: Mr Holmes the goose! the goose! Mr Holmes

Holmes: What of it man...has it come back to life and..flapped off through the kitchen window..?

    LOL!

  • I loved this video! More, please! :)
