Viz. “I don't believe it was 1977 when this was recorded . someone must be doing a mistake .it looks as if it about 1980 considering the haircut .“… The Banshees were no supermarket/high street punks, they invented it, pure DIY, hence the avant garde haircut (and sound).
There are two kinds of bands that could do "Lord's Prayer" - a band that doesn't give a toss, and a band that thinks itself precious. The transition for the Banshees came remarkably early in their career. In 1977 they were punk like the Adverts, Siouxsie as bratty as Billy Idol (a good thing). By 1981 Siouxsie was Linda Ronstadt. The band would still play jangly chords but it was oh so calculated. Polly Styrene could have been singing about them. But Carcass? that was what it was about!
@jhnbalance WRONG! that footage is at the Roxy club in London in 1977 during the 100 days along with Sex Pistols, the Damned, Slaughter and the Dogs, Subway Sect Xray Spex, the Slits etc.....
@CynicallyInsaneX Yeah, when punk first started, he sported bleached blonde hair that was dyed black on the top and then later he gre it out a little and dyed it strawberry blonde. Come around the time Juju was being recorded, he bleached it to his standard blonde do.
YOu made me appreciate that I still have my PunkRockMovie-I've also learned thru trial and error not to lend"friends" things sacred to my library-I'm sorry but I just wont do it anymore...A real friend will understand anyway huh
this is fuckin' amazing. one of the best songs they ever wrote. the first 3 albums are phenomenal--really rare to see a band stay so consistently amazing.
Awesome! Scream and Join Hands are my favorite Siouxsie albums/cds. I do own them all and enjoy all of the banshees, but the first 2 are the best of the best!
@Hellishhorse Oh don't sound so defeatist mate. I think later works like Juju, Kaleidoscope, and Nocturne among others were just as great along with The Scream and Join Hands. :)
Ah-Jakegothicsnake-You [I think] are a young, shiny eyed, bushy tailed Goth.......I am an elderly, grumpy cynical Punk-being defeatist is a hobby of mine! [Souxsie is great at whatever she does!].H.Hx.
amazing how people who like music and have integrity but knew little formally musically wrote the best music of this period.I always love siouxsie .the Cure has become so obvious.Clash were good Pil were great ideas his bassist WOW! Gang of four .So little has gotten my attention since the bands now get mid of road so quick.the personality and integrity aint there!
yeah because they're all run by hippie yuppies. you think they want their kids blastin this at home. listening to the fakes has always been easier for the do as I say not as i did crowd.
@lovesGenet look up The Floating Corpses, or Veronica Lipgloss & the Evil Eyes, or The Stripmall Seizures, or The Phantom Limbs... those are just four of the amazing bands that came out of the SF bay area in the last 12 years that were part of this amazing dark wave/post punk movement that was happening here... i bet you'll love em
@lovesGenet I know...why just a few hours ago as I was surfing through the tv, I saw this commercial on the Disney Channel with this three boy that looked eeriely similar to the Jonas Brothers and I was like "WhaT??!! OH COME ON!!! WE DON"T NEED THIS SORT OF JUNK ANYMORE!! GIVE IT A REST!!
lol ok anyways this songs col i love siouxsie and the banshees too bad john mckay and Kenny Morris Abandoned the band but their better off ANyways ally sheedy shes hot in um that movie WAR GAMES~
Madonna was lead singer in a band called "Emmy" in the late 70s and had dark short hair and performed the same type of music so its easy to get them confused here...except for the voice. Souxsie's voice is stronger than Madonnas.
breakfast club is one of my favorite movie. when i saw ally sheedy on your web site, i thought i knew her from somewhere. now i remember she was in the breakfast club.she was weird. i love her.

solwolfpunk 4 years ago
Madonna was trying to cash in on punk she was not the real thing
solwolfpunk 4 years ago
I don't exactly think of Madonna as punk...not even close.

you are correct but before she was Madonna as we know her she was in a pseudo punk band. I forget the name of it.
solwolfpunk 4 years ago
what is pseudo?madonna was in a band called "the breakfast club".i remember seeing her in a documentary where she was singing punk.
aschenputtel85 4 years ago
LOL You found this. I was hoping you'd forget. Madonna was in a fake lame ass band. She sucked in it too. Not real and raw like Siouxsie.
