There have been 5 major hockey tournaments in the last year. USA has won 2 (U-18's, women's worlds). Canada has only won 1 (U-20's).

Outside hockey, we've won the Ryder Cup, the men's and women's Olympic basketball tourneys, three of the four Olympic volleyball tourneys (men's floor, men's and women's beach). And that's just team sports, I can cite many major tournaments in tennis, golf, and the Olympics which USA won.
