The DJ cuttin' up one of the interludes/skits from Malcolm McLaren & The World's Famous Supreme Team's DUCK ROCK album...I think it was the intro skit to the classic "Buffalo Gals" jam!!!
@xXREZTEFXx thats whats so cool. classic funk plus this weird insane 'futuristic' shredding. it doesn't sound like a lot but it's the coolest mix of genres i've ever heard
Praxis is...was....ever shall be...one of the MOST amazing projects to ever happen musically - especially this LP. This defined the 90's for me. Together with copious amounts of LSD, I think my brain is permanently tweeked.
Folks, the first twenty seconds of this song is what hooked me on Buckethead for 15 short years now.
It's more mind blowing to those of us that understood the hairband days. Nobody played like this back then, except Shawn Lane who was not of this universe.
I understand this. That was exactly my point. The supposition is that guitar playing died post-hair band guitarists. When grunge took over, right.? Buckethead was raising guitarists eyebrows from coast to coast regardless of the proclaimed death of technical proficiency caused by "grunge" and embraced by the aforementioned "hair" guys.
I find the thin juxtaposition of guitar genre's facilitated at the time of Buckethead's ascent to be the ultimate feather in his cap.
@frackle123 Oh, that all makes sense then. But what I find brilliant about Buckethead is that he didn't do wait the glam bands did and actually incorporated shredding into an interesting and fascinating song and set it in at a good place in the song. i.e. at the beginning of this song to give everyone that "Whoa, that guitarist is INSANE!" feeling but then bringing out the funk to keep the "His playing has no emotion" out of it. Rather than verse/chorus/verse/chorus/guitar solo/chorus.
@TheNethero For me, and this is just me, Buckethead's brilliance lies in the gestalt he fuses between his imagination and the breakneck speeds he plays scales at and how he utilizes them to create mood in his music.
Sure, dummies mindlessly chant the mantra shred sucks in a misguided effort to diminish his playing but when you really listen, he's so atmospheric and adept at making his guitar create three dimensional soundcapes that I realize they're just ignorant or clueless.
@frackle123 shawn lane has to be one of the most under-rated guitarists EVER... i swear. i am almost ashamed to be born in the day and age that i was raised everything is a cash grab and noone appretiates talent. shawn lane, buckethead, eric johnson, paul gilbert. those guys could freaking PLAY! but odds are you wont find them on VH1 or MTV

@frackle123 but Praxis started after the hairband days were over with. And Shaw Lane was ripping in the 70s while this was released in 1992
