Nicky Wire has always said horrible thing's about people in the past, that's how he was. I think his uncontrollable mouth has learnt to bite it's lip now though!
thanks for explaing guys,i thought if i sneaked tablets into hospital my mum would still be alive.in a funny way im glad im not alone and others think similar.god help me this chrstmas ,guess we all have to pull through.
@cinedores i wasnt aware of that. if so then they should have known better and i cant judge you on your comment, although you only lowered yourselve to that level. i wouldnt wish it on anyone ,including you
The song is inspired by the cranberry juice drink that James would take in to his mother Sue whilst she was in hospital undergoing treatment for cancer, eventually his mother died from the disease and he wrote this song about his feelings. its the first manics song lyrics written by james, usually its nicky (or richey). The Drummer Sean played a trumpet solo on the song. I think if you really listen to the lyrics you will break your heart, such an amazing tribute to jame's mother.
FYI - anyone who doesn't know (I'm sure many of you do...) - Ocean Spray is a popular brand of cranberry juice in the UK which is is very good for you and a lot of cancer patients drink it, along with other healthy drink/food options in the hope it will fight the cancer, in some way. It sounds like his mother is falling away at this point, and I'm sure he doesn't believe the juice will make any difference, but it's a poignant reference to the months of struggle that may have preceded her death.
Even though this is an Upbeat song, the feeling of longing for a lost embrace surrounds my memories... When A singer pours his soul into a song you can share his feelings too. The part with the Sax just breaks me down every time. Cheers...
this song is so beautiful and sweet. it might sound silly, but when I watch this video I feel I'd like to give James a hug. his eyes seem so sad, it moves me.
@msgr33nday - OH WE'LL NEVER FORGIVE YOU !!YOU'RE DOOMED..:))..DON'T WORRY..WON'T CHANGE ANYTHING..THEIR MUSIC IS INDISPUTABLE ANYWAY AND I'M SURE THEY'VE SEEN WORSE SINCE THEY STARTED THIS 'PROJECT''..:) PEACE!
When james sings its easy to cry at 1.53 check the look of real emotion on his face. I think he's one of the best songwriters the UK has ever produced.
I don't know much bands in the world, that could touch my heart, soul and mind in the same time. I have the feeling, that they really understand the world and people around us. Its the brutal honesty and humaneness of this band that makes them so great.
even though this is a very sad song for the reason it was written but it still manages to warm my heart in a way... it always makes me smile... "it is easy to see only white, where colour should be!it's easy to breathe only air where life should be!"
very touching song. I had the same experience with my mum that died for cancer and her last days she couldn't eat but only drink. and when i saw whispering her last breath i repeted so many times "please don't sleep" like james sings.. i can not cry when i hear this song. mums are always our most important woman in a man's life and my wife is agree. intelligent woman that's why i love her.
@MrDenis965 I am truly sorry to hear about your mother, you are a very sweet man. A great solo effort for James here having his own go at writing lyric's for a change and for the very first time? backed as always by great music.
As a big fan of the phonics i defo disagree, they do not try to distance themselves, well kelly and richard, from their welshness, i cannot see where you're getting that from at all.
i think some welsh bands embrace their welshness and do it really well, like the super furries, but i think the manics are the band i'm most proud of, the stereophonics (or kelly and richard) are obviously trying to leave their welshness behind and look too big for their boots.
@fuckamericanidiot - I disagree in the sense artists want to experiment as much as possible when they make their mark - some bands stay inside whilst others move out and obviousy lose their original essense of what was before they hit big time, But we cant expect musicians to stay inside their borders - mind control aint fun dude!
I reply with light heartedness so no trolling dude!
no i don't expect them to, basically i think the sterophonics try to distance themselves from their welshness but end up sounding like a generic small time band anyway
Well its a part of experimentation of music - as i say we cant hold anyone back in expressing themselves - just stop listening to them - which is what i did!
@lokimonoxide - sometimes if a song does not make sense it stays in my head longer but i think this makes more appreciable sense now so thanks for the insight.
I kept imagining myself standing at th pier with the ocean spraying its contents on me (as in when I went to Weston super mare) but now i have a carton full of emotional turmoil for his mom, the latter is the more adult side i guess
