  • So beautiful. I'd like this played at my funeral....

  • Why isnt this on fucking itunes!?!?!?!?!?!

  • Next Manic Street Preacher's album please! waiting..

  • Nicky Wire has always said horrible thing's about people in the past, that's how he was. I think his uncontrollable mouth has learnt to bite it's lip now though!

  • Every once in a while I hear this being piped through the speakers of my local super market in America!?

  • @McAteerPaul that IS awesome!

  • great

  • thanks for explaing guys,i thought if i sneaked tablets into hospital my mum would still be alive.in a funny way im glad im not alone and others think similar.god help me this chrstmas ,guess we all have to pull through.

  • why cant nicky wire die of cancer?

  • @cinedores idiot

  • @1nikg

didnt the manics make the same comment that i made to michael stipe

  • @cinedores i wasnt aware of that. if so then they should have known better and i cant judge you on your comment, although you only lowered yourselve to that level. i wouldnt wish it on anyone ,including you

  • @cinedores What they said he should die???

  • @aranterranting

nicky wire said stipe should die of aids

  • beautiful

  • Christians should not be divided into divisions or denominations. The bible says that we should all speak the same thing.

  • The song is inspired by the cranberry juice drink that James would take in to his mother Sue whilst she was in hospital undergoing treatment for cancer, eventually his mother died from the disease and he wrote this song about his feelings. its the first manics song lyrics written by james, usually its nicky (or richey). The Drummer Sean played a trumpet solo on the song. I think if you really listen to the lyrics you will break your heart, such an amazing tribute to jame's mother.

  • @killerste ya,,your so right in what u say

  • Comment removed

  • WTF? Not on iTunes.

  • superb, in every sense of the word. god I love the Manics. I couldn't imagine a world without them.

  • FYI - anyone who doesn't know (I'm sure many of you do...) - Ocean Spray is a popular brand of cranberry juice in the UK which is is very good for you and a lot of cancer patients drink it, along with other healthy drink/food options in the hope it will fight the cancer, in some way. It sounds like his mother is falling away at this point, and I'm sure he doesn't believe the juice will make any difference, but it's a poignant reference to the months of struggle that may have preceded her death.

  • @mooco2edd btw, the last sentence is my understanding of the song - i don't pretend to believe exactly what the reference means to James...

  • god i love this band

  • who dislike this song? that so patetic....i though

  • Even though this is an Upbeat song, the feeling of longing for a lost embrace surrounds my memories... When A singer pours his soul into a song you can share his feelings too. The part with the Sax just breaks me down every time. Cheers...

  • very GOOD band, so emotional, and melancolic, I love it

  • this song is so beautiful and sweet. it might sound silly, but when I watch this video I feel I'd like to give James a hug. his eyes seem so sad, it moves me.

  • I keep hearing this and "The Everlasting" being played through the speakers of American super markets!

    Strange but true.

  • i love, i love this song. somewhat sentimental, yet beautiful.

  • I fell in love with this song, when i first heard it. The trumpet solo, it really gets to me.

  • So touching :-(

  • I adore the song ..but James is ...gorgeous!!!

  • deep fragile strong

  • James again your pain gives me strength - god bless you and all you believe in. You help so many people - we owe you so much. So sorry but thankyou!

  • "MOR VE ÖTESİ-CAMBAZ" Listen to this song. like

  • @msgr33nday - OH WE'LL NEVER FORGIVE YOU !!YOU'RE DOOMED..:))..DON'T WORRY..WON'T CHANGE ANYTHING..THEIR MUSIC IS INDISPUTABLE ANYWAY AND I'M SURE THEY'VE SEEN WORSE SINCE THEY STARTED THIS 'PROJECT''..:) PEACE!

  • @msgr33nday It's ok man! That happens :)

  • @PabloPJ86 thanks, but an awesome song like this deservers a bit more caution ;)

  • @msgr33nday

Just do 5 Ave Marias. ;) lol

  • @msgr33nday

Just do 5 Ave Marias. ;)))

  • When james sings its easy to cry at 1.53 check the look of real emotion on his face. I think he's one of the best songwriters the UK has ever produced.

  • pjesma je zarazno dobra a bogatstvo teksta je neizmjerno .Hvala vam na ovoj predivnoj pjesmi

  • I don't know much bands in the world, that could touch my heart, soul and mind in the same time. I have the feeling, that they really understand the world and people around us. Its the brutal honesty and humaneness of this band that makes them so great.

  • This song proves that the manics are one of the greatest bands in the world

  • even though this is a very sad song for the reason it was written but it still manages to warm my heart in a way... it always makes me smile... "it is easy to see only white, where colour should be!it's easy to breathe only air where life should be!"

  • super song by a fantastic band !

  • Amazing..

  • Watching the guy sing in this video is awkward lol I love this song but eh..

  • esta musica é muito boa , adoro a banda

  • please come to argentina!

  • fantastic song

  • disregard family

    aquire currency

  • awesome track

  • Oh, please staaaaaaaaaay awake

  • My mother died of cancer just over 2 years ago. She battled with it for over 10 years. Her fridge at home always had Ocean Spray in it.

I like to listen to this song, as then I don't feel alone.

    Peace to you all.

  • I'm sorry to hear that. My Aunty died around 2 years ago of cancer, it's such a terrible thing.....

  • no ocean is so broad without you,

no blue breath in your eyes to see together

  • very touching song. I had the same experience with my mum that died for cancer and her last days she couldn't eat but only drink. and when i saw whispering her last breath i repeted so many times "please don't sleep" like james sings.. i can not cry when i hear this song. mums are always our most important woman in a man's life and my wife is agree. intelligent woman that's why i love her.

  • I'm very sorry to hear that. Rest in peace.

  • Chin up pal, Stay Strong and may she Rest In Eternal Peace!

  • @gillo69 - pablopj86 thank you very much all. peace too.

  • @MrDenis965 I am truly sorry to hear about your mother, you are a very sweet man. A great solo effort for James here having his own go at writing lyric's for a change and for the very first time? backed as always by great music.

  • @MrDenis965 what you told is made my eyes wet

  • As a big fan of the phonics i defo disagree, they do not try to distance themselves, well kelly and richard, from their welshness, i cannot see where you're getting that from at all.

Anyway.. i love this so much.. very moving.

  • I love this song, This and Let Robeson Sing are my favourites from Know Your Ememy

  • nice song

  • i think some welsh bands embrace their welshness and do it really well, like the super furries, but i think the manics are the band i'm most proud of, the stereophonics (or kelly and richard) are obviously trying to leave their welshness behind and look too big for their boots.

  • @fuckamericanidiot - I disagree in the sense artists want to experiment as much as possible when they make their mark - some bands stay inside whilst others move out and obviousy lose their original essense of what was before they hit big time, But we cant expect musicians to stay inside their borders - mind control aint fun dude!

I reply with light heartedness so no trolling dude!

  • no i don't expect them to, basically i think the sterophonics try to distance themselves from their welshness but end up sounding like a generic small time band anyway

  • Well its a part of experimentation of music - as i say we cant hold anyone back in expressing themselves - just stop listening to them - which is what i did!

  • I think you will find that the welsh band trying to distance themselves from Wales is Bullet For My Valentine.

  • i try to forget that they're welsh

  • Sadly, i actually like them.

  • James would always bring his mother Cranberry juice whilst she was in the hospital. Thats where Oceanspray came from.

  • @lokimonoxide - sometimes if a song does not make sense it stays in my head longer but i think this makes more appreciable sense now so thanks for the insight.

I kept imagining myself standing at th pier with the ocean spraying its contents on me (as in when I went to Weston super mare) but now i have a carton full of emotional turmoil for his mom, the latter is the more adult side i guess

  • I don't get the song but the music is really good.

  • @gregbboy619 Wasn't the song inspired by the death of the songwriter's mother? - his feelings at the her bedside, sense of loss etc.....

  • Right, I think that the song is about her mother, who died of cancer (I think). But yes, I'm sure it's about her loss. Beautiful song. Greetins to everyone.

  • You're right!

  • I didn't know that...

  • "me-totemo-utsukushi-i-desu-ne

    totemo-utsukushi-i-me-wo-shitemasu-ne

  • please stay wake.!!! what a horror if you don't beleive this words in that fucking moment when you scream them.Anyway, great song !!!!!!!!!!

  • a friend of my mine has meet the guys and has said they are so down to earth

  • @tabbyboy

Close to the earth is more like it. James and Sean are tiny little smurfs!

  • excellent !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Same here.

  • very good song

  • great

  • Uf. Alal vera.

  • damn you can just see his pain. poor sod. wicked tune though!!

  • This song is about James mother...when she was dying.

How many of us want our mothers to go on for ever.

    Probably all of us.

  • aquella despedida en santander que sonaba a un "es imposible" y como querer es poder, se hizo posible. Y aquí seguimos!!

Preciosa canción que me trae recuerdos de aquella difícil despedida...

  • By the way when I said nice I meant as in a sentimental way.

  • I think this was about James mum dying of cancer. Nice song!

  • Emotional. Death leaves you numb. This song gives you that feeling.

  • My grandma drinks Ocean Spray's Cranergy. I do too. This song reminds me of her.

    :)

  • Give this comment a thumbs up if you think this song is five stars, and a thumbs down if any lower.

I wish I could give myself a thumbs up for this...

  • świetna piosenka i super zespół

  • predobra pjesma!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • pjesma je predobra!!!

  • I love this song, hear it almost everyday...

  • Amazing song.

  • supersonics

  • what a song :)

  • At last! A version of this song with good sound quality!

    5 stars just for that

  • Thanks! That's why I uploaded it. The song is too beautiful and deserves a good quality video.

  • I agree, it's a shame that all the previous versions have been poor javascript quality

  • comincio a pensare sia una delle canzoni più tristi e belle che io conosca...

  • The chorus sound goes so well with the song. Good song.

  • I miss my mam so much

  • Holy shit this song makes me so thirsty XD

  • I wish this song was on iTunes

  • it is

  • This is such a heart-felt Manic's song. I totally understand it... been there and done that when my girlfriend died of cancer... xxxx Miss ya Gayle xxxx

  • I really feel sorry for it.

  • Thanks mate... something to do with the 'fake hope' that cranberry juice can ease the pain... It doesn't... they just up the morphine... and you drift... sad to watch... but it's for the best XXX Much respect to Doctors & Nurses.... I'm sick of them getting butchered in the news lately. Gayle needed to die, she told me the pain was getting too hard to deal with. I still dream about her & she's smiling ;o)

  • I love this song

  • cool thanks mate! or arigato gozaimas rather...

  • You're welcome :)

  • can someone translate the japanese at the start?

  • The gathered meaning is:

"such beautiful eyes.. you have very beautiful eyes..."

Answer posted by someone on a previous comment.

  • oh you've got beautiful eyes

  • I love Manics! They're awesome! It's my favourite band ^^

  • very very good

  • I really like it

  • JUST WOW OF A SONG,FUCKING CLASS

  • Definitely one the 100 best songs of the last 50 years and maybe the best song of the 00's... Whether one likes the Manics or not , this is the truth...

  • Anyone got this on mp3? Itunes USA doesn't have it!

  • Some people just dont like the manics, some people have no fucking taste!

  • Right mate, you're so right, and they are so variated in style somehow if you listen to their Albums. And they're so good, that no matter that one has political differences with them, as in my case: one's got to love them. Manics are legends :)

Don't you think that maybe some people couldn't like them cos of their ideology? (Which I'd found absurd, they play great music, and that's what matters...) I don't know, they're so underrated...

  • Yeah you're right Pablo I think the socialist poitical stance put alot of people off, but they are now where near as radical as they used to be, they've got older and grown up. They are one of the best bands in the world in my opinion.

  • "Its Crantastic"......sorry had to bring a little levity!!

  • See when James sings "its easy to cry" you can see him physically choking up!!

  • This is one of the first songs I learned to play with guitar. Totally love it.

  • I'd love to have writen this song as an tribute to my brother, sadly death not long ago. Whenever I hear it I'm singin it in my mind to him. I wish he can hear me somewhere.

  • Parix78.....I feel ya man.....and your bro hears you! You have my love and sincerest condolonces.

  • Als ich den Song das erste mal morgens im Bad hörte, wurde ich ganz melancholisch. So traurig, so wirklich, so nah....diese worte.

  • Poor bastard! Nobody should have to go through this, but i'm so glad he can share his emotions through this wicked tune!

  • This is my fave song from the manics mostly because it has proper emotion in it he has written and singing about what he actually went through and it shows beautiful

  • Beautiful

  • met Podemos escuchir Nuevos temas ! shall we listen to new tracks?
