  • this guys nasty!!!

  • lol

  • When I first began playing, I tried to save money by buying a digital amp, line 6 spider 3, 75 watt, do you think I could at least achieve this tone with that amp? I feel so stupid "investing" in that amp haha.. Help?

  • @JrOsS696 Yes, it is possible but hard to do. VERY hard to do. I would recommend a Fender pro Junior or a solid state fender or Marshall. Either way, TUBES is really the only way you'll get close to any legends tone. (Usually)

  • It's actually not bad. There are some hints of SRV but one thing we should understand, to cop a tone, it should flow through you like the air you breath ..Still you will not be that person but you will def/ live in the moment ...

  • That's not SRV tone at all but cool chops man

  • Thats a beautiful looking strat, im drooling over the scratch plate

  • get yourself some pu's from early to mid 70's.Their reasonably priced and pretty close to the 60's in qaulity. Then u need a ts that's modded to original specs, the new ones don't cut it.

And lastly, keep the reverb turned way down.

  • best thing I ever bought btw.. a TS!!

  • euhm.. the intro of Pride and Joy isnt the bridge pickup XD

and through the mics ur using it sounds more like Mayer than SRV..

either way, all points are true, but the sounds isnt really there yet! u shouldve used CS texas specials and a marshall C; but ok

  • give.. me.. a.. tubescreamer..

  • Well done! I've done a SRV Tribute on and off over the years and I think your video is fabulous.

  • Just wondering, what amp is this?

  • @RuecianG Fender Blues Deluxe

  • it's a nice tone but it's not SRV

  • That's not Stevie's sound!!! Close but not!!!!!

  • love that guitar

  • Loved the video...thx and nice chops as well!

  • What song was that at the end?

  • @Tynes1112 It is texas flood but he has changed a few notes because of copyright laws.

  • wtf, did a britney spears ad just come on ?

  • What series Stratocaster is that? Color, wood, pickups and so on... Is it a custom shop? Thanks.

  • @MrRoadvalley 1960 relic custom shop in daphine blue, stock custom shop 60s pickups.

  • I think most people miss his tone because they think loud and crunchy. He used nickel rocker strings, they have a sweeter tone and not harsh and brittle like most of the Stevie wanna be wankers.

  • I want to buy a Tube Screamer, but I'm not sure what I need, TS9DX? TS808? TS9? Whats the difference?

  • @ArikBulldog buy a Joyo vintage overdrive pedal...same as 808....use it firts..... 50usd.

  • be my teacher!!

  • That is awesome tone.

  • That was the greatest thing I have ever seen in my entire life

  • goood !! master !!

  • 2:10 "with the tube screamer"

    *turns the pedal off

  • @chuecco "Scumbag guitar player"

  • @chuecco ahaha

  • @chuecco lol fail

  • Your lick kick ass.

  • cool

  • about your comparison with nad without Tube screamer tone:

this was not neck pickup with Tube Screamer but bridge pickup with Tube Screamer

  • distorted bridge for pride and joy? is this guy kidding me? for SRV tone all you need is a mid to high end fender valve, a vintage 'styled' strat or even an SRV strat and there's the closest you're gonna get without SRV's hands

  • it would help to show the EQ settings. I had this amp and it was extremely bassy even with the bass at ZERO

  • good tone but aint nothing ever gonna match stevies tone. the tone starts in the person

  • very nice...i like... how much?

  • Why did they use an Keeley Tubescreamer? There was no Keeley when SRV used the tubescreamers (he first used a 808, then 9, then the 10). Also the gain on the TS-808 in this video was to high. SRV would set the level very high to push the amp, the gain was low.

  • Not sure what the mystery is behind this tone. Push the front of a loud, clean Fender amp with a Screamer, plug into a Strat, and bend, push down, and play twice as hard as you normally would.

  • I NEED A TUBE SCREAMER!!!!!!

  • The clean tone is great I'll say that much.

  • hello ! anyone ! can tell me where I can learnd those fast licks ??? .. I really wanna play like that!

  • @freddyrock4ever12233 blues scale, major scale add some chromatic.

Practice all those , learn your trills, perfect your pull offs, and go from there.

start off playing hendrix for easier stuff like purple haze or crosstown traffic and move up to some SRV but don't just practice songs, see what signiture licks they do practice them and put them into your play style.

  • you have the perfect tone man, i have a peavey classic fiftey and it looks just like the 59' bassman, would it get me the same tone as the bassman in this video?

  • you could use a Wilkinson ATD auto tuner to tune in any tuning you wish in the blink of an eye!

  • Holy shit fucks, this guy is my new hero.

  • guy's damn good.

  • Marshall, Fender and what?

  • @YohaneRockett Dumble.

  • pride and joy is neck pickup!

  • that was so badass

  • Is that Fender Classic Player 60's strat?

  • Comment removed

  • THIS IS A GOOD VIDEO, BUT REMEMBER CHILDREN...

WHEN STEVIE RAY DIED, HE TOOK HIS FINGERS WITH HIM TO THE GRAVE - THAT IS WHERE THE TONE REALLY WAS!

I AM GLAD I COULD HELP CLEAR THAT UP FOR YOU, YOUR BILL WILL BE IN THE MAIL, KEEP WAILING, KEEP JAMMING, AND KEEP YOUR DAMN GERMS TO YOURSELF, I BID YOU A DOO-DOO!

  • @Bluesy1990 yeah thats right he did, but i use 10's :-(

  • When he says SRV used big strings, what size are we talking about?

  • @kentekent .13's-.56's or .58's I believe. He really used hybrid sets though, because later on Rene Martinez had him switch his high E string to an .11 to save his fingers.

  • Someone can sum up for no english speaker ?

need a US strat? have one

    need Blues Deluxe? have one

    Need tube sreamer now.

  • massive playing

  • Were can i get that pedal!? D:

  • @noaOFC its called guitar center

  • @150peacemaker oyay thanks 8D

  • love you

  • You are awesome. Have a nice day

  • For you guys criticizing him, watch the whole thing! He acknowledges strings and digging in hard - and also admits that overall this is a step in the right direction, not the complete picture.

  • Sonic Blue! Love it!

  • Stevie Ray created a sound that has gone onto be probably the most copied tone out of blues and rock soloists. Also his playing style rubbed off onto the millions of players who idolized his tone, such as the guy giving this demo.

But the lesson lost is that the sound was in his fingers. Vaughan could have taken any set up and made it sound that good, he had a signature.

  • he said bridge at 1:01 then he was playing on neck pickup. hes a little mixed up

  • What kind of Stratocaster are you using? like what kind of pickups?

  • @SinceWeRoam

    He says at 0:30

    pay attention

  • Not bad, but there' quite a lot of details missing here. I find the 3 BIG things that most people never pay enough attention to when it comes to getting his tone is

BIG strings, BIG frets, BIG action.

  • You should be carefull what you tell people. Pride and joy intro on the bridge pickup? No, the whole song is on the middle pickup.

  • That sounded fat and juicy just the way I like it.

  • what about the strings man?

  • i have a Hot Rod Deluxe anyone have any suggestions to getting a tube sound?

  • @Beers782 Turn on the amp

  • @Beers782 BRO THAT IS A TUBE AMP.. LMAO!

  • @MEX0688 I know it is but I cant get that rich sound out of it. I miss my Vox.

  • @Beers782 Really? do you have a fender strat as well?

  • @MEX0688 No I have a Mexican Tele which doesnt do it. My Ibanez SZ Prestige does a decent job. I havent found a Strat that has a good feel. I use to own a 60"s reissue but sold it because I needed money to put toward my wedding. My wife bought me a jem which is an awesome guitar but it isnt for that sound. If I drop the pick and pluck the strings on my SZ I guess it does ok.

  • @Beers782 Ok I see... I would recommend a TS-9 (DX) do the trick as in the video. A nice well rounded strat does a great job. I have a 2010 mex strat and I love the feel. Another guitar that I liked that worked really well with a nice blues sound was the Thin Line Tele, and it worked even better with the blues reissue amp. I just love the sound that it makes. I would recommend, also, spend hours, if needed, at guitar center and look for your tone on that amp and guitar combo.

  • Does anyone know what settings the Gain/Level/Tone knobs need to be on the TS to get Stevie's tone? I just received the TS9 today from Keeley and messed with it for about 2 hours, but I still couldn't get his tone. I'm using a tube amp (Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 401 Combo). Anyone have any suggestions where the controls should be? I know I'll never sound exactly like SRV, but I'd like to be able to emulate his sound somewhat. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks and peace!

  • @jkretch72 the overdrive should be low and the tone should be about centered, but the output should be way up. that way it really sounds overdriven without sounding like a crappy distorted metal kind of thing.

  • his tube screamer was set up weird i think because tube screamers have red lights on them, not blue. i have an original one, they don't go blue!

  • @traigogoodmusic

He's using one that was modified by Keeley Electronics. They switch out the original LED with their signature "Blue". If you look at closely at the pedal @ 2:14, you can see the blue "Keeley" label.

  • @jkretch72 thanks for the info. does it do anything else to the pedal besides changing the LED?

  • it took ten mins to stream this 3 min vid

  • Awesome tone

This is nothing like the lame expert village videos

  • His hands are where his tone is. he whipped the hell out of those strings

  • That strat is worth more than his life!!

  • "and now the the bridge pickup with the tube screamer"

and then he deactivates the pedal... :)

  • actually, all you need is texas specials. they're pick ups for your guitar that you can buy and install and you can sound exactly like srv. i just got them and i love them!

  • @srvanddoubletrouble1 I have a Texas Special Strat and they're good, but I just got some Kinman blues pickups in a different Strat and they are incredible. :D

  • are u staying in the same blues scales throughout all of that?

  • nice clip, one thing missing stevie played loud very loud even his studio music was recorded with the amps cranked. his dynamics with the volume control on his strat, and the intensity of his picking make him one of the best ever. rip

  • that was a really great vid, you actually hit some good points but more than that you nailed some of those tones and licks. kudos indeed.

  • Liked the light blue color of that strat---the antiqued white pickguard looked really nice too-----I'm a Telecaster fan but Strats are cool too---I'm just bad about accidently turning volume down as I play a Strat---it never happens when I play a Tele because of the position of the knobs on a Telecaster----I'd like a Strat with the controls of a Tele--now that'd be cool

  • I didn't know that the bridge pickup could be selected from the up most AND the lowest position on the selector switch. Check out 0:48 - 1:11 and 1:59 - 2:20

  • @Kaijisss Crazy Brits! Hahaha just kidding.

  • add some reverb and now were really ready to fuck sum shit up

  • Great Lesson, shame your neck can't support your head though :/

  • this video is about as useful as expert village video. if some one has a 60's strat and doesnt know what tuning half step down does they need to be raped

  • Steviesnacks has one of the best texas style tones on youtube...check him out

  • Epic fail on the tubescreamer tone. That was ugly as shit.

  • Seriusly, you dont need a 60s Fender strat...I bought a Mexi strat with a rosewood board...ripped out the pups and put in Tex Specials...done

  • @PIlotrcm mex strat plus tex specials...here I come - woohoo...now if you tell me I can tear open an old radio fit it with even older oven knobs and plug it in to a speaker bought at a church sale for a hymn and a prayer to make the same sound as a Fender Blues Deluxe amp I'll be impressed...ha ha ha

  • @1Ma9iN8tive

You can do that too! Just check out Mojo amps! But guitar wiring isnt to hard I highly highly recomend everyone learn to use a soldering iron and practice!! Its way more fun than just playing on it's own!

  • @PIlotrcm fantastic...I'll be researching and fiddling around with a few projects soon...looking forward to what madness I discover...cheers

  • Comment removed

  • @Danklin24 Actually...I know he is...an actually I'm gonna go and build a few of my own guitars and see what I can create...who knows a bit of fishing line and some nice wood I might just build me a monster Strat from "Oh my God That Strat Is A Monster"...ha ha ha

  • I would consider strings a part of your gear.

  • @PRSguy94 Don't forget a guitar cable...without that .....you got just an amp and a guitar

  • @PIlotrcm And don't forget your picks! And did you notice that he was using a Kelley Modded Tubescreamer? Because Stevie did not use Keeley stuff. Not that Keeley is bad, but he used stock Tubescreamers.

  • Man, Clay Aiken sure can play!

  • Will a TS9 cut the mustard or close enough to get a good SRV Tone? I have a Peavey Classic 50 212 so I would think it would do the same thing and push the amp the same. Any input? or can you just do a demo for us?

  • good video, everything clear

  • @JimiWaw37 Yeah, just shame his neck isn't strong enough to support his head :/ ...

  • No matter what the subject matter, THIS video should be the example of how to do an informative YouTube video. Everything here is perfect.

  • i'll subscribe to you simply because you can actually play a guitar. most "how to" guitar guys on youtube really arent very good.

  • What is that green pedal ? is it an Ibanez ?

  • @sweetscience85 yep a ibanez tube screamer!

  • what are the settings on the amp? i recently bought this amp but I really get a shrill sound when i turn the volume up..

    thanks.

  • I hate you. Opposite of mids! Scoop em.

  • I'm pretty sure Stevie didn't use a keeley modified Tube Screamer. And i would classify strings as a part of the gear.

  • U showed neck without ts9 then bridge with ts9, u changed 2 variables...thats not a good comparison

  • 2:14 he disengaged the pedal and get that tube screamer sound. This guy rules

  • @arioz1 No, he engaged it. He clearly says, "...with the tube screamer."

  • @n673ma the light went off dumb fuck..it's called video editing..they prob put the wrong vid in

  • @ClupeGuitar Either way, the tube screamer is what you're hearing. Why make it personal? Judging by your profile, you're just a fucking prick who likes to post petty comments. Grow up and have an intelligent, mature conversation. You should get a fucking life, pathetic cock sucker.

  • @arioz1 What a GOD, he gets the 808 sound W/O it altogether. PURE FUCKING MAGIC!!!

  • @guitarthroat is this guy one of those idiots from expert village?.....LOL

  • @arioz1 lol!

  • @arioz1

Ha, bad bit of editing there all right...LOL!

  • @arioz1 noob hahahah

  • The attack is just ridiculous lol, great tone though.

  • This dude's good but he's from Upton Upon Thelmsbury upon Thames Upon Chistlewicklenberry.. and has no hat... no hat no cred sorry

    ba bow

  • What if I want to be different and use my strat to push the rear end of my amp?

    Just sayin..

  • I saw a video hear on YouTube that described srgear and it said ts9 tube screamer

  • @55centerstage he used a ts808,ts9 and ts10.

  • If anyone cares... the tube screamer SRV used most was an original Ibanez TS-10... and back in those day "Maxon" made the inside guts of the ts'10's... so if you want a ts10 without paying 400 on ebay buy the maxon od808 for 150 new as it is the original ibanez ts-10

  • @snapascrew thk you a lot - but now i would need a strat (payable) instead of my Gibson Marauder.

  • @snapascrew Good info. Thanks.

  • you'll need 2 things to get his sound, him, and his equipment :|

  • RIP SRV

  • not only did he use 13's and tune down, he also used two to three different amps at the same time with different set up's. I don't think anyone will ever truely achieve Stevie's tone no matter how hard they try. Although I have to say that Fender made a guitar called the Toronado (I think that's right) that came pretty darn close.

  • piece a cake buddy

  • Comment removed

  • 0:56 Where this lick come from?

    Thanks

  • WHoa the sound changes suprisingly much when tuned down:I

  • th strings have to be thicker

  • Nice work man!

  • Another few things to note are that steevie had huge fingers ,used jumbo frets on his guitars , overwound single coils , and the lefty tremelo. But I think the tone is mainly down to the fingers , people say srv sounds symilar to Hendrix but Hendrix had .900 guage strings , small frets and used the amps overdrive rather the an overdrive unit , but Hendrix did also have large finger tips , so I think the tone must lie in the fingers and the way the hands are placed on the neck

  • @13Musicmachine yes fingers has something to do with it. billy gibbons has one of the best tones ever and that man doesn't have huge fingers. it's the way the notes are played and phrasing. but gear does play a large part. especially since srv used .13 gauge strings tuned down to Eb.

  • Great White Buffalo Great White Buffalo Great White Buffalo Great White Buffalo Great White Buffalo Great White Buffalo Great White Buffalo Great White Buffalo Great White Buffalo Great White Buffalo Great White Buffalo Great White Buffalo Great White Buffalo

  • exactly stevie ray hahaha....loser

  • Here is another comment from me on this video. This is what I think the secrets to his tone is. Ts-808 tube screamer, dumble steel string singer amp head, fender amp cabinet, really heavy stings, 60s' strat, big frets, and LOTS of soul.

  • @dmak111 by the way, I almost forgot. F sharp is between F and G. The note I think u meant would either be E sharp or F flat. Which to my knowledge neither of those notes exist.

  • @dmak111 I think u have just confused yourself slightly. E flat tuning is a semi-tone below E tuning. Where a whole step down would be D. There are no flat or sharp notes between E and F, or B and C. But there are between D and E. Which would be E flat. I hope I didn't confuse you if u are new to guitar. But I think if you read it a of time u will understand.

  • he said SRV played in the E Flat key. so according to music theory that i'm trying to learn, that key could also be the F sharp key? but i also thought there was no sharps of flats between E & F

  • @dmak111 Almost. It'd actually be D Sharp key. D# and Eb are enharmonic equivalents. And to elcottonball, there is an E# or B#. They're enharmonically equivalent to F and C, respectively. For musical annotation purposes, it makes sense. In an A# major scale, the notes would be A#, B# (C), C## (D), D#, E# (F), F## (G), G## (A), and returns to A#. Of course this would be cumbersome in practice, so we refer to that as a Bb scale (Bb, C, D, Eb, F, G, A, Bb). Much easier, but same scale sonically.

  • @TheFranMan ok so technically there can be sharps or flats b/w E and F. i think its funny how its perfectly sound in music theory that F# and G or A# and Gb are the same note but can come from different scales, yet they're still both the exact same note. thanks for clearing that up

  • @dmak111 Well there aren't actual notes between E and F. But F can be written as E#, just as E can be written Fb.

And technically, there are tones between E and F. But Western music really doesn't use these semitones. Those are more prevalent in world music (India, etc.). But basically for our purposes we'd never practically use a semitone (or quarter bend as ghost6392) aside from just making a slight change in sound to a note.

  • @dmak111 yes you r correct but if you bend that f# between a half step down, not the E note, like a quater step down(E flat) that should give you that E flat note. and if you apply that to any string especially in the 1st 5 frets it gives you a very bluesy type sound with the quater bend. especially when you apply the quater bend to a note followed by a pull off, it sounds beautiful.

  • it sounds great, but i hate the color of that guitar

  • "And now with the tube screamer" well you actually turns it off 2:13

  • Well done mister!!!

    Nice tone!!!

U got a tone in your arms!!

  • i need that pedal....and play thousands and thounsands of hours for play like srv

  • how about coming up with your own sound, I think the world has heard more srv and hendrix impressions than it can bear. would be nice to see guitarists do something original for a change and not have to listen to the same ole licks and sound over and over and over and over and over and over and over again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please oh lord ! let someone come up with somthing new. So with that, everyone have a nice day. Peace........

  • i totally agree with @icystratopaul
