hey Jeremy, would you say that Asus is a reputable company? and also, I would like to build a mineral oil pc for a school project, and I have a question: you used silicone adhesive around the CPU- was that just to hold the heatsink in place or was that to seal off the CPU so that the thermal grease wouldn't wash away?
well made videos, u get to the point, explain it well in detail and aren't biased like my people who claim to be tech experts out there who are obviously idoits
I'm on phase change sites where the guys reach cryogenic temperatures. One of the cheapest ideas I've seen, although not very practical, was simply burying a propane tank of water in the garden pumping the water back into the house, using the ground as a heat dump.
@phobos001 check the thermal paste between the CPU and Cooler , it might have been dried out and the direct contact between the two is generating heat and very dangerous.
*check case fan,chasis,cpu.
*dust!!
*positioning fans and creating a dynamic air flow (intake-->exhaust) (exhaust<-----intake).
@adilsokolovic12 I'm dating sciguy14 for sure! :D I have a mad crash on him after seeing his video, but I'm a guy so I'm not sure if it will turn out well.
why are there so many sciguys on youtube and places in general? where did it come from?
I just use air cooling cheapest easiest and i dont need to overclock my cpu to 5ghz or anything. Though If i had tons of money I think it would be awesome to get a koolance system, have 3 large rads external and use it to cool ur beastly processor, ram, hardrives, motherboard, videocards, and power supply :P what a waste of money but imagine how awesome that would look and overclocking capabilities :P
I'm cooling my CPU (i7-980) with a phase change/evaporator right now. It hits -65C with no load, and -40C on the highest load. Glad to see you included the problem with condensation, although you didn't mention that it occurs with Peltier as well.
Water cooling is alright, but it really needs perfect contact with the CPU otherwise it's a big loss of efficiency.
hello, i have a question... is that good idea to buy a new processor to my motherboard which is FoxConn NF4SLI7AA-8EKRS2... it has an Intel Pentium 4 3.00ghz and i want to change it for Intel Pentium D 830 3.00ghz or Intel Pentium D 930 3.00ghz... will that work fine if im going to buy one of them?
@TheKamillo666 I would reccomend saving at least 700$ and get a new quad core machine, those parts are EXTREMELY old and are running in my very old pc out in the hallway. if you need help getting your computer together private message me or a friend of yours who knows about computers a lot.
@megamindstorm101 i dont really have money now so i cant buy anything better.. but if I will I'll contact with my dad and he's gonna help me.. he knows about the komputer hardwares a lot more than me :P
I've got my computer overclocked and I've gone as far as I can with the stock cooling fan. With in a few days I'm going to get a Corsair - Hydro Series H50 CPU Cooler which will help keep the processor cool and help with trying higher overclocking. I've got a Intel i7 920 2.6 overclocked to 3.1 right now with all temps running in the low 50c's at 100%.
The first (and cheapest (unless you have to buy the vac)) thing you should imho do to cool your computer should be sucking the dust and dirt out of it. Is it making more noise then when you bought it? Is it more than a year old? The Vacuum Cleaner is your friend. Compressed Air works too if you want to pay for air.
I have a case with two 120mm fans in the front, 1 in the back, and a 200 mm fan on the top. Would it be an effective cooling method to pull in air from the front and back, then use the top to push air out?
@magicalshrimp23 Myself wouldn't recommend using the back one for taking in, as warm air rises and it's just going to flow over the I/O connections and out.. Not really worth it.
@sciguy14 besides (I am a partner too) its not the suscribers you have, its how many viewers you have with your vids, i only have 700 suscribers but a video with more than 68 000 viewers :-D
Neither heatpipes nor water cooling systems work the way described, to evaporate, the water would have to be at least 100 C and it only passes near the cpu briefly so this is rediculous. Plus the extra pressure placed on the piping would give it a short lifespan, considering the parts are made of plastic. Heatpipes do NOT contain liquid at all, they are solid metal, ie copper. The are always made of a more conductive metal than the fins it is connected to in order to send heat away with ease.
@aelitalovinchimera; Did you even watch the video? He did talk about phase-change cooling and a liquid evaporating in that process, but did not mention it in either liquid cooling or the use of heat pipes. Comment fail.
@Crimigh Watch from 3:05 he states that heatpipes contain liquid, which would would be effective if designed correctly, but you don't see them directed upwards, do you, besides, its mentioned in cooler specs often enough that they made of solid metal.
yupp all of this is true but the one thing you forgot is the theory that hot air rises so im sure having all exhausting fans at top and intake fans at bottom. like mine the front intake will be near a ac vent so it the front intake fan will pull in cooler air from it blowing it across my hard drive and into my system case :]
So basically my case window has 1 fan facing cpu and one facing gpu the gpu side fan I think is blowing the warm air comming from the back of the video card, (I think this is done for sli / crossfire) I cant figure out a way to cool the card down even just a little bit, I will consider an aftermarket cooler when there is nothing possible that I can do, Anyway awesome video I will be checking everything else you have made, nice work
Awesome video! I learned a lot. I have a thermaltake supranors case with a fan in the back exhausting air from the 2 side fans and front fan, I recently got a 9800GT EE and it runs pretty hot, I idle around 52-60 depending on room temp and fan speed and Ive seen this card get up to 75C running furmark, The hot air exhausts into the middle of my case, should I remove my side fan so it doesnt blow the hot air back in? if that makes sense at a ll, the side fan is blowing right where the heat exits
dude is it ok to use dog shit as thermal compound? i do have a 3.5 gram tube of artic silver 5 left but i want to put my dogs shit to use. it seems to be very heat conductive. sure, shit smells like shit but it seems good right?
i've got a question - i'm using an air-cooling method for my system. Going to get an aftermarket CPU cooling fan, however, since it cools my CPU better than a stock fan i.e. more hot air being blown off from my CPU -> does that mean i need to get a much more powerful exhaust fan to suck the hot air out of my casing?
Im going to upgrade my processor to the intel Q9100 and i was thinkin that this will make my laptop hotter than my processor i have now (intel t5800).. is there any way to liquid cool the processor, it has a heat sink and a fan atm but i dont mind taking them out at all or custom building anything or modding the case of laptop
I heard modular PSUs are good for less cord clutter. You only add the cords you need instead of having a bunch you don't need obstructing air flow
This may sound retarded, but I literally have a normal room fan sitting in front of my computer to push air through the intakes. If there's anything wrong with doing this let me know. I'm just desperate to cool my CPU down (they're showing temps in 60-80 C)
I recently purchased MASSCOOL Stars-700 Silver thermal grease and i was wondering what was the best method to apply it and be sure to keep my CPU cool as possible. This is my first build, I've been researching on the best method of applying thermal compound grease but haven't found one i feel comfortable with. Any Suggestions?
i just bought a hp, i noticed that the two fans on the back of my computer is expeling the air inside of the case. the bottm fan and top fan are both shooting air out. i thought the bottom fan is suppose to draw fresh air in and when the heat rises the top fan shoots the hot air out? is something wrong there?
but, how does the computer get fresh air in? i know there are holes on the side of the case, but doesnt look like thats enough to keep the inside at a stable temperature
The freon or freon alternative (the coolant in a phase change system), is a gas at room temp. It is fed to the block under presure, and the block acts as an expansion chamber. The freon or alternative expands, and (the key part of how a phase change system works), expanding gasses cool. The heat isn't carried away, the CPU is cooled by the expanding gas.(though you could make the point that cooling is nothing but displacing heat; but at that point it becomes very comlicated and very opinionated)
What about using a peltier unit between the CPU and the heat sink. This would generate energy that could be fed back into the battery on a laptop. The only problem I could see with it is the heat might not escape fast enough through the peltier unit, what if there was a liquid cooled system as well. It may not produce much power but if it lasts for another 20 mins, it must be worth it?
Laptops already have a fan just like a desktop but it's much smaller. 60 c is not too bad depending on what your running. If your running more than 2.6 ghz you might want to install an extra internal fan.
this is crazy and up most restarted I know but... Could R408 refrigerant be used in a liquid cooling loop? or would some obscene catastrophic thing happen?
what i have done is that i was cleaning out my pc, dusting, and i took out my CPU, then replaced it as it was, and now when i turn on my computer, the screen does not show up, and normally i have a beep sound before it boots windows, whats going on?
Because most of my apps are CPU centric and I can't have it being utilized by folding. And as I said, it gets much smaller packets than my GPU, and is still way way slower. Leaving my GPU on for an extra 5 minutes compensates for not using my CPU too.
can a phase change cooling unit be modified to fit inside a case and instead of cooling a cpu be used to cool a reservoir made of either aluminum or copper. from there a pump could rout the cooled liquid towards a variety of water blocks (cpu+GPU'S+RAM+HDD's+MOSFET+NB\SB)
what about useing one of those foam boxes for filling with ice to chill bear, just add you radiator from your water cooling system and some salt to lower the melting point of the water and ofcourse lots of beer and hey presto your set up for a weekend of extreme gameing.
(Begin post below) with insulator you can buy at Home Depot. Insulate the tubes going from the hole in the freezer to the hole in that your water cooling tubes go through in your PC case. Connect everything inside your PC and TA-DA, you have a sub zero cooling system. Just a heads up, if you want to cool your CPU and RAM with one loop and then your Graphics card in another, just add another pump, water basin, and radiator style pipes and you should be good to go.
You can get water cooling below your room temp. Buy a sub zero mini freezer, drill a few holes in the side of it. Put your pump and water basin in the freezer. Then buy a simple radiator pipe, preferable 1/2 Inner Diameter, connect your water cooling system to that. Route all power through previoulsy drilled hole in the side of the freezer. Then fill your water basin with whatever liquid your using, then create or buy some ice packs and fill the freezer up with them. Then insulate the tubes...
Because we removed the fan, we needed something to hold down the heatsink. However, the silicon ended up not working too well and we reattached the fan.
I use water cooling in one of my computers, and air cooling in another. I like both, but find that air cooling usually makes more sense to implement because of the price, and how difficult it is to upgrade a watercooled computer. However, water cooling is a lot of fun...
im not sure if this is to do with cooling but when i play red alert 3 it freezes im running on default its set everything to urltra high and it keeps freezing but when i moved my pc out and took the panel off the side of my pc and opened the window and let some air in and turned my room fan on i didnt have the problem anymore so i wondered if it was freezing because my computer was over heating wb please if its not that could some one give me some things that it could be
but im thinking of removing my side panel on my computer and putting a window screen kind've mesh, it lets air in easy but i dont think much else will.
because i have a pre-fab' case and i want to overclock my Q6600 to like 3.2GHz so i thought why not remove the side panel instead of more fans / new case.

It may not produce much power but if it lasts for another 20 mins, it must be worth it?
LongshanksSid 2 years ago
Heat engines are super inefficient. I doubt you could get another 20 mins.

i have a coolermaster v8
is it possible for me to uppgrade to water cooling without re overclocking my cpu, because i got my i7 920 @ 3.8 ghz
btw my mobo is a asus rampage 2 extreme

Is there any way to cool a laptop. My laptop is like 60 C so its pretty hot :( plzz tell me.
abdulz1 2 years ago
get a laptop cooling pad.
sciguy14 2 years ago
Mine's 85C :P
ikcti 2 years ago
Laptops already have a fan just like a desktop but it's much smaller. 60 c is not too bad depending on what your running. If your running more than 2.6 ghz you might want to install an extra internal fan.

yes
sciguy14 2 years ago
Oil computers have been debunked. Eventually the oil gets enough copper etc from the motherboard and other components to make it conductive.
It might take years to do it, but eventually it will short.
Not a problem if you change the oil every 6 months to so just to be sure.
acer0169 2 years ago
this is crazy and up most restarted I know but... Could R408 refrigerant be used in a liquid cooling loop? or would some obscene catastrophic thing happen?
UberPanzer666 2 years ago
How viscous is it? The pump needs to be able to handle it. And it needs to be non-corrosive.

what happened to ur pc at 8:28?

what i have done is that i was cleaning out my pc, dusting, and i took out my CPU, then replaced it as it was, and now when i turn on my computer, the screen does not show up, and normally i have a beep sound before it boots windows, whats going on?
i have an Athlon 64 x2 4400+
and an AMD motherboard, i dnt know what it is
3Gb RAM
250GB HDD

does ur cpu socket match the cpu some motherboards have a am2 socket specifically for an amd am2 cpu
slashfan401 2 years ago
its designed for it. but now it just doesnt work
04francesa 2 years ago
may be you shorted the cpu because of the static electricity in you body in otherwords its dead
slashfan401 2 years ago
nope the cpu works in another pc, but - its not workin in this motherboard. it was built for it and came with it. :S im stuck lol
04francesa 2 years ago
maybe u broke some cpu pin, or whatever u used to clean your computer had static electricity and fucked it up
thebeast239 2 years ago
Perhaps you losened some cables you had in the motherboard. If it's not beeping, check the RAM, the 8/4pin and 24/20 pin cables.

is there a way to make a resistant bag of water that u can put over your videocard?
DarkHero187 2 years ago
I have a question.
For the XFX 780i can I put a Cpu cooler on the Cpu? I've read its passive cooling
spartan7942 2 years ago
Passive cooling for the other parts of the motherboard, like the north and south bridge. You can put whatever cooler you want on the CPU.
sciguy14 2 years ago
do you fold on both your cpu and your gpu?
bestSVMS 2 years ago
GPU is about 100x faster than my CPU for folding, so I don't even bother with the CPU.
sciguy14 2 years ago
yeah, but it woul still make a big controbution
and the cpu can do the most verity of folding
if you fold on cpu, it doesnt slow down gpu folding
so why not
bestSVMS 2 years ago
Because most of my apps are CPU centric and I can't have it being utilized by folding. And as I said, it gets much smaller packets than my GPU, and is still way way slower. Leaving my GPU on for an extra 5 minutes compensates for not using my CPU too.
sciguy14 2 years ago
I run Folding@Home on my PS3, so far only folded 1 protein lol.

can a phase change cooling unit be modified to fit inside a case and instead of cooling a cpu be used to cool a reservoir made of either aluminum or copper. from there a pump could rout the cooled liquid towards a variety of water blocks (cpu+GPU'S+RAM+HDD's+MOSFET+NB\SB)
UberPanzer666 2 years ago
It's probably possible, but it would be very difficult.
sciguy14 2 years ago
uhh... have you seen a phase change unit?
I STRONGLY doubt you will even fit a good quality phase unit inside a computer case, then again... how big is the case?

what about useing one of those foam boxes for filling with ice to chill bear, just add you radiator from your water cooling system and some salt to lower the melting point of the water and ofcourse lots of beer and hey presto your set up for a weekend of extreme gameing.
eoinycroiny 2 years ago
if you feel like putting in new ice every 3 hours or so.. sure haha

NavySEAL14435 2 years ago
Yes, that would get you below room temp, but you are using a refrigerator to do so. It's not exactly standard (or convenient) water cooling.
sciguy14 2 years ago
You can get water cooling below your room temp. Buy a sub zero mini freezer, drill a few holes in the side of it. Put your pump and water basin in the freezer. Then buy a simple radiator pipe, preferable 1/2 Inner Diameter, connect your water cooling system to that. Route all power through previoulsy drilled hole in the side of the freezer. Then fill your water basin with whatever liquid your using, then create or buy some ice packs and fill the freezer up with them. Then insulate the tubes...
NavySEAL14435 2 years ago
and also, where did u learn how to use adobe premiere, did you just mess around with it alot

why did you put silicon around the cpu???
brandonvalera 2 years ago
Because we removed the fan, we needed something to hold down the heatsink. However, the silicon ended up not working too well and we reattached the fan.

soulfinderz 2 years ago
what is your favorite cooling system. what does you use
fwjensen 2 years ago
I use water cooling in one of my computers, and air cooling in another. I like both, but find that air cooling usually makes more sense to implement because of the price, and how difficult it is to upgrade a watercooled computer. However, water cooling is a lot of fun...
sciguy14 2 years ago
very nice video thanks for the info
gamefreak101792 2 years ago
im not sure if this is to do with cooling but when i play red alert 3 it freezes im running on default its set everything to urltra high and it keeps freezing but when i moved my pc out and took the panel off the side of my pc and opened the window and let some air in and turned my room fan on i didnt have the problem anymore so i wondered if it was freezing because my computer was over heating wb please if its not that could some one give me some things that it could be
synveng 2 years ago
sounds like overheating to me... Try getting something like speedfan and monitoring your temperatures while you play.
sciguy14 2 years ago
Ok this is an question about liquid cooling.
Is an single liquid cooling unit able to run 2 waterblocks like an cpu waterblock and a gpu water block???
Thnx for answering,
everybodykillerz 2 years ago
yes.
sciguy14 2 years ago
btw can you do the next tech bits episode about (RAM) and memory??
everybodykillerz 2 years ago
It's already on my list, but it's not the next episode.
sciguy14 2 years ago
sorry if this sounds like DUMB question lol.
but im thinking of removing my side panel on my computer and putting a window screen kind've mesh, it lets air in easy but i dont think much else will.
because i have a pre-fab' case and i want to overclock my Q6600 to like 3.2GHz so i thought why not remove the side panel instead of more fans / new case.
anything go wrong if i would do that you think?
