I use photoshop, and love it. I never said this method was better than photoshop. this is just a free alternative.

This has nothing to do with your video editor. You capture the frames with your frame-grabber, edit them like I show here, then stitch them to a movie file. What editor you use makes no diference.

Get a Mac, and then get IStopMotion, its pretty cheap and it works great.

That has to be one of the most tedious methods you could possibly use. :) But you have the basic concept down. The number one thing that will help you get a consistent background so there's no variation from the clean plate is if you make sure you turn off auto exposure and auto focus on your camera.
