4. What you were attempting to create is a color difference key. Those are better built by separating the green or blue channel and subtracting it from the other two channels. to make your mask. you get more control.
Actually using the screen was a better idea than you thought--It's already perfectly lit. With a real bluescreen you have to work on the lighting a lot to make sure the sheet is evenly lighted.

Thanks, I'll give this a try. By the way you can fix the blue edge on the bird by using the dilate/erode node.
