  • Thank you for posting this, my lovely mum ( from Newry , Northern Ireland ) passed away in 2009, she allways sung this, we played this at her funeral.

  • I haven't heard this song in years. Can anybody tell me if it was in memory of Terence McSwiney, Lord Mayor of Cork who died on hunger strike in Brixton Prison in 1920, or more generally in honour of any Irish patriots who died in Brixton in that period?

  • @kiemur1 Yes, my father, who was stationed post Civil War in Cork with the Guards told me it was in memory to Terence McSweeney, RIP.

  • @GlasgowCeltic88 Yes, it is wonderful and this tune is a lovely, and a very fitting tribute to the young Kevin Barry who was so brave and true. I took pics of his grave at Glasnevin last year.

    Totally agree,wonderful song, I have no doubt you know that Terence Macswiney

    was Lord Mayor of Cork,arrested on charges of sedition and imprisoned in Brixton prison,where he died after a 74 day hunger strike.
