Thank you for posting this, my lovely mum ( from Newry , Northern Ireland ) passed away in 2009, she allways sung this, we played this at her funeral.
if you dont see this song as just a beutiful song as( it is) they obviously are more intrested inn politics than music so why listen to music at all, if you are more conserned about polititis than music
I haven't heard this song in years. Can anybody tell me if it was in memory of Terence McSwiney, Lord Mayor of Cork who died on hunger strike in Brixton Prison in 1920, or more generally in honour of any Irish patriots who died in Brixton in that period?
@GlasgowCeltic88 Yes, it is wonderful and this tune is a lovely, and a very fitting tribute to the young Kevin Barry who was so brave and true. I took pics of his grave at Glasnevin last year.
thanks for that lovely kind message GC 88, my friend MADFORTRAD recorded me singing this song last nite, he will upload it later, its a lovely song.. Go Raibh Maith Agat.... Paddy Mangan Co Kildare Ireland
gives me goosebumps. brave men they were.

Some Brits asked me how to resolve the northern Ireland issue. I responded, "Well, to start, you can get the fuck off our island."

@kiemur1 Yes, my father, who was stationed post Civil War in Cork with the Guards told me it was in memory to Terence McSweeney, RIP.

Great song, lyric and patriotism. I am not an Irish but I was in South Ireland back in 1985. I like the people and the country.

As a Dutchman I choose this song on my funeral. Deep inside I feel like a Irishman.
Don't know why just do.
