Hello! I've been making yogurt for several years now and I have found that paper towels work really well for straining the yogurt for cheese. You can put a few layers and the cheese (when done) just folds right off unlike the cheesecloth that can be sticky. Thanks for the detailed info. I enjoy your site!
Very good explanation of terms. Glad to see you are using low tech appliances to create this rather than tell your public to go out and buy another thing that is specialized and sits on the shelf, i.e.rice cookers. Looking forward to the next video. Very good idea about stretching the peanut butter with yogurt, very smart.
I've heard that you can divi up your tub of store bought 'starter' into 1/2 cup measures and freeze them for use with your next batch. Does that work or will freezing kill off all the good stuff you're trying to keep?
Hi Crystal, I love making yogurt this way, but found with powdered milk the yogurt had a 'grainy' taste, so looking forwards to seeing how you do it. I used to use a slow cooker but now I just use a thermos ( wide mouthed), and find that works just as well ( but takes over night). One advantage you didnt mention is we found home made yogurt will last longer then shop bought yogurt (usually doesnt as its eaten!lol).
The 'small pot' commercial one you showed is being pushed all the time in the UK
