The WeatherSTAR 4000 is a computer system that generated local forecasts for TWC cable headends from 1990 until 1999. However, a few cable companies (like mine) still use the 4000today because they can't afford an XL (1999-2004) or IntelliSTAR (featured in this video). The WeatherSTAR Junior (Jr for short) is a LF used by some cable companies who can't afford an IntelliSTAR, XL, or even a 4000. If your LF has the same graphics as the one in this video, you have an IntelliSTAR.
Just so's you know, I have watched TWC play the Day Part less and less often over the past year or so, despite my numerous e-mails to them via the form on their site. I have family cable in my area so I don't think it's my equipment.
Watch the video above - it looks exactly the same! Same graphics, everything. Watch for the "Getaway" segment of the forecast - in my area the Local on the 8s goes from "Getaway" to either "School Day Forecast"(as it does here) and then to the forecast or directly from Getaway to the forecast. Basically it skips the "Day Part" segment shown here.
This is the United States, right? Am I not asking the question "What the heck are these things" in English?
I have plain old FAMILY CABLE via Cablevision is southern Connecticut. No satellite, no dishes, etc. My equipment - basically 20 feet of cable and a TV set - has NOTHING to do with why they don't show the Day Part in this area!
A WeatherSTAR is the computer the weather channel uses to display the forecasts. The Weatherstar Junior is a simple, text based system with a purple background. The Weatherstar 4000 is a system with fairly simple graphics and icons. The Weatherstar XL is a more advanced system that's similar to the intellistar. And the intellistar (what you see here) is the most commonly used system. If you do a search on youtube for any of the weatherstars mentioned above, you'll see what they look like.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH now you're talking!
So this is TWC equipment we're discussing here. So I guess my area was upgraded to the more advanced XL system which eliminates the "Day part".
Sucks to be me!
Thanks for the clarification - I didn't mean to get mad, but if you had said this was Weather Channel's equipment I would have gotten it. :)

And this is unavailable. You can get it by sending him 25 bucks for the CD sets for forecasts. And this is a screwup
