Videos like this shouldn't be posted to youtube. I would have euthanized him immediately with a good ol' 9mm Colt. Nature ain't perfect. Gotta do what you gotta do. Glad that you got him to the vet without getting hurt, that would have been a mess!
It would of fixed it self after few months, the brain is still developing, the vet is an idiot for euthanizing it. The neurons would heal itself because its still undergoing cerebral development.
@vodka492 She would have killed herself in an hour. She was biting her paws, tail, cracking her teeth. She even prolapsed her rectum. The condition was getting worse, not better.
@vodka492 Very critical condition... Might be if took attention earlier some sedatives could help.. but it aslo problem with laws out ther. In some states a law orders to kill and send head for study in case of any agression, unusual beaviour or just even if skunk sprayed human :(
@JunkTide23 lol humans do have a tail, it just doesnt protrude out like most animals. if you hurt your "tail bone", you are literally hurting your tail bone.
This is a very sad video, but I'm thankful that you posted it. This is not normal for these animals and its good for people to know the difference between healthy and not healthy...
How did this skunk contract the rabies? Was it born with it from its mother or did it get bitten? I have a baby skunk about 5 weeks old and Im trying to find out when they start to show symptoms if they contracted it in the womb
@My0089475 Skunk did not have rabies. It would be extremely rare for a baby skunk to have rabies. If mom had rabies when she was pregnant, the babies would most likely not have been born.
@Marycummins I was honestly just curious as to why you would post something like this. It seemed cruel, but I never thought of the research/diagnosis side of it. Thanks for explaining it like a rational person instead of flaming like others.

...You know what. I've seen a couple of your videos and I just don't like you. The skunk was slow so it deserves to be euthanized? Do you euthanize children with autism ? Some fucking animal activist you are.
@LemmyPants1 The skunk was not "slow." She tried to kill herself and almost did. She prolapsed her rectum spraying herself. She bit her paws viciously, attacked her tail until she ripped skin and fur off, broke her teeth biting the door of the pet carrier.
@LemmyPants1 Do autism children attack themselves? This baby skunk was neurological, not "slow". Perhaps you should read descriptions and think before you type something so ignorantly rude.

poor thing, its too bad she wasn't able to get better =( but you cant help neurological problems..its a shame she was never able to be released back into the wild =(
@MrFlyingZebras I initially thought the skunk was temporarily frightened. Within 15 minutes of this video the skunk got worse so I immediately took her to the vet. The vet said it looked like rabies so they euthanized her. I would not let a dying animal suffer.
@MaryCummins no you did the right thing. I was talking to the unfeeling asshole that said it should be left outside to die as nature intented. I would have directly responded to them but I was using my ipod.
Stupid people thinking this is funny, you know what? How about I come into your home, shoot you, and laugh as I see you squirming in pain? Thats basicly what you guys are doing. Except you aren't shooting the poor thing.
@JonnieBoi05 People who think suffering animals are something to be laughed at often have something neurologically wrong with them themselves. You should get checked out... say, for a antisocial disorder... Freak.
I wonder what would have happened if her tail was amputated. It's clear that she suffers from some kind of body identity disorder where she thinks that her tail is not part of her body. :(
I wonder what would have happened if her tail was amputated. It's clear that she suffers from some kind of body identity disorder where she thinks that her tail is not part of her body.
@BioChemicalMachine Her problem went beyond that. She also attacked her paws and legs. She got ten times more violent than this video in the next half hour before I had her put down. There was something very wrong with her from the very start. Her mom didn't want her. Other skunks didn't want to be near her. She was very slow and uncoordinated even though she was bigger than the other babies. Sad.
@fivedollerfootlong now, now... be nice. she is not keeping the skunk in the bathtub, obviously she just had her in the tub to easily show the skunk and educate others about the situation. many people temporarily put their pets in a bathtub or cage to keep them safe while they are cleaning the pet's cage.
@Sevion777 yes, you're right that wild animals should NEVER, EVER be pets. it's not safe for people or animals, however there are domesticated skunks that make great pets. :)
when wild animals are rescues they're not considered pets. i'm not sure what the situation is with this person but my mother has a permit to rescue and rehabilitate wild animals that are brought to us that have been orphaned. once they're old enough my mom sends them to the wild.
@GeneralTampon I am a licensed and permitted wildlife rehabilitator. It's in my profile. I take in ill, injured and orphaned wildlife for release back to the wild. If they cannot be released, they are kept and used for education.
@MaryCummins that's awesome! my mom does the same thing, it's a lot of hard work but so worth it. i'm so happy to see others who care about animals. thanks for sharing your videos. i look forward to seeing more. :)
and sorry to see your lil skunk was so sick. i bet that was hard for you.
No, you must be mistaken jk. Schlager1983cfh says it was a bad owner so I'm sure he/she must have some personal knowlege of the situation the rest of us don't. Sadly he/she has chosen to remain silent rather than enlighten the rest of us. You know, every time an animal is in pain, it must be because of some awful human activity.
Lady chill out!! I'm on your side. Are you that thick? I tried to make my sarcasm obvious for you. I was mocking Schlager1983cfh who claimed this was due to a bad owner. Notice my coments are preceeded by "@Schlager1983cfh". It's clear from MaryCummins comments that this poor skunk is suffering from a birth defect. Sheesh!
lmfao, I have asperger's syndrome, not my fault.But with saying one thing but meaning the opposite, im more efficient with saying what i mean and meaning what i say. Sounds like you need to take a chill pill and not be so pissy when someone dosnt understand what the hell you are saying.
Just pay attention to the "@" and you will know when someone is responding to a comment as opposed to commenting on the video. If you know you have trouble understanding a persons meaning then maybe shouldn't be so quick to call someone ignorant.
i need help please! :( my grandma has a cat who was saposedly showing nerological signs (not violent but the 'down' kind). it was walking around in circles, dehydrated and panting like a dog, has puffy red eyes with one that suddenly went off-set, and shows signs of being nearly blind, like walking into walls and such. also its very jumpy to loud noises. my gramps got scratched by it, and theyre charging us $500+ to get it checked for rabies. is it worth getting the cat checked?
skunks are not the most common animal to have rabies. There was a rabies scare and they thought skunks would be the dominant carier, but its more so the racoon, among other animals more than the skunks. Its one reason most domesticated skunks have a bad rap sheet, even though most dont have rabies.
Mary, if you had to guess what this skunk had, what would your guess be?

I thinnk your showing neurological symptoms for keeping a fucking skunk in a bathtub in its own feces, sick fucker.
fivedollerfootlong 1 year ago
@fivedollerfootlong now, now... be nice. she is not keeping the skunk in the bathtub, obviously she just had her in the tub to easily show the skunk and educate others about the situation. many people temporarily put their pets in a bathtub or cage to keep them safe while they are cleaning the pet's cage.

what does euthanized mean?
123melros 1 year ago
@123melros euthanized means they had to kill (normally by a shot from the vet) the pet because it was unsafe to others and itself.
GeneralTampon 1 year ago
@GeneralTampon
find another pet, i see why ppl resque them, but i think there is thousands of better pets that u can get..this is not one of them !
Sevion777 1 year ago
@Sevion777 yes, you're right that wild animals should NEVER, EVER be pets. it's not safe for people or animals, however there are domesticated skunks that make great pets. :)
when wild animals are rescues they're not considered pets. i'm not sure what the situation is with this person but my mother has a permit to rescue and rehabilitate wild animals that are brought to us that have been orphaned. once they're old enough my mom sends them to the wild.
GeneralTampon 1 year ago 2
@GeneralTampon I am a licensed and permitted wildlife rehabilitator. It's in my profile. I take in ill, injured and orphaned wildlife for release back to the wild. If they cannot be released, they are kept and used for education.

@MaryCummins that's awesome! my mom does the same thing, it's a lot of hard work but so worth it. i'm so happy to see others who care about animals. thanks for sharing your videos. i look forward to seeing more. :)
and sorry to see your lil skunk was so sick. i bet that was hard for you.

Damn junkie owners!

@schlager1983cfh
Really? Since you're the expert, tell us what the owner did wrong so we can be sure not to repeat the same mistakes.
Scurvous 1 year ago
@Scurvous
lmfao!
jesus, things just happen in nature, just like with humans....
hop1pop 1 year ago
@hop1pop

@hop1pop
Sheesh!
Scurvous 1 year ago
lmfao, I have asperger's syndrome, not my fault.But with saying one thing but meaning the opposite, im more efficient with saying what i mean and meaning what i say. Sounds like you need to take a chill pill and not be so pissy when someone dosnt understand what the hell you are saying.
hop1pop 1 year ago
@hop1pop

Probably a parasitic infection. Roundworms such as Baylisascaris can cause neurological disorders.

I feel so bad for her....
NoRFairs98 2 years ago 2
skunks are not the most common animal to have rabies. There was a rabies scare and they thought skunks would be the dominant carier, but its more so the racoon, among other animals more than the skunks. Its one reason most domesticated skunks have a bad rap sheet, even though most dont have rabies.
