Public transportation isn't all that great here but so far I've been able to get everywhere I need to go through public transportation. I would say it isn't hard to get used to your surroundings. DTLA is actually in the LA Basin. The San Fernando valley does get a little hot though, but great thing about LA weather is, it often cools down at night and u have ocean breezes rolling in so it's not as muggy as Florida or Texas. We don't get snow in the city, but we do get that in the mountains nearby. We do have a subway. Not as extensive as NYC but that's like comparing oranges and apples. LA is HUGE geographically. LA has lots of opportunities if u find it and you'll never get bored.
