I find it interesting that reggae is such a major part of current Ethiopian pop music. Which leads me to ask, since I know little of the history of reggae, is reggae based on Ethiopian music or is it something that got picked up in Ethiopia and adapted to native musical traditions? The rythm of Amharic seems well-suited to reggae.
