I would rather Regiment play the best shows every year and have the fans (and the alumni) love the show than the judges love us. I joined the Regiment because of the raw emotion and musicality. Maybe those things don't get you points on the judge's sheets (Cesario is changing that, hehe), but I don't care. The Regiment will always be true to its roots and that's why I love and respect it and all those affiliated with it. SUTA
Yeah, there's something very silky, rich, and irresistible about their sound that makes you swell with pride at something you're merely a spectator of. It's awesome.
@MHSTrumpetLine nah you're not dumb, i went to my first DCI show last july and as far as music and sound goes Phantom and Carolina Crown sound the best...im more a fan of Phantoms sound. They're the only group to make my mouth drop when they all starting playing aha
i love phantom. and want to audition this year. but ive heard several bad stories about how they treat the corps. someone compared it to a military boot camp. someone who has marched phantom recently please elaborate, cause i really hope this is just bs from 2 guys who did cavis and bluecoats.. :/
@herbett234 I haven't marched corps, but you have to expect hard work to get to the high standards Phantom sets. A little rookie hazing isn't unheard of anywhere, but I would guess that your friends are just jealous because their corps, though impressive, can't hold a candle to Phantom's musical (and in my opinion, marching) capabilities.
Sparticus has to be one of the top shows ever by any corps. My favorite Phantom closer was 1978's Elsa Processional, which i understand they are playing again in 2011!
amazing timbre difference between the first two clips... G vs. Bb, probably the best comparison I have heard. Clip #1: Corps Sound Clip #2: Brass Band Sound.
@Marchingfreak123 not to mention the best opening hit ever, and coming from a Crown fan that says a lot! (Don't worry Phantom is a very very close second)
@nikesb97 lmao every drum corps is all brass and percussion no woodwinds they are weak and quiet and their sound doesnt travel like a brass instrument
Every time a group other than Phantom wins, I get aggravated, because they are infinitesimally more musical than any other corps. Not only that, but they're consistent from year to year, improving all the time. Phantom is irrefutably the best in the biz, their horn line destroying all futile resistance with equally clean drill as the other major DCI bands. and I would jizz my pants if I got to meet the Phantom trumpet line...
4:34 to the end gave me straight up goosebumps. i love phantom and their 2008 show. and their 2003 show too, especial cause my marching band is playing it this year
That was great! Thanks for posting it. Heading back in time even further - 1989 and 1991 were spectacular seasons for Phantom as well. What a great corps! So many amazing moments like the crab wedge of 1993-94.
But I have to say... Any compilation like this HAS to have Regiment 89' and 93'. Those years are legendary.... New World Symphony in 89. Fire of Eternal Glory and Death Hunt in 93.... I get shivers thinking about them...
nice.... but NO "Best of" is COMPLETE unless you include their 1976 TOCATTA and FUGUE in D MINOR in it. THAT was SOOOOOOOOO BAD......NOBODY has played it SINCE
I thought Phantom should have won in 2005, just from personal preference. Cadets and Cavies didn't do anything for me that year. In fact, I quite hated "The Zone".

@X5Y0Z3 Harmonic Journey is a whole lot better than Spartacus. Spartacus was good and action packed, no doubt, but the true Phan has to agree, '03 all the way.
@Matthewbk21 actually, I think many true phans would have to disagree with you there, 2003 does not come close to the best year. I can think of 5 other shows that were better.
Ain't it great that we can argue over dozens of great moments from ONE CORPS !!! Probably no other group has given fans more reasons to jump up out of their seats than Phantom - Santa Clara gives us magic, Blue Devils blows you away with technical brilliance, Cadets amaze you with what 150 humans can do together, but Phantom goes for the SOUL !!! Great clip tytzer- do your self a favor and listen to 1980 and feel the agony in the last push from Carmen suite- you'll see what I mean
Hmph.. I know what you mean. And I've already been listening to the 1980's. I don't care what the others have to say but Phantom will be one of my favorite corps. AND THEIR NOT OVERRATED LIKE WHAT MOST PPL SAY! THOSE PPL CAN GO SCREW THEM SELVES!

This vid is more like Phantom Regiment show in the last ten years, whether they're any good or not. '04 and '05 were not good years. I'm a huge Phantom fan, but some years (like '09) are just not good.
@ThePhantomphan11 A drum corp show that is "not good" does not exist. There are better and best. Any show in an "off" year is still technically amazing and top notch. A "good" year really just blows your mind.
'09 is an enigma, but it was still musically brilliant. It just lacked the Spartacus emotion and a Top 5 Visual program.
Ending from harmonic journey is the most badass ending in drum corps history. And harmonic journey the best show ever. I mean they played canon in the show. that alone makes it awesome.
great video, but lots of moments from older shows deserve recognition: '78 (would have won first championship if not for penalty), '81/'82 (original spartacus), and WITHOUT A DOUBT '89 (new world), '91 (dreams of desire), '93 (fire and the original wedge crab) and '06 (faust)
