If she received a severe Catholic education she must know it, it´s not something casual (even though singing to a lucky star is a popular tune, i guess). She probably was thinking about her mother when she wrote this song. The night can represent the tribulations of life. Ok, maybe I´m seeing things they don´t exist, but it´s just my interpretation.
