She had a romance with Bing Crosby, reportedly they never married because she refused to convert to Catholicism. Apparently she was devastated when he married Katherine Grant. At the time of her death she was to start a new series on television. She was replaced but in the promos they showed you could tell it was Inger Stevens in the distance.
There is alot of evidendce to support the fact that Inger Stevens was murdered(1)she had just signed on to star in a new tv show and was according to friends thrilled about dating Burt Reynolds. The Jones thing was way back...a mistake. It was suspected someone force fed her pills, knocked her around, and then left her to die...a jealous person(OJ wriiten all over it) Read the book "The Farmers Daughter or investigate the facts of the case online....she was likely murdered!!
@markleerook She had tried to commit suicide before. In 1959 Ms. Stevens drank ammonia and took sleeping pills. She barely survived. She got blood clots in her legs which could have moved to her brain or heart and was blind for weeks after this attempt. Inger Stevens had a long documented history of depression and, as the biography mentions, fell in love with several of her co-stars which led to these black periods. She was beautiful and very talented. I seriously doubt she was murdered.
Great job! Your commentary and video so eloquently captures what the Inger website also tries to convey: she was so unique an individual; no wonder we still miss her and think of her so many years later...Thanks!
In 1968, I fell in love with Inger - at age ten :-) She was so refined, and elegent , with a voice as soft as velvet and as gentel as a warm summer breeze. I do so miss the sparkel in her eyes -and her mischiveous grin. Forever my hart belongs to Inger.
I'm only 28 and recently bought "Hang Em' High" I thought Inger was so so pretty and a very good actress for her time. I'm sure having to hide Ike added to her depression. To die at 35 is so dman tragic.
Inger Stevens !! I had such a crush on her when I was young! My girlfriend is from Sweden and she reminds me of Inger Stevens ! She was so awsom and is missed
There was a show hosted by A.J. Benza (he also was a columnist) called E's True Hollywood Story, in it they did a piece on Inger Stevens an they said Bert Reynolds did visit her on the night of her suicide. They had dinner and then he left.
I'm surprised they did not mention her role in the film The New Interns, in which she played a social worker who became George Segal's girlfriend. In the film she was gang raped, and later had a complete psychological breakdown because of it. She was fantastic in the movie.
I remember that "Is it true blondes have more fun?" commercial very well - "If I've only one life, let me live it as a blonde" spoken in Swedish and then in English. At the time, I wondered if she really could speak Swedish or if it was just put on.
You should've mentioned that her second husband was black, which was why that marriage was never publicized. Interracial relationships were socially unacceptable, as well as actually illegal, in a number of states then.
yes, should've mentioned secret husband was black - and it would've been nice if her movie "the guide for the married man" had been mentioned. other than that, that was a nicely done, abbreviated bio. really nice job!!
Well done! A very interesting and succinct report with some intriguing video footage.
After reading Deana Martin's reference to a "more than casual" relationship between her father, Dean Martin, and Inger (in Deana's book "Memories are Made of This", I was curious to learn a little more about this actress. Your mini-biography fit the bill! Thank you.
lOVED Inger as a child. Did not know she committed suicide. What a shame. There are shades of Marilyn's vulnerability in her. Today she could be treated for depression. Sorry she left us so soon.
Yes, TODAY there is help--- but what a sad story for Inger! I don't think depression was fully understood then, even by most doctors. And socially, I'm sure that admitting to having depression / seeking treatment / or taking medication for it carried a certain stigma, especially for a public figure like
Well it's time you discover the great stars of the past; they were in a class all their own, unlike today's Hollywood trash, all of whom are a dime a dozen.
Good job! Thanks Baybea. I hope there is a continuing increase of interest in Inger. I used to watch the Farmer's Daughter as a boy. There was always something about Inger as a person that I liked. I think the beauty of her soul matched her physical beauty. Just love her. Wish they would bring back more of her TV/films - Borgia Stick for instance.
Thanks For This Wonderfull Mini-Bio But Her Friends And I Don´t Belive That She Committed Suicide. Sure, She Had Her Hard Times Like Many Others From Us But She Learned From That ... Miss Stevens Was Sensitive AND Strong. In Her Last Weeks She Was Happy, Had A New Series And A Bright Future... And Ike Jones? He´s Love For Her Was Gone. He Wanted Only Her Money, Slapped Her... Inger Was Afraid And Wan´t A Divorce...
i recognized her face once you added the movie stills. oh my, what a sad life story she had. so beautiful yet so troubled. well done, bea. i hope you keep doing these.
I enjoyed this mini bio. I remember watching the Farmer's Daughter when I was young and loved it. What a sad end to her life, I never realised she committed suicide. A very beautiful woman in life.
I think a lot of actresses today are guilty of falling in love with their co-stars - Julia Roberts and Penelope Cruze to name a couple. I used to watch that show when I was little. Am I aging myself? haha Great bio Bea!! xo Judy
yep, you and anyone else who remembers the Farmer's Daughter hehe. We are an aging society and one of the largest that will become senior citizens in the next 5 - 10 yrs.
That was a nice one Bea. It had been a long time since I had heard anything about her...didn't remember how she died. It's all choices we make!!..Hope you are doing better....love, Sherry
It is choices and karma and who knows what else drives us to do what we do :) I think, there isn't one soul on earth who doesn't have a story to tell about their lives.
Bing Crosby was a bastard in his personal life add Bob Hope to that as well...She was part of a lot of hollywood babylon dysfunction and men took advantage of her too bad a Dr.Drew of his day could not help her. Today we have our Britney and Paris and they are used and abused and abuse themselves...they actually need Dr. Drew now!
I grew up in Manhattan Kansas and have a friend that claims she was her babysitter when she was young. Do you know if she ever lived in Manhattan, Kansas xoxoxoxoxo
yes, she lived there as a kid all the way through her teen years. :) Then, when her father and wife moved away, she moved into her friends home and stayed there while working and teaching dance classes and modelling.

She was fabulous...intense...luminous...acted with every fiber of her being....the female James Dean....
the lady narrating this has to be Scandinavean American like Inger--I'm hearing the accent ---cuz I'm one myself!
