@shoedoctor99 All the 4 madhabs say it is totally haram. Stop following your whims and desires. Stop following the kuffar. The Prophet sallAlahu alayhi wa salaam said that in the the Last Hour there would be people from his Ummah who would seek to make musical instruments lawful. A'UDHU BILLAH!

I would say that is a good enough point - in the hadith the prophet (sallelillahoaleyhiwasalam) encouraged singing - as i'm sure you'll agree 'singing is musical - i.e. sounds organised over time' therefore how can music be Haram? I appreciate that we should concenrate on furthering ourselves, however that arguement can be extended to many things.
"And of mankind is he who purchases idle talk to mislead (men) from the Path of Allaah, without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allaah, the Verses of the Qur'aan) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire)." [Luqmaan 31:6]
Most of the scholars interpreted lahw al-hadeeth ("idle talk") as meaning singing and musical instruments, and every voice that diverts people from the truth.

Ibn 'Abbas said, " 'Aishah gave a girl relative of hers in marriage to a man of theAnsar. The Prophet (peace be on him) came and asked, 'Did you send a singeralong with her?' 'No,' said 'Aishah. The Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) then said, The Ansar are a people who love poetry. You should have sent along someone who would sing, 'Here we come, to you we come, greet us as we greet you.' " (Reported by Ibn Majah.)
that man spoke rubbish, I have been to a conservatoire and watched a pianist play and no one was drinking or dancing. I'm also pretty sure that the wives of the prophet sallelillaho aleyhi wa salam used to speak with men etc. Gangsta rap is no more representative of music than suicide bombers are of islam or muslims - these are not black and white issues
The prophet SAW made it haram, and the companions had consensus on it. it's strange that u attack the Islamic ruling and defend Gangsta rap. And what does speaking with men have to do with anything?don't talk about Allah's religion without knowledge please.
It is not yet an islamic ruling, scholars are split on whether music is haram. I am not attacking islam I am questioning an arguement - Muhammad (sallelillahoaleyhi wa salam) spoke of reasoning and questioning - you obviouly didn't pay much attention to the video or my comments - at what point did I defend gangsta rap? Please don't talk about Allah's religion without thinking please, Fii aman allah
U r right i didn't read ur comments carefully, sorry. But realize this; there is no 'split' on the issue. Where did u get this from? Isn't it enough for u that the COMPANIONS never disagreed on this issue? Have you even heard the lecture? Then why argue? We never question Islamic rulings, we try to understand the wisdoms behind them. Now for the last time PEACE! Listen to the lecture and then we can talk.
Just because you say there isn't a split doesn't mean it's true - THE GUY GIVING THE LECTURE SAID THERE IS A SPLIT - I don't need to listen to it again - We do question islamic rulings as that is how they became rulings in the first place and how they develop - you haven't listened to the lecture or read my comments please brother i am not attacking you or islam. I would prefer to discuss the subject and come to the conclusion rather than take this guys messy arguement ma assalama
I give up with you.Everyone thinks they are an expert on Islam. This is an ad for an event and not the entire lecture. Go ahead and listen to music I don't care. No one has to follow any opinion of any scholar if there are authentic hadiths saying it's haram. But go ahead and listen to your pianists. The only messy argument is in your brain.

It was reported in a saheeh hadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "In my ummah there will be people who allow fornication/adultery (zina), silk, wine and musical instruments [ma'aazif].
