She made the "You won't mind if I say" version to put on her CD because some people might take offense to the original lyrics.
it's like in James Blunt's "You're Beautiful" Song. The actual lyrics are "she could see from my face that I was f***ing high" but the censored radio version says "Flying high"

In most small towns in the south (I am assuming this takes place in the south) gay people are not exactly welcomed with open arms, especially if the town is small enough so lying to her friends to get revenge on her boyfriend by claiming he was gay so then he'd be embarrassed is kind of not so good cause she's kind of stating that you should be embarrassed if someone tells people you are gay because it is not accepted in her circle of friends which pretty much means being gay isn't all right.
