I think some players do talk about how much they like niche games like for instance 3s (Before this new revival) and Guilty Gear and even Arcana. There are streams for this. Sure this isn't japan with arcades like Mi-Ka-Do and having these under played games but they do exist.

Loli fighters do suck (mostly because the visuals are bad mechanics, i.e. the fighters don't represent things that look like they could hurt you) but you still have Accent Core, VF5, and KOFXI, all of which are mechanically superior to SF4.
@Mightfox Sure they have accessories that could hurt you (also, accessories that their Olive Oyl frames shouldn't handle) but there's a reason Demolition Man starred Sylvester Stallone and not Mary Kate Olsen and that's what I'm getting at.

If big upsets like Fuudo (mainly a Virtua Fighter playeR) winning Evo 2k11 don't get the community into other games, I'm really not sure what will.

With the small exception of Tekken and MK9, surprisingly (or unsurprisingly, depending on your take) you don't see KOF, BB, Arcana Heart and etc. getting the sheer amount of exposure that Capcom games do. But then again, it seems that time and time again, Americans aren't very willing to try new things at all. (See Universal Health Care)

This is about what makes what we enjoy exciting and interesting being marginalized for profit and mass appeal at the expense of quality and soul.
I wonder how many of the top players are interested in KOF13. Should be interesting to see how well that does in the states, especially if its rebalance and netcode(supposedly modified GGPO) is as good as it seems.
