I had never heard anything of Whitney Houston until she butchered this beautiful song of Dolly's. Rest in peace and all that, but don't remember Houston for this song, as it's not hers. However, I'm sure Dolly appreciated the royalties she earned from Houston's version.
A RIP to Whitney... I always thought Dolly's version of this was the superior version of this song. I always start to choke and tear up at the 2:04 point when Dolly starts "talking".
Not that anyone is actually following this stream anymore but Dolly wrote this song about Porter Wagner, her first love. Whitney sucked the life out of it years later. Dolly will always rock this song better, even though Whitney sang it well!
A different version to the one I have but still far superior to Whitney Houstons, Much more emotion and not just trying to pack as many notes into it as possible
I love this song. It makes me cry everytime I here it.

Whitney's version started off great but then she ruined it.

Dolly wrote this sweet little sad song and no one has done it better. It's an intimate song, not a big bombastic anthem. Thank you Dolly!

Have loved Dolly's original of this song since hearing it for the first time in 1974. She is an amazing woman.

@teendude16 Indeed. SHe's super young on that album cover. At that time she probably didn't know she'd later have boobs as big as her hair.

@nauort23 Haha thanks. I never really thought I had much of an accent. You should hear the backwoods Canadian hicks. Now there's an accent!
