one of my family exploited in jermals for almost 2 years around 15years ago.the children paid, but actually cannot go home.they faced several violence, slavery n also sexual abused. fortunately one of the child escape using a jerrycan, floated away in the sea and finally stranded in medan.the boy's family ask the cop to arrest the boss and release all the children.so sad to know this evil repeate again.Where r u law? do the boss tempted u to keep silence?
I am from Indonesia and actually I know these underaged children stopped going to school cos they don't like school and said to their mom: "I want to work and make money". The factor is not only because they are poor but also because the underaged kid himself does not want to go to school. Of course it is not necessarily the case every time, but it sometimes does happen like that... :(
Its amazing how the europeans never highlight the abuse & destruction which they caused around the world. This is just a result of that. Industrialization has been the key to greedy, malicious, pyschopathic people exploiting the resources of the so called 3rd world for gain in the west. Lets not forget western countries still have a stronghold on all 3rd world & developing countries. They determine who will rise and who will remain destitute.
Indonesia is still such a 'young' country as compared to the western world & its 'civilized' standards. I believe nobody in Indonesia would like things to happen this way. School is not open and free, without jobs, kids often end up to live on the streets. Any change cannot be made exclusively.
They should rise up and kill that old man.. I guess its not as bad as they make out if the kids actually WANT to go to sea and its only for 3 months - they make it out like its forever.. Lets hope they pay them!

yeah i remember alot of these fishing Platforms while traveling in the thousand islands, indonesia. Except they were mini ones.
Those mini salted anchovies are really popular in indonesian and chinese food.
