You might even consider using origami like folds on the wings to greatly increase surface area on the downstroke - this might have a positive effect on lift carrying capacites, etc.
That's incredible how you could build that, kudos to you. Hook up a little more power and thrust and you could possible put a camera on it but it wouldn't be still enough to capture clear video or picture, but it looks like it resembles a moth.
Hi, it's a Lithium Polymer thin film battery (Lipo for short). You can purchase them from most hobby shops or you can find them in most small RC planes...
Take a look at the top Right Hand Side of the page here where it says "More Info", click on that which opens up my description of this project. A link is also there which will take you to the RCGroups website with more pictures...
but tell me...isn't a pager motor is an inappropriate choice?....aren't they too heavy compared to the power they deliver, and gets heated up very fast in case u want to increase the current?
pls correct me if i'm wrong, because i'm just a beginner in this field...
The pager motor if geared properly is an excellent choice. Most of the smaller comercial Ornithopters use a Pager Motor, like the Dragonfly and the I-Fly Vam...
I used a small 30mah lithium Polymer Cell from a small RC plane. You can follow the link at the top of the page (More info) this will take you to more pictures of my Ornithopter design.
Great work. Did you consider to increase the amount of flapping movement? And the materials, perhaps you can use another material for the wings? I somehow don't expect stable flight, but this is a good first step. Wish you had a web-page.
Looks like fun, I wonder how well it flies.

imagine flying in an ornithopter that would be amazing

should add tail and bigger wings and use angle of attack on the wings to make it fly but if u want it smaller....

any idea how fast is the flapping frequency?

do you think you may need more dihedral as well, because from the video you have an unstable "an-hedral"
Freddythethird 3 years ago
Yes i would agree with you, more dihedral is needed. This project is no longer in production, i am working on another smaller project soon.

Yeah, it will have a micro coil actuator on the tail junction with a micro Neodymium magnet for steering...

i think bigger Wings would help!

Help with what exactly?
stihl888 3 years ago
With Flying
Gatlingboy 3 years ago
Weight is the main issue...
Another way to do it is to have a pair of wings, but you need the right gearing to be able to drive the extra weight up and down.
stihl888 3 years ago
i bet if you used pieces of balsa wood for the connecting rods it would be lighter. just a thought

thanx for rplying...
i guess i'll have to try that out with a pager motor.
wat bettery did u use?
