I just realized something. In the manga, when Naruto is teaching Konohamaru Rasengan, he is in his original uniform. But in the anime, it is his Shippuuden uniform.
That's not how it happened and you know it. Ma and Pa did the real work. Their genjutsu and their 'form' (Sage Jiraiya). The best he could do was buy them time to then attack paralyzed bodies in a powered up state. That's no achievement with Ma and Pa at your side, friend.
NOTE: I should add that I had a good laugh when God Realm said he'd had enough of their shit as he impaled Pa (ending the Genjutsu threat and the bulk of interference in the duel). Naruto hardly did it all on his own either. Lucky shit just had main character armor to save him. Sasuke is more a case of being the author's favorite so his is perhaps a more potent thing still...
Jiraiya fought 3 killed them and they came back to life and then fought all 6 of them and killed 1 found out the true Pain and then died Jiraiya is Awesome

-Jiraiya lands a decent hit on Human Realm. Figures out what Hungry Ghost does. Ma alerts Jiraiya of Human Realm (capable of soul capture) coming up from behind and Pa tosses a smoke bomb as they get his back.
-While Jiraiya fails to to land further hits on the trio, Pa figures out the eye connection.
-(Pipe) Pa suggests a tactical retreat. It is also Pa who proposes he and Ma use their Genjutsu since Jiraiya's taijutsu and ninjutsu were ineffective against the trio, and Pain won't expect such a threat out of him *being unfamiliar with his teammates*
-To his credit, it was his plan that made the extra time for their 'song'. A good performance. An impale per body. Then he turns his back.
-(Disarmed) Demon Realm blows off Jiraiya's left arm. Hell Realm brings back the slain. Six paths present.
NOTE: That song was his only real chance even with Ma and Pa present when facing those three bodies. Without their help, it doesn't seem he could take even Animal realm. Forget taking out all six without such a trick.
-(Teleport) We just skip to a point where Animal Realm has stabbed Jiraiya with that special rod Pain bodies make while charging into the 'barrier trap' (gets lopped in half). Dead. Jiraiya can't control his chakra. Pa takes out the spike.
-(Corpse) The body is taken by Ma. Pa tries a sneak attack, but misses Demon Realm. Jiraiya meets all six. He is promptly annihilated as he finally deduces it to have been indeed Nagato.
-(Death) Impressively staves off death long enough to pass on what little he could
NOTE: Each body is just a tool of Nagato. As the puppet's of Sasori were. However, Jiraiya needed true backup. I don't at all see an instance where he seemed able to take on Pain. Ma and Pa? Sure. They proved to be the more fearsome force of their side in the battle. Pa especially. I don't care to see the pervert got more credit than he deserves.
Tell me. What would he have been really able to do against just Animal Realm without Ma and Pa? It seemed he knew better than to try his hand as such.
If he could achieve Senin without Ma and Pa, what could he have done against the three bodies? Without their genjutsu, there was nothing further to be done against six paths.
That wasn't a fight. It was an execution of a man who flip-flopped on the only reasonable answer (Nagato) until he died to denote just one secret of Pain (no real bodies among the six). A small, but crucial token perhaps.
This fight was never really one he could hope to win. His performance without aid didn't even seem like it would go any better than how things went for Kakashi against GOD REALM. I'm not terribly moved by high talk of his performance beyond what is noted.
~As for the fight, I've stated my case on the idea of Jiraiya being able to fight one-on-one against even Animal Realm. Or 3-vs-3 (depcited as 3-on-1 curiously enough). Nevermind the 6-on-1 some speak of (ignoring Ma and Pa *who were huge aids unlike any proper summon would have been in his case*). I just don't feel like Jiraiya did nearly as well (certainly very good) as some of his fans would like to think...

His crowning achievement in the battle was fighting death long enough to get one finding out in code which Pa had to escape with.
There was no 6-on-1 "fight" in Jiraiya vs Pain. It went from 3 to 2 to 1 when Jiraiya was no longer fighting. He was just being killed. Dying. That is all he was busy doing at this point.
NOTE: Were Naruto not saved, aid and host (not a target allowed to be killed), he would have lost plenty of time himself even with greater power-ups. Pain is not a foe to take lightly.
NOTE2: Saying 'Jiraiya is awesome' with each response isn't saying much. Some would say that Sarutobi was awesome. He's dead too. As is Pain. In this fight, I argue he was unable to do much of anything by himself against even one Pain. So he's not so much better than Kakashi when comparing 1-on-1. I've argued about how much he needed Ma and Pa to continue his fight already. At length even. Without them, he could do nothing against this foe besides bide his time or seek escape.
Everything done in Sage mode is forfeit because it is a state he himself cannot activate or maintain properly without them. He lost his state when Ma was gone. They are not achievements of Jiraiya "alone" which is key to our exchange. What did he do 'alone'? Die.
