  • Torture used is illegal. But world governments will resist as they work for major corporate owners.

  • The honesty & transparency of releasing the Torture Photos will help protect Americans and Troops. Only as long as justice is eagerly sought as well, & The War Criminals are TRIED in view of the world community.

Publicizing the photos WITHOUT seking justice, will NOT create %1. more grudges by the Victim Nations than already exists

But publicizing the photos WILL create a %1000. increase in grudges by the AMERICAN PEOPLE who will be ASHAMED ASHAMED ASHAMED ASHAMED ASHAMED ASHAMED

    _____

  • If the QUESTION is, "Was this torture illegal?", the QUESTION should remain, "Was this torture illegal?" (-not, "Was it EFFECTIVE?")

I would hope that the US stays far from the views of a madman who was the leader of another country, many years ago.

"The most cruel weapons are humane if they secure a quicker victory." -Adolph Hitler.

  • Believe if we could go back in time and ask the victims of 911 if they would preferr waterboarding to burning alive or crashing to the ground from 100's of stories up I think I know what their answer would be.

If a 'tickle machine' were available, I'm sure too that LIE/BERALS would find it harsh also. You must draw a line or even a question can be considered torture by some.

DRs and lawyers on hand for a liitle over a minute of waterboarding. It works.

  • Is Cheney a born again truth teller ! LOL

    I don't think so !

The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it.

    —John F. Kennedy

  • If there's "no proof" then there should be "no problem" in releasing the memos as Cheney requested...right?

  • The most ridiculous argument torture advocates use is the "24" ticking time-bomb scenario. They're too stupid to realize that the president has executive powers which allow him to disembowel the fictitious terrorist without breaking any laws. So bang goes that infantile argument

When the Bush cabinet signed off on torture it wasn't a terrorist's confession they were after. They wanted to send a message to the world that we'll do as we please. Kind of like the Nazis when they rolled into Poland.

  • The criminals are getting nervous, thats why they are doing the media tour. chickenhawks unite!

thanks for taking away our regress for when our soldiers get tortured you pasty bastards. how can we prosecute any other country for torturing our people now? the japanese were hung for waterboarding our people in WW2. geneva convention was a good thing, and people too chickenshit to serve ruined it.

  • I am not against torture but the way it has been used by the Bush administration is unacceptable. Many of those people were either innocent or not real suspects of anything beyond being a foot soldier.

  • Your not against it but your not in favor of how Bush used it??? How would you have tortured them???

    That's an incredibly vague comment.

Here's where I stand on what one can and can not do if we are at war.

If an opposing enemy is unabashed enough about the amount of execution, torture and cruelty they can administer, film and show to the world. Then said opposing enemy should not expect the Geneva Convention to apply to them.

  • It is not a black and white topic, if you see it as vague than that is how you view it. There are other ways to interrogate other than torture but I would not ever rule out torture all together. You cannot get emotional when there are greater things at stake.

  • listening to mealy mouthed couch fascists like brownnoice is torture enough.

  • Oh, I am sorry did I threaten your little belief system? "mealy mouthed couch fascist," you know American would suffice, and no I am not. Now do you have anything beneficial to say that is on topic or do you just like trolling?

  • DICK is really sth, he started an unreasonable war and made alot of money off US budget on his company and associates, THENshot someone in the face THEN he sits on a wheel chair SO he doesn't stand up for the new president, Mr Obama.

AND Now he is saying teqniques were effective : WHAT was the result? did it resolve ANY thing in Iraq?? and where is Osama ben chainey?forgetting humanityhow about logic and if that did n't work what else!

ps, 2012 story also is DICK's , how dicked up can it be

  • Dang your typing sucks.

  • It Doesnt matter if waterbording worked or NOT u mass criminal! We dont want to see results!

U violated the law of the land and betrayed the constitution that you sworn to defend and protect period!! you could have planted a listening device in their jail cell, and put those suspects together in it, treat them well, and just listen. I guarantee you if they had anything to do with terrorism they will start talking to each other about it!

  • communist...propganda?... disinformative?... hahahahahahahaha ..... throwing around baseless accusatory claims makes you look a tad senseless

  • i am against torture i wonder how much the twin towers people were feeling as they were dying burning falling and gasping for their last breath that must have been less then waterboarding..

  • What is it with you and the Twin Towers...

  • few ruling for many is a dictatorship. We need a government where the middle clas and the poor rule over the rich. I was just saying the truth of the present government we have.

  • Nice dream, but it is impossible. Every government oppresses, they just present it differently. Democracy is nothing but a dictatorship where the people think they have power. Thank Bismark's "real politic" for that.

  • So basically give up. I will not settle for that. The american people should fight for the constitution and not let corporatized government oppress them whether republicn is in charge or a democrat.

  • No, not give up. But first get a better understanding of how the world works. The population who live in slums and are oppressed is growing at an increased rate. It is only a mater of time until there is a class war. But all we can do is slow it down and lower the amount of bloodshed in the end. You cant have your big mac and eat it too.

  • Here are the facts:

Fact: Torture is illegal under US law. Carry a maximum of 20 years which was signed into law in 1994.'

Fact: Torture is illegal under international law; The Geneva Convention

Fact: Ronald Reagan signed the UN Convention against Torture in 1988.

These laws has been ignored by the corporate media and be justified by political pundits and ideologue. It goes to show how the media is not doing their job again. Good Job by the Real News.

  • all of these comments are lifting my spirits... to see that people are thinking beyond the protectionist and often racist views that this TORTURE was and still is an effective way to combat terrorism. Arrest all of these arogant pricks!!!! How are we to punish those who inflict torture on our uniformed men and women if we carry out these same perverse techniques ourselves? STOP torture now!

  • well what did the people who were killed by the hits on the twin towers feel,I bet they would have rathered have been waterboarded then frying to death ,jumping to death or breathing smoke fumes til they choked to death. I guess no one cared about those people who are dead BTW

  • Yeah and the government refuse to investigate 9-11 as well....if I were American...i would be furious.

  • they did investigate 9/11. so have many people. most of the hooplah about the incident can be ceased by simply doing as any other serious person has done, submit their theory of the incident to the proper channels, reputable, independent channels, for critique and testing. as far as i know, not one 'conspiracy theory' [to use the euphemism] has passed these very real bullshit tests. besides, honestly, there are more important and real government 'conspiracies' to be concerned with, but aren't.

  • Alright, lets pull out the factbook : no independent investigation has been done. Bush, Cheney would not go on record during the investigation. The (biased) investigation concluded that fire had weakened the steal structure. However, it is physically impossible for gasoline fire's to burn at an altitude that can begin to weaken steal. and the list goes

  • on and on and on. This is not about overthrowing the bush administration or sensationalism. This is about demanding a real investigation of 3000 deaths and what eventually lead to the war in Iraq. How does this happen. How are not crying out for some justice? i do not understand

  • some ppl cant handle the truth so they will deny it even when the evidence clearly points to an inside job

  • "How are not crying out for some justice?" lol.

  • yeah, I left out a word, my mistake... but i think it's ironic that that's what you think is important about what i wrote..

  • /watch?v=8_tf25lx_3o nanothermite explosives were found in the dust of WTC, no theory but a fact, this conspiracy isnt important? r u fuckin kiddin? this hoax is still bein used as a justification of genocides in the middle east, millions of innocent ppl had to die and r diein daily

  • they would have easily found another pretext for what they were going to do anyway, in regards to the middle east and elsewhere.

i'm not saying it's not a tragic event, just that worse things happen every day, all over the world, and many of those things are happening DIRECTLY because of the written and unwritten policies of especially the US government. and can be far more easily and realistically dealt with to bring about justice for all.

  • you ever hear the old adage two wrongs don't make a right???? It is wrong to torture plain and simple. If we torture what recourse do we have against those who torture our own. Being blinded by anger is no excuse...

  • Waterboarding!! Wasnt Yukio Asano subjected to a death penalty for doing the same thing in WW2?

If its not Torture then its okay to do this to Pres.Bush and Cheney!

Why dont we discuss the real issues.

The lists of video material showing sodimization of 8-14 year old children in front of their mothers and fathers.

Fathers & mothers were raped in front of the family to get them to confess to things they knew nothing about.

Memos are what you give a secretary.

    Release the videos!

  • How can you have 68k videos in less than a year. Spewing your garbage all day everyday

  • Its simple.. just waterboard rove and cheney to have them tell the truth about the waterboarding.. those cowards would be the first to squeal about torture

  • The Spanish Inquisition didn't work to free people

  • Bush, Cheney and Rove for more terms.

10-20 in Gitmo would be appropriate!

  • So the torture worked the first time and they tortured them hundreds of times after that why?

  • Rove tells us what to read then tells us what HE wants us to think it means.

  • These torture loving magots "cheney-bush" etc need to be in prison at the least .The fact of the matter is they wont see a day in prison Because of there secret oath to protect the brotherhood....

  • The torturers defenses are 1. we should look forward not back; 2. it worked. Are these defenses available to other criminals? Why not?

  • Disturbing to see how morally vile the U.S. has become. I guess this is what the beginning of the end looks like

  • We haven't done anything about GWB and

Dick(less) Cheney because we only care about

accountability when it is a Democrat

administration. Lies about torture, WMD's, and

Yellow Cake from Niger= "No big deal."

Lies about sexual indiscretions= "Oh, my god,

    investigate now!!"

  • i know all this is bad and negative, but allow me to say something positive that i noticed about all declassified material and government documents i've seen: i like how thorough they are and that they describe the TRUTH lol like that inspector general guy, he actually said that all the information obtained were not of imminent danger.

  • why don't you arrest them

    ball less

  • Dick Cheney is America's prime slime ball. Hope he goes hunting again. Maybe he'll shoot himself this time.

  • Since when does the end justifiy the means? Had there been "favorable" results, torture would be OK? Give me a break. prosecute and punish the leaders.

  • to think we thought we were more advanced. In a Monarchy Bush would've been dead already.

  • in a democracy there would be no Bush.

  • America has been ran as a democracy for far to long, that is the problem

    America is a Republic !

  • oh yeah, real democracy when 10% of US society owns 85% of the wealth.

    come on.

  • I'll take it one further. The USA is not a Democracy, we are a Republic. So only a few elected officials make the laws and enforce them as they please.

  • democracy does not really mean majority rule. That is not the scenario we have. we have a government with a two party illusion. Where the lajority of voters go votge for two parties that are controled by the fascist that own this country. That is not majority rules that is a corproate dicatorship where the rich fat cat are the dictators.

  • the united states of america has never been a democracy.

whether it is parliamentary or republican, the modern bourgeois state (created in the 1600s) is formed to establish and perpetuate the class rule of capitalist owners.

major decisions that affect the functioning of economics, production, distribution and consumption are made by and for a minority. the state in capitalism is the exclusion- not inclusion- of democratic processes.

anti-democratic neopatriots like you are repugnant and naive

  • haha bush with a crown on lol

  • It was established at the Nuremberg trials for Nazi war crimes that a defence based on following orders was no defence at all and that these people were guilty of war crimes. America is a nation that values the rule of law and has signed international agreements outlawing torture and a defence of following orders. Whoever particpated in these activities should be prosecuted to full extent of the law and the people who gave the orders should also be tried for war crimes.

  • This Country is going down the crapper QUICK!

  • Effectiveness is a distraction.Torture is illegal whether it is effective or not.

Shooting pedestrians is an effective way to prevent jaywalking, but that does not make it legal.

  • torture is terror !

  • They managed to get some bugger to admit to planning 9/11. This might have been useful for some but was plainly nonsense.

  • Bush & Cheney should be indited for war crimes.

  • Those shocked at the US using water boarding...wait till you read up on what the russian special forces were doing in chechnya hacking peoples arms off with axes, electric shock and all sorts of sick shit look it up

compared to this waterboarding sounds like a beauti-treatment a 20 year old would get down at her local salon

    timesonlineDOTcoDOTuk/tol/news/world/europe/article6168959DOTece

  • That is illegal by international crimes too. The U.S. executed Japanese for waterboarding our soldiers FOR WAR CRIMES. Why is it when WE do it it's okay? It's the oppressor mentality arrogant Americans have assumed.

  • even if obama bans it lets face the facts it will still go on unde radar. Hopefully there will be whistle blowers who tell us more

Im surprised many americans are shocked at these torture tactics the CIA have doing it for decades i thought most would know

  • Of course, they'd (Rove and Cheney) would be interviewed by Fox News. Coincidence? Doubtful.

  • Not only is it immoral but it's both Illegal and ineffective, google Matthew Alexander, former iraqi interrogator.

Torture only works if your goal is to illicit false information, which is what it was likely the idea behind this program.

  • Why are those jackboot fascists Rove, Rumsfeldt & Cheney still walking around when 'Waterboarding' is now.. and always was ILLEGAL both under US Law & International Law!

    Stop beating around the Bush(s)

  • Waterboarding, sleep deprivation, dog bites and blah blah blahs are all just smoke screens to hide the real brutality perpetrated by Uncle Sam during his so called war on terror. what about binyam's penis slicing and other prisoners sodomy claims?

  • let's see. We invaded Iraq and fucked up reconstruction, which led to a torrent of crazed terrorist attacks throughout the country. Then we told our troops to treat the Iraqis like crap and torture them so that could get intel on terrorist attacks.

Yeah, that's what I call a bad plan.

  • Whether or not the TORTURE was effective or not is irrelevant. It has been deemed to be a criminal act. America does not torture, mainly for the same reason we dont allow police to bust down your door without a warrant, take whatever they want, and hold you indefinitely. And that's all assuming torture is an effective means of gathering RELIABLE intel, which it is demonstrably shown to be INeffective. As to the claim that pelosi et al knew about it and did nothing, i say prosecute them as well.

  • I want Obama to pursue this case, but he probably won't.

If he did, he'd probably end-up like Kennedy (and I definitely don't want that to happen!)

Why do you think Ford Pardoned Nixon?

They would kill him and blame it on some obscure obsolete 19th century racist cult if he prosecuted the Bush Administration in any way for this.

They would also kill any judge that made it possible for a prosecution like this to proceed.

  • You nailed it :) He would be ducking for bullets like it the White House was southern Beirut!

  • Yeah, and they'd blame it on some imaginary redneck cult that doesn't even really exist in any significant way anymore. Then everyone would have to follow along with that idea, or else get listed as a "right-wing racist extremist", which is hillarious in a way as I am an old "hippy left-wing pinko commie fag".

Well that's what they used to call me not that long ago for having the exact same ideals I have now.

  • Hahaha! Fascists! Well, all power to you man

  • we would all be speaking german and everyone in the world would be driving our cars, hehe

  • Whats wrong with knowing some German, you people from the US need to learn more languages anyway. Just saying it, I speak three fluently.

  • Ha Ha!

Thank you for making such an amusing satirical post, lorrainegate. I thought I was looking at The Onion for a second.

Like, as if all Americans are so stupid as to think that the worst thing that might have come out of WW II had it turned out differently is that Americans might be able to actually speak German!

    Hillarious!

  • Most Americans are ethnic German anyway lmao

  • well duh. that is why they are called suicide bombers.
