Someone should point this out for the kids :) Galileo wasn't burned at the stake, he was put on house arrest for life, and it was for saying the Earth revolved around the sun. I think Mr. Burroughs was getting Galileo mixed up with Bruno. Bruno was burned at the stake for saying so, along with a few other charges.
@SetRaNuit You're right, and more to the point, Galileo was sequestered for refusing to rat out his mother. She was accused of midwifery and other "sins". His mistake was believing Thomas Aquinas was a fellow of improved cognition, and so wouldn't stoop to revisionism. Of course this failed Galileo. Xtians always revise the record, due to their social commitment to bad faith via overall control of inquiry itself. Aquinas had "an answer" that reactions would be harsh, and invested thusly.
Maybe Willy "should" have left the needle alone..
