  • Very inspirational, and just as inspirational in the documentary Finding Joe. He pretty much analyzes Joseph Campbell's hero's journey. Brilliant guy. youtube.com/watch?v=QTVKmZZN39I&feature=youtu.be

  • I love this guy!!!!!!!!

  • Lol, the talking cats video is on the side of this video!

  • The social dynamic between Ken Robinson and the interviewer (2nd half of the video) is so weird!

  • wow 0% humor.

  • The guy who is asking Ken looks like a bloody idiot :)

  • truly inspirational

  • i have been in so much pain because all the bits that i carry that are not mine. and yet i cannot get rid of them quite yet, unless i run away from home!

  • I LOVE his comments on university education at 17:20. Absolutely spot on!

  • do what you are good at , do what you love . do it for a higher purpose .

  • 10:00 bookmarking :D, also does anyone have his email I would love to write an email to him

  • there must be a Ken Robinson in every country.... this is the revolution we need...

  • And the talking cats video that he talks about is top of related. Cracked me up. I lost faith in humanity.

  • 23:30. Looks like there may be 3 Psychopaths. Talk about a bad day.

  • I wonder; do most criminals, looters, violent swine, etc. do these things because they enjoy it and are good at it? This presentation seems to indicate so.

  • Remove the bits that aren't us

  • He so eloquently describes all the reasons why I wanted to become a teacher and have a passion for education - but sadly, also the reasons why I left education rather than bang my head against the system for the rest of my life. :-(

  • You are are my greatest mentor! My grandson knew everything in kindergarten but wasn't interested in raising his hands or sharing his thoughts. Teacher recommended he was held back. Duh! If it didn't work the first time, why would we do it again? Then in the 2nd grade, a school suggested a dr who wanted to put him on Vyvanse; a form of amphetamine . Regarding prisons, prisons are Big Money! Plz revolutionize the prison system as well! lol! It is their goal to increase the inmates not decrease!

  • how can a teacher even know each of his/her pupils in that short amount of time, when teaching some 150 students a semester. Politicians who have lived in plastic bubbles and never had a public school education are non realists .. they create ridiculous legislation on standardization... look at Bush's "no child left behind" Who was the last president of the US that had his child in a public school ?

  • teachers are not to blame for the problems.. they are forced to deal with the overtaxed curriculums and forced to teach for the test. we try to differentiate and use gardner's intelligences but class sizes get bigger and bigger... how can a teacher accomodate 30 different personalities in 40 minutes??

  • hey

  • 26:30 this is funny that he thinks that the governments "don't get it" instead of being objective enough to realize that it is meant to be propaganda and teach people to fit in and keep the government running. to create slaves.

  • @muzapstar Government is a whole institution. The very 'top' of government would get it, but many down a bit lower may not. Ignorance is deeply ingrained in politics.

  • this is the reason why every great artist and so many leaders of the world fall out of school

  • Unfortunately the university old cronies in their ivory towers don't want it to change because they are sitting pretty. They (deans etc.) earn a lot of money and have a lot of power where they sit. Some HE's in the UK are a form of indoctrination and debt slaving. Either you believe in their way of thinking or you get a low grade or you get kicked out. Some HE institutes have become so narrow minded in this respect that they will do ANYTHING to resist this change.

  • Who else would like to join me in revolutionizing education?

  • @MrOnairos

What do you have in mind?

  • @saeidmomtahan The general idea is to create a new system that creates situations in which children can discover their talents and perhaps their passion. It would be non-linear, and the child can leave whenever he or she wishes, but the goal is to instill the values and have an environment where the child can grow into his or her true self, and using his or her talents and passion to contribute to society in his or her own way. Highly experimental, will likely take decades of work.

  • @saeidmomtahan But I believe that it will happen sooner or later, and if I am to be a stepping stone in creating/discovering a new and better way to educate our children, then so be it. I shall gladly leave that legacy in the hopes that I will have worked for and contributed to the highest good of all, and not just for myself.

  • @MrOnairos It's Ok if it takes decades for it to work, isn't it? I mean a formal education takes decades to work also, and sometimes in the end, it doesn't even work. I was educated as an engineer. After a year and a half gave it up and became a photographer. Now after 20 years of doing that i'm looking for the next thing to do.

I think the idea should be that the search must never stop. Whether it be for knowledge, new experiences, new skills, ideas, and ways to contribute.TNX for ur insight

  • @saeidmomtahan Yes...an education system in which schools are more of a place for discovery and of becoming our best selves rather than just cramming in knowledge of the past, and instilling positive values that last a lifetime. Schools where you learn that life isn't exactly a step by step process and that you don't necessarily have to do one career forever.

  • @MrOnairos

I agree and wish you good luck in your quest for a better future.

    With greetings from Iran

  • @saeidmomtahan Thank you! :)

  • I love this bloke - I keep passing his stuff on to our teachers.

  • hi i'm 22, currently unemployed.I have more than enough free time right now. Bored out of mind. Nothing really interests me. I -can- make electronic music, but I do not really care for doing it.

I want to find my element, but I do not know how to do this.

Anyone have any references as to how to find your element?

    Thanks.

  • It's because of you Sir Ken that I stopped working in email marketing and started university to study Equine Science at the age of 27. I could never thank you enough...

  • zero dislikes... no wonder

  • interesting...

  • over emphasis on the curriculum hurts hinders good teacher and cloaks the bad ones. :(

  • I just finished The Element! Fantastic!

  • one way that we could improve this situation is by, somehow, change the views parents have on what is good or bad, as they are the primary role model, barrier or trampoline for the children to go for what they are good at; as regardless of the teenage nature of "rebeller" i believe family is the core reason for kids to act the way they do. e.g. if my teacher told my mum I was bad at french, she should just start shouting AT ME

hope people with lower social status get to read the book as well

  • meeting other peoples expectations is the worst thing, as the people that you are pleasing will not have to live with what you HAVE to do (because them).

I love when he says that "..when you find yourself in love with something you're good at, you'll never really work again" - the fact that we have to work for a living, everyone one should seek "their element".

  • Extraordinary person. Love what he is saying :)

  • At 20:00 he says it, that the system serves massive commercial interests.

If we atomize people and judge them separately, while smothering each of them into a huge DEBT while educating them into this fraud that robs people of their lives, the BANKERS maintain control over them.

    Hello!

Is anyone on this frequency; how loud are you hearing me, please respond?

  • The Element = Natural Talent + Passion. Yeah.

I remember doing things many years ago that I was talented at but didn't really like. I coined a phrase for this, "The Tyranny of Talent", and I think Sir Ken just affirmed that it is a real thing.

  • what a book! one of the greatest books i've ever read. life changing.

    thank you sir!

  • Education system is a disaster may I say.

  • I just pre-ordered the dutch edition of the book..before watching this video actually.

  • Ken, I'd like to put it to you that to discuss the ideology of education without discussing the "C" word, how public opinion on education is formed, the allocation of resources and the political beliefs and motivations behind policy makers is largely meaningless. "Feel good" anecdotes and US style aspirational talk about "maximising individual potential" is great ,and obviously has its place, but, without the wider frame of reference, is ultimately pointless.

  • @38dragoon38 I've watched a few of Robinson's talks tonight. He's repeated some material, and I wish he would go deeper. I think that being given short time slots at a variety of conventions forces him to summarize his main points at each event. Maybe his books are more interesting.

  • “Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that

you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.”

    ...-- Plato

  • I think the interviewer at the end (29:00 ish) received some messages from the mother-ship, hence the feedback and sudden lack of attention.

  • @BrashOfKhaamph LOL. He reminds me of the Dramatic Gopher: watch?v=Ey3PbD75cjc

  • Ken Robinson has completely changed my whole thought process about massive number of things. A truly inspirational man!

    - Ben Potts, Music Student

  • His description of how education coulld work is compatible with the tenets of thezeitgeistmovement and thevenusproject. Check them out, read the FAQ's, read/watch the lectures and if it resonates join us in a movement beyond politics, poverty and war

  • @LAZBOY112 We have the stated objectives of the Tax Free Foundations on public record, National Education Administration a criminal front for Rockefeller Center sabotage & propaganda, Council of Foreign Relations and associated Royal Institute for International Affairs TREASON centers.

It is a //deliberate// destruction of education, calculated to inflict maximum damage upon the lives of humanity.

    Please watch Charlotte Iserbyt at:

    watch?v=DDyDtYy2I0M&feature=related

  • @LAZBOY112 I thoroughly agree with your point on the finnish education system, I have some very good friends that are finnish and i have found that in their own field they are masters, One such friend is a photographer(a highly skilled one at that) before he even started his degree in this country(UK) he had more skills and a larger portfolio than all of the students(and a few of the lecturers).

  • someone please explain- 38:00

"in order for it to be something which always works it wouldn't work"

  • @bex271 he's saying that NOTHING "always works." there are no blanket solutions, at least not in education. because education is so dependent on the individual teachers and individual students, it is inherently impossible to create a formula which works in all cases.
