It's embarrassing when a STATION WAGON pulls your ass outta the sand box. That's like having your step-grandma change your diapers and then beat you with a toaster after.
I was standing next to the explorer when this happened. My friend and I saw the girls in the explorer stuck at the top of the hill so we stopped. Since my truck only has a roll pan and no hitch I made a call to my other buddy out cruising the dunes that day. He happened to be in his subaru lol.
this is my truck that is stuck on top of the hill...and i am here to defend myself...We like to sit on top of the hills and watch all the other people...that is what we were doing...the wind was blowing and it blew all the sand out of the underneath the tires and the only thing i needed was a little tug to get some earth back underneath my tires and i was good to go...if he would have keep taping you would see that i made it over the hill...
It should have just continued reversing and pushed his Explorer ass over the hill. Subarus with manual transmissions are unstoppable if they have any clearance. Automatics aren't as capable.
As much as I hate to admit this, the newer automaic Subarus (3rd generation Legacy) have a more advanced, active AWD.
If equipped with VDC, there is no need for a limited-slip differential as the VDC automatically utilizes the brakes simulating the effect of a limited slip differential, improving traction.
However, I much prefer a manual transmission and I'm fine with the full-time Symmetrical AWD
@jlsparky7 So true there. A locker could come in handy sometimes though. I had nearly 2.5 tonne in my little Forester and still owned on the beach. Have also pulled a few 'real 4WDs' out too. Just a good set of tyres and your set with a subie :D
Its got to be said; Ford Explorer's are really shit on/off road they are just bollox, with what ive heard, a cruise control with a mind of its own too, causing many accidents some fatal too. Subaru ? excellent.......
Subaru's standard (to all vehicles) symmetrical all wheel drive, superior traction control, suspension, low center of gravity and rally proven boxer engine is why it could pull it out, not just because it was on a slope. Give credit where credit is due.
Subaru is one of the best built off road vehicles on the market. Ford makes a great rally Focus too, but it's not all Ford engineering responsible for what success it has had. Subaru Outback (car) outperformed the Explorer in 42 of 46 categories
there was enough people there to just push it back?

hahhaha you guys do realize that any vehicle could have pulled it out because of the hill slope. honestly a 4wheeler could have pulled it out

LOL @ the Subaru having to snatch it to get it out. A stiff breeze would have blown that thing out.

Subarus have the most badass AWD system ever made. Most subarus are better offroad than fullsized trucks.

It sucks when you get yours stuck on the beach twice and have to leave it over night lol
