  • daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmmnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • For an instant I was tempted to press the 'dislike' button, only because this piece is so short. I get lost in this melody in a way that makes me want it never to end.

  • Where's the end !?

  • It's over! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo! :(

  • Love it! I think that those three people who disliked it has brain damage!

  • Love it!

  • Worst part... Cut off'd ending.... Beautiful playing. <3

  • I saw Savalll with Hesperion XX in Hong kong many years ago. It is nice to see him playing here with his kids and that they enjoy playing the same music. And by the way, a very nice rendition of the piece.

  • Gamben-Gott. Ein absolut sympatisch Maestro. Der legitime Harnoncourt-Weitermacher! Toll auch die Ergebnisse über Musik der Indianer, Japaner, Kreuzzüge ......... Das sind Heros!

  • You can hear everything with beautiful phrasing and tone quality, and it isn't just because its well miked. Savall is a master musician.

  • Que hermosa interpretacion!!! such a beautiful performance!!! I love it!!!

  • Jordi Savall's Jordi Savall, for goodness's sake! There are simply no imitations.

  • Wonderful!

  • I don't think I'll be able to come any closer to his tempo.... one of the greatest viol players ever!

  • Sublime. Thank you.

  • que musica tan hermosa

  • just lovely!!

  • It's so beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Masters. Pure genius in interpretation and performance.

  • pure delight

  • But the three interpreters are...

  • catalan power???Diego Ortiz wasnt catalan he was from Toledo Castilla la Mancha.nice try though.

  • robertdegiro: Ortiz wasnt but Savall is.

  • isn´t it gaspar sanz´s ricercare

  • un gustazo

  • CATALAN POWER!!!!! please post more!!!! LOVE TO YALL!!!! ADRIANA TE ADORO!!!!!!!! Freddy Ramos!

  • Savall living the dream... Good music, musician children to share it with :)

  • Lovely. Thanks so much, Davidon. This is the nearest I will ever get to seeing Jordi Savall playing. :-)

  • qué envidia...

  • Pare y fills, molt entranyable ^^

  • LOL!!!!111

  • This piece is simpy the most touching melody ever.

  • does any one know is there is any footage of him doing the le manuscrit du roi?

  • Jordi Savall is absolutely the God of Early Western European Music. Period.

  • Jordi Savall is so amazing!!

Just read on the website alia-vox that he gives 140 concerts per year, releases 6 cd per year and have recorded over 160 cd:s!!

He is incredible and his music is so wonderful and great!

    He is the bomb!

  • I usually meet their music on radio. :) So beautiful and talented family! Old Savall must be very pride of his son and doughter... :)

  • Wunderschöne Musik! Wohlklingende Instrumente, besonders die Theorbe!

  • Beautiful! That is exactly the sort of sound that made me take up the gamba! Thank you.

  • gold

  • its a chitarrone not a theorbe

  • No that is a theorbe. A chitarone looks like a mix between the guitar and the ukelele.

  • You are both right. Theorbo and Chitarrone are synonyms. I've only heard them called chitarroni in Europe, however. Perhaps it's just a difference in word choice. I played a chitarrone in Leipzig last year, and it looked absolutely nothing like either the guitar or the ukelele.

  • Oh, sorry, I mean't chitarra.

  • Okay, I think I need some clarification here. The instrument in the video is a theorbo, (tiorba) or a archlute (arciliuto?), or a chitaronne (related to the chitarra italiana). So then what is the name for the Baroque guitar?

  • Guitara.

  • 'Chitarra espanogle'. This is what French, English, Italians were calling the guitar during the baroque, once it became popular in the 1600s, esp. after Corbetta.

  • To be accurate, I would use 'Chitarrone' to describe an italian instrument, theorbo or theorbe for a french deign. Of course theorbo is the english approximation of theorbe, used because french theorbe were more common in England than Italian Chitarrone.

  • And of course in England the 'large lute' was of the Archlute (in my view nearer the Chitarrone than the Theorbo...)

  • Crappy video, good sound: but why go, stupidly, behind the wrought-iron gate and hide the musicians? And we're missing seeing Jordi playing some of the most complex passages while the lens is on the harp and theorbo: and we're not even seeing their fingers at work! And what's with the chop-off? I'm sure all the viewers and listeners would love to hear the proper ending, with concomitant reverb, and a couple of seconds at at the end!

  • It's a beautiful video. Why quibble?

  • Coitus interruptus!

  • awe inspiring...love him them and the music

  • his son is a very good singer but i can't find a vid of him :S

  • he is incredible..is gourgeous..how he plays

  • how can Savall make it sound so easy, sooo harmonious, soooo natural ?? talent and knowledge , I suppose! I agree with peymania about the viola di gamba (although i would be able to sell my soul (almost!!) to be able to play the cello (even as a good amateur). I think the other 2 musicians are doing a great job , too.

  • Why does it break off so abruptly? I was enjoying this...

  • fantastico...

  • Great Savall!!!!

    I have this piece....wonderfull!

  • Great Savall!!!!

    I have this piece....wonderfull!

  • familia extraordinária bem aja

  • Picture the warm breeze of peace. I lie with my eyes closed, my angel beside me. we have many cats around us. They are pleased nad purring...

  • Why listen to Ravi Shankar(and I do like him!) when we have Savall!

  • Different music, different style. Let's be happy they BOTH exist :-)

  • The Viola da Gamba, when played by Savall is by the Far the Loveliest Instrument Ever. I love the Cello as well, but something about the Viola da Gamba is just Magical!

  • Wow! Thanks. I am currently working on trying to play several of the recercadas. They were written 1553 for the bass viola da gamba. Its very difficult to make them seem like improvisations.

  • I love Savall's music and his interpretation of Renessaince music. He is really good. But the most I like is his playing in Tous les matins du monde soundtrack where he plays Marais pieces the best.

  • WOW This is really good Barouqe!!!

  • This isn't Baroque, it's Renaissance.

  • The instruments are very late renaissance at the earliest, bowed instruments like the Viols came around in the later 1500's

  • The instrument he is playing is a Baroque viol, but the music they're playing was written in the 16C.

  • yup :D

  • baroque music spans about 150 years (1600-1750). Ortiz only lived from 1510-1570. Renaissance spanned from about 1400 to 1600.

  • This is a beautiful video, thanks for posting.

I have never seen Ferran play.

  • what is that intrument?

  • It's called a viola da gamba.

  • Its a near extinct Baroque instrument that only a few people know how to play well!

  • I love this piece! If anyone knows of a cd where this is on (only with the savalls) please let me know?

  • Savall has recorded both recercadas so many times. I think the ones included in this video can be found in "Ostinato" and "Du temps et de l'instant", but I recommend "Recercadas del Trattado de Glosas" which contains the whole set (27) of recercadas (1990 version -to be reedited this year by Aliavox instead of Astrée- is far better than 1970's. )

    Medieval(dot)org references: hpv7, pnu390, avo9820, avo9841.

  • Scripturus, thanks. I will take a look.

  • Scripturus, thanks to your help I've been able to look specifically for one CD, namely: Recercadas del Trattado de Glosas

However it seems to be sold out everywhere!!??? ARRGHH x_x I want it!!!!

Can anything be done? Can it be downloaded instead?

  • Byf43, I better send you a pm.

    Milka

  • I love this!

  • that's wonderful! what a great example, it's only a pity it ends so abrupt.

  • Yes. Check out the Kuijken one, playing Marais.

  • thanks for the indication, that's the way it ought to be. (but anyhow my interpretations are legally put on Youtube)
