@dickideal Are you looking for one mood for a life with only one speed, one flavor, one color, etc.? Try out "Dear Catastrophe Waitress" for variety. Some people are applying irony and complicated lyrics to mid-60's pop (Lulu, for example?). Isn't it possible to like Belle and Sebastian AND Blue Oyster Cult (and Bela Bartok)? It works for me. Try out a newer album of theirs or go throw your grumpy rocks somewhere else. This is a groove: love it or leave it.

CHE, You can't go very much wrong with Belle and Sebastian... All of their albums are real jewels...

However, if you insist on recommendation, I'd say start with 'If you're feeling sinister' or 'Dear catastrophe waitress' ...

The first one is widely considered as their ultimate masterpiece and the other is just my personal preference and my favorite, mainly due to lyrical complexity of it (check out I'm a cuckoo).
