I can relate to that. I've been bored with oversentimental versions, Maybe I need to listen to a lot more. I'd agree that the organ accompaniment is a bit over the top. Not sure why they say it is old French. The French got it from Trebizond I'd have thought.
@Marlowann - No, the organist is fine. It's an older instrument whose mechanical key-action is sometimes audible. The soft and often vague harmonies of the accompaniment are the arranger's doing, and I feel they lend a magnificent air of mystery.

Beautiful voices, but it seems that the organist in the background either needs to get a new organ or doesn't know what he's doing.
