Dude great video, I love pocket watches. I'm looking at a Charles-Hubert with a hunters case. Great video. Love rapport of London they remind me of Sherlock Holmes. And polyban.... Lay off. The video is camera is fine.
I have a question. The Rapport watch is really amazing, mainly because the hole for seeing the innards of the watch is way bigger. This has a small flaw: this gives less space for the roman numerals, and at the very edges, the view of the roman numerals is obscured because of the angle of the glass. Is that a bad thing? Because I want to invest in this watch, I would pay the money if this can be my watch to use for the rest of my life.
@wnsbug The only problem I have with the Rapport is the fact it has no seconds hand. The dial might look a bit obscured but it doesnt really affect the watches overall elegance or ability to manage time :). The Rapport is a fine piece and comes with my highest reccomendation!
@TeHGoodReverend mm true some people might prefer having the seconds hand... but I personally prefer not having it so i can focus more on the mechanisms :D
Also, do you think an engraving would look ok on a plain case like this one? I sorta wanted to get the Royal London 90005-02 and getting my initials engraved on the shield design in the middle, but a plain case just.. doesn't seem right for engraving, although I do want to personalize it... oh the dilemma..
@wnsbug You can always go to Pocketwatchsite and look at some other manufacturers/watch designs. I recently picked up a nice Swiss Bernex watch that is Swiss made! The Rapport is nice though because it looks like a Bernex $900 watch! As fae as engraving is concerned...I tend to agree with you, although you could engrave on the inside of the case!
@TeHGoodReverend I'm leaning towards the Rapport, simply because it uses better movement material, I'm sure the Royal London that I want is good and looks really nice but the material isn't as good and the dial is broader (doesnt look as sexy). And I'm hoping the Rapport can last me a whole lifetime, hopefully it can!
What do you think would be a better investment? I know a site where I can get Rapport for a little over $300, and the Royal London for $110. (converted from british pounds) :)
@wnsbug If you have the money buy the Rapport, I've had it for 3 years now and have used it quite extensively and its chrome finish hasnt worn down, and it works great! The Rapport uses a clone of the ETA 6497 Skeleton movement which on Swiss watches can be as high as $900-1100 :(. Ive been into watches for a good while and have never heard of the Royal London watch...looks Chinesr-made imo.
Good luck and yes the Rapport is mechanical so it will last forever :D. Just wind it!
It sounds like the auto-focus on the camcorder constantly re-adjusting. My old Sony HandyCam did that. When there is plenty of noise the built-in mic wont pick it up. But in a quiet room, with someone speaking softly...
Maybe next time, the Auto-Focus should be turned off.
I enjoyed your video, cherish your new collection of pocket watches. I'm thinking of purchasing a Charles Hubert Mechanical 3859. How are they doing so far? Your collection reminds me of a short cutscene from "Time Machine" (2002). Near the beginning, a collection of pocket watches were shown.
@SheetMusicToLife Anything Charles Hubert is nice. That particular watch is more or less the same as my Desperado(in looks and movement) although the gold might wear down quicker. All of my watches are doing fine, and anything made by Charles Hubert, Desperado or Rapport are all excellent buys!
They are some nice watches, thanks for sharing. While I liked all 3 (and I have a Hubert and a Desperado) I actually expected more from the Rapport. From your video, the hands looked a bit difficult to read with the scrollwork.
One final thing, you should not snap the case closed with one hand. You should always drepress the crown when closing the cover. Too much snapping can bend the internal clip resulting in a cover that won't stay closed.
Thanks for the video, helped me buy the third model.
According to Rapport the movements are manufactured in Germany and assembled in England.
I believe it is more expensive because it has better quality.
Movements from this source are called ebauche and it was common practice also in the manufacturers of the past. Even at the beginning of famous manufacturers such as Omega.
You can buy directly from Rapport. Search for Rapport of london.
@EdmondDantes1934 Oh that one looks like my Desperado watch xD. And to answer your question, I am currently trying to upload a video about my newest watch, but sadly I havent the time :(.
@TeHGoodReverend Is the Hubert like the rapport. Where both the front and back open or is the Hubert a srew down case? By the way. Nice video. I was going to sercribe to ur page but saw a bunch of ninja stuff and decided not to. U should make videos or a new channel just for watches. ;)
No the Charles Hubert does not open in the back. I do however have a Charles Hubert that is a double case watch. I can make a video in a few days if you like :P.
Maybe I'll make a new channel and dedicate it to watches :3.
The Last one is my favorite, very beautiful design, and it opens to reveal the inner workings?! Saves me from taking it apart to look at it's design, and forgetting how to put it back together. Just the price, not so nice.

and when Im talking about the flaw, i only mean the obscured view, not the "too little space for the roman numerals." I actually like this :)

really pretty watches, the 3rd one is the most exciting. what's an average price for a pocket watch?
FatGuyWithAKatana 1 year ago
@FatGuyWithAKatana It really depends on the maker, and the parts used.
For example the first two watches I showed are about $83 each, while the third one(the one you like) was $469.
I reccomend checking out pocketwatchsite(dot)com for a good idea, and don't even bother checking out the swiss made watches they are $1000+.
