I watched a documentary somewhere, that stated that it was something like 5% (or some VERY small number) of the soldiers in the Nazi regime that knew what they were doing. volksdeutsch00 are you a ball job or did you not watch the series. These men weren't all "conscripts." Many of them felt the calling and enlisted on their own initially. In addition, even the ones that were drafted volunteered for airborne training. The advanced training they received therefore makes them more then mere conscripts.

volksdeutsch00 they were not conscripts they were volunteers who were highly trained and some of the top American troops of the war, that is why they were dropped behind enemy lines and isolated. Not trying to glorify them just making a point and also this movie is based on actual events. and also the Germans serving on the Western Front were mostly soldiers from defeated nations serving under German officers

think about it most of those soldiers were late teens thinking about glory and medals but when the time arose that they were to be soldiers they froze because they weren't old enoughor ready for a fight

yes, so was saving private ryan the only part of that movie that was real was the fact that it took place during world war 2 and a lot of the historic battles took place. Tom hanks and matt dameon's chracter never existed during those battles though. So yeah Band of brothers is based on a true story but only cuz it was about world war 2

The Airborne's entirety includes soldiers from all over the country that were highly trained soldiers meant to take on forces much larger than themselves. In fact the 101st Airborne Defeated the ENTIRE German army at bastogne with only 10,000 soldiers the Screaming Eagles Destroyed a German army 17 times that size which had tanks and artillery support, but the Airborne Clung on.

I hate to be argumentative, but in fact the 101st Airborne Division was composed of highly trained volunteer soldiers, not conscripts. Additionally, they were trained specifically to engage much larger forces (in this case a company of SS with Polish support)
