dude! you can't short out old car's electrical stuff with water! they don't have computers and stuff like new cars. it could get wet, and not run perfect till it drys out in a few minutes (which did happen) but thats it!
man, you can suck water in, and hydrolock the engine, then take the plugs out, and crank the water out, put them back in, and the thing is fine! we know these things, we've done them. but it would have had to be 2 or 3 feet deeper of water for that... so... yeah.
AS that may be, it dosent matter, it was still a good car and i still think it was a wate of a perfectly good car, if your going to do this to a car wait until its litarly falling apart and draging almost everything on the ground, and even then dont do it to a classic Mopar!!
these were Chryslers economy cars from the 70's. they were made to be used. hard tough, and often. they were not made to be careful.
BUT, that doesn't matter either. The car in the video, this 1973 dart swinger, 318, automatic, was exactly the same car when it came out of the water, as when it went in. and that was the only way this was all going to go down. There isn't ANY reason it would hurt the car, AND, it didn't. Not a waste, because nothing happened.
You probably payed a few hundred dollars for this and if you restored it you couldve got up to $10,000, but i guess runnning it through a water hole would be funner eh?

I still have both of my 65 darts, but i gave my 64 to my friend drew, and sold this 73 to this guy for the 230 bucks i bought it for. he was pretty happy with it. yeah, the 65, 3 speed manual on the column, with the 225 Slant 6 engine, convertable... is my favorite by far. awesome dart.

yeah, it matters how you go through it. if it had alot of deep ruts, you could go really fast at an angle, and you're momentum will carry you over the ruts, tires off the ground and all, then forward to where your tires get some traction. i've done it alot with cars, made it over some very crazy ruts and stuff. and gotten stuck many times! but if the ruts were in a long straight line, as long as that, and i went straight into them, then yep, i'd be stuck.
any serious ones would have parked the thing for sure. the bottom of that was actually solid as shit, so i really could have just idled though it, but the speed was alot more fun! there were pretty big holes in the floor, so maybe thats why i wanted to get through it fast. if i would have started to get stuck, i would have given it to it though! and then we would have walked to a pay phone and thought of someone to call...

it didn't need a new life, it had one of its own. i'm not into the idea of taking a car, and restoring it to what it was coming out of the factory. i guess its cool that some people do that, but like probably most of the people who've owned these cars since they came out, i like to have fun with them, and enjoy them as they are, for what they can do. its the greatest thing ever. trying to make, and maintain showroom quality is a savage waste of a car. especially one with so much potential.

Yeah, these vehicles rock. it has points, not electronic ignition, so that probably helped in the water. being sealed in the distributor cap like that. not just on the firewall. i have some other vids of crossing creeks at high speeds with the thing! fun stuff! i do have to say though, old american vehicles rock, but so do old japanese vehicles as well! they can seriously off road with the best of them. toyotas and nissans especially! mercedes might be the best off roading car.

I love how everybody thinks it's such a crime to take a Dart through a puddle, but the Dukes of Hazzard were allowed to jump over and into buildings and tear up dirt roads without too many people seeming upset. The '74 Dart was my first car. I sold it in'90 and I wish I had it now. I currently have a '65 Valiant. These cars are made to be driven, the most reliable cars in history, period. I'm not much of a mopar fan !! only a few an that happen's to be one, the dart ..If the car is in decent shape why do that to it ? I could see a 4 door !! my buddy back in the day had one of those stock 318 with sun roof factory ..it's a shame to waste it ..my very 1st car was a 72 olds cutlass bone stock 350 400 turbo tranny an I beat the shit out of it ..look up the market for it now I paid $475 buck's for it in 1987. an by the way go get a ricer an beat it there more fun to wreck :)

I got it for $1000 (that counts me registering it). Paint is very decent on it. Has a stock 318, 904 trans. no rust. I have a video of it posted on my account if you want to check it out. I also Have a '71 plymouth duster with a 225 slant six.

dude! you can't short out old car's electrical stuff with water! they don't have computers and stuff like new cars. it could get wet, and not run perfect till it drys out in a few minutes (which did happen) but thats it!
man, you can suck water in, and hydrolock the engine, then take the plugs out, and crank the water out, put them back in, and the thing is fine! we know these things, we've done them. but it would have had to be 2 or 3 feet deeper of water for that... so... yeah.

yeah, it does matter.
these were Chryslers economy cars from the 70's. they were made to be used. hard tough, and often. they were not made to be careful.
BUT, that doesn't matter either. The car in the video, this 1973 dart swinger, 318, automatic, was exactly the same car when it came out of the water, as when it went in. and that was the only way this was all going to go down. There isn't ANY reason it would hurt the car, AND, it didn't. Not a waste, because nothing happened.

Restoring cars is a horrible thing... and i really hate that people do that to these awesome cars. then they are llightly driven every great once in a while, and then parked for a long time again... its a very sad thing for these awesome cars. they are fine the way they are. don't need to be restored.
i got it for 230 bucks on ebay. and i sold if for 230 bucks a few years later. the dude who bought it was very happy! :)

hahah, yeah, there is alot of stupid wasteing with muscle cars. but this isn't a muscle car. at all. it was dodge's economy car at the time! just their small, low fuel consumption car. smallest v8, with a 2bbl carb. probably 150 hp or something tiny. it really was the compact car from chrysler. and we really wern't killing it at all here. it wouldn't kill a VW either. we've had 4 or 5 over the years... and done some testing with them. they can take it.

I still have both of my 65 darts, but i gave my 64 to my friend drew, and sold this 73 to this guy for the 230 bucks i bought it for. he was pretty happy with it. yeah, the 65, 3 speed manual on the column, with the 225 Slant 6 engine, convertable... is my favorite by far. awesome dart.

yeah, it matters how you go through it. if it had alot of deep ruts, you could go really fast at an angle, and you're momentum will carry you over the ruts, tires off the ground and all, then forward to where your tires get some traction. i've done it alot with cars, made it over some very crazy ruts and stuff. and gotten stuck many times! but if the ruts were in a long straight line, as long as that, and i went straight into them, then yep, i'd be stuck.

any serious ones would have parked the thing for sure. the bottom of that was actually solid as shit, so i really could have just idled though it, but the speed was alot more fun! there were pretty big holes in the floor, so maybe thats why i wanted to get through it fast. if i would have started to get stuck, i would have given it to it though! and then we would have walked to a pay phone and thought of someone to call...

it didn't need a new life, it had one of its own. i'm not into the idea of taking a car, and restoring it to what it was coming out of the factory. i guess its cool that some people do that, but like probably most of the people who've owned these cars since they came out, i like to have fun with them, and enjoy them as they are, for what they can do. its the greatest thing ever. trying to make, and maintain showroom quality is a savage waste of a car. especially one with so much potential.

Yeah, these vehicles rock. it has points, not electronic ignition, so that probably helped in the water. being sealed in the distributor cap like that. not just on the firewall. i have some other vids of crossing creeks at high speeds with the thing! fun stuff! i do have to say though, old american vehicles rock, but so do old japanese vehicles as well! they can seriously off road with the best of them. toyotas and nissans especially! mercedes might be the best off roading car.

Those were '68-'70 Chargers, this is a '73 Dart! Relax, it can handle it. I've done way worse in my '63 Plymouth Savoy, such as cutting through a feild to avoid a fallen tree. It was no problem for the old girl.

I'm surprised you didn't get stuck. I guess a dart off-roads better than I thought. Those old mopars are tough as hell. I had a '73 duster with a 225-6. It was a damn good car and I had some fun times with it. It would do a nice burnout for only having a slant 6. I never took mine off-roading,I never thought about trying that with it. Now I see a lot of fun that I missed out on.

Its a fucking 73 Dart. Now if it had a Hemi or was a Cuda, Challenger or Charger..then Id get pissed that he was driving it like that but the truth is, its a 73 Dart, there not the most desireable cars in the world and theres tons out there so go to hell d10193. And tommartyn, good video.

thanks man. it was a fun driving through there, even though i didn't know for sure how muddy the bottom of that was, so i wasn't positive it would make it. we were pretty far away from people who could pull us out if nessicary. probably made it more fun though.

The '74 Dart was my first car. I sold it in'90 and I wish I had it now. I currently have a '65 Valiant. These cars are made to be driven, the most reliable cars in history, period. Thanks for posting this great clip of what the trusty, loyal Dart will do for you, even if it was a little painful to watch!

Then what the hell are they made for? back in the 60's, dart's were the cheapest models, made to be used by ANYONE. I own a 68 gt and it's never been in a garage for all i know, it's been used in off-road rally, and is driving on dirt roads. I own it now, and i'm proud to have it unrestored! It may be a few dents and the paintworks becoming pretty old, BUT IT RUNS.

The old car and driver tests used to jump them and take them off road. The dart is equivielent to today's kight trucks, and driving it through a mud puddle is not going to hurt a thing. Furthermore, it is not your car, and you calling this guy an asshole just becuase you don't have the balls to use an old car like it was inteneded, or designed to handle is flat stupid.
