dude.....its all about the money, using google voice is just a way to get around the normal billing system, if you use someones network, you have to pay. the network doesnt maintain and expand itself. telco equipment cost money, the people who make this happen get paid..., you cant get something for nothing
@hispeedpony We already pay for the networks for our data usage and DSL etc.. ATT always wants a 2nd bite at the apple or wants to double dip or double charge its customers... If I pay for DSL via Ma bell I sure and the hell better be able to use skype and google voice if I like..
Check the Washington Post article today. I guess apple and google sent letters to the FCC about this voice app and they totally dont match up lol. So google says they might post a screenshot of the real rejection for the FCC and world to see.
I really dont care whos right or who wins. I just love seeing huge businesses act like immature children. Like WMG music on youtube. The FCC should say, "grow up you bunch of overpaid, underworked morons". lol.
i think the grounds for dismissal were nit picky. I have the google voice app for the g1. It changes nothing as far as the user interface. I just think its a great app.
To Be Honest : Who the fuck gives two shits if apple declined the google voice app, they are the maker of the damn phone they can do what they please, they could ban all apps, they could make every app $50 and what can do you ? Not a god damn thing except not buy there shit. I have nothing against either party but if apple wants to deny an app they have every right to even if there is not reason for it.
Having the second biggest wireless carrier as their partner. Thank your Iphone for having wi-fi capabilities, because if Apple went to Verizon, this wouldn't be possible.
Yea, very valid points. The naivette inside me tho asks why Apple doesn't just make the hardware for other phone service providers to use, kind of like how Blackberry is available for many different phone services?
It was Apple's first entry into the phone market. It's better to make a smaller loss if their product had failed. But since it didn't and their contract with AT&T is soon to be over, expect the Iphone to have multiple carriers soon.
yes it does, the iphone not allowing google to do anything doesnt prevent them from making their own product.
your misunderstanding because you forget that the iphone is just another phone. and as such it can do whatever it wants. im sorry the FCC has no stance, and if u take a look apple has already said that to them and theyve backed off alot
I'd agree that the FCC has nothing to do with this, and I'm not entirely sure why they're involved. My way of thinking is, imagine if Microsoft prevented Mozilla Firefox from being installed on their operating system. The European Union would be on their ass so fast it would make their heads spin! I suppose I don't really see the difference. Also, for the record, AT&T would be losing money because it's a lower priced product with greater functionality, and that's just capitalism at work.
OK why would you want to use google voice when you have a phone? I guess because it will not count toward your mins of use? If that is the reason, I don't blame AT&T. They have to stay in business too.
Apple & AT&T is playing the blaming game. In regards to Google Voice, I heard that Google is going to make it a web app that anyone can use with a browser.
not really, because it is possible that Apple just tried to make sure that At&T was still covered and helping protect them...also since Google was remaining quiet about it, it makes me think that they mustve understood the reason for it or something otherwise they probably would've taken it further

psssh , at&t is loosing money, bottem line.
FCC has no right/ case. aple is a private company and can refuse any app for any reason, check the EULA.
google needs to sit down, and take it. get over it.
nothing will happen , people will forget about it.
RileysWill 2 years ago
The EULA doesn't override State and Federal laws against anti-competitive practices, though.

cant apple do what ever they want? its a private owned company and can decide what is on their service and what is not?

1) Apple is a publicly traded company
2) Businesses in America are regulated, so no you can't do "whatever you want"

I think a good phrase for describing AT&T's position is "passing the buck" to Apple. Avoiding controversy by abstaining from the discussion.
