Howie (1962) starring Paul Lynde-Part 1

This episode was almost identical to the PL shows first episode. I thought it was pretty good, better than some of the stuff that lasted. Another one that deserved a much longer run was The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (GAMM). It was cleverly written and had a great cast. They were generally quicker to cancel them back from what I've read.

@toddcharry I looove GAMM, as you can tell from the other vids on my channel :) Would've loved to have seen it get 1 or 2 more years more to develop. As for the 70s Paul Lynde Show, Paul hated working on it because he ended up rewriting all the scripts to be funny. The real big on-screen failing of that series that I could see was that he had no chemistry with the family members, except for Pamelyn Ferdin.

@ShiksaWithChutzpah1 Yeah I do agree with you about the chemistry between he and the rest of the cast. I thought John Calvin and Pam Ferdin were fine, the wife and older daughter were kinda blah. It might have been funny if T.R.'s character would have been expanded and been more like James Gregory's Inspector Luger character. Can't you see him trying to talk to Howie. haha,

What year was this supposed to run? I find it hard to believe that CBS considered cancelling "The Dick Van Dyke Show" for ANYTHING.

@zaius316 1962. Amazingly, Dick Van Dyke's show did poorly in the ratings the first year. I don't think it even cracked the top 30. Back before cable, when there were only 3 or 4 major networks that was a big deal.

Oct 1962 to April 63 DVD was 9th, Oct 1963 to April-64 DVD placed 3rd, Oct 64 to April -65, 7th and Oct 65 to April 66, it was 16th. It was not rated in the top 25 between Oct 61 to April 62.
